Unlike the leaders of the Blue Army which are just a group of lowly Sergeants, Komanda was chosen by Kylia to become the General of the Kylian Air Force(KAF).
Komanda, who was pretty smart, knew that he was given this position not because he was better than those quarrelsome Sergeants but because Kylia was afraid that the strength of the Blue Army would just absorb the newly founded KAF back into its ranks, destroying all progress of making a truly specialized force for gaining air superiority.
Even now, under the rigorous investment of the Kylian government, the KAF Is still a lot poorer than the Blue Army both in Quality and Quantity.
With only 13 soldiers in total, or a little bit more than a single flight of men(the Air Force version of a squad unit), the KAF can be described as barely adequate for patrolling the skies over the State of Kylia.
That morning Komanda was patrolling the skies over the North of Kylia City. Snow on top of the leaves of evergreen trees had now fully melted off, leaving the ground easier to see through than before. This did not mean that spring was in full effect though, as much of the snow on the ground still refused to melt as it was still too cold to do so.
The sun was dazzling, making him involuntarily narrowed his eyes and looked away. But soon, he looked down the east horizon again in surprise.
"Hey! Hey! Over there!" While waving his hands to a certain direction, Komanda shouted toward his wingman."Monsters! Bokoblins! Many Bokoblins!"
“Flying back! Monsters are attacking!" The wingman rubbed his eyes and looked in the direction of the horde. “There's at least two hundred of those red buggers! We should report back to base!”
“Warn the Blue Army!” Komanda, looking worried, ordered his subordinate.”I'll start mobilizing the Kylian Air Force!”
“Yes Sir!”Komanda’s wingman responded diligently and began to turn back toward the capital.
…
A day later, in Front of the advancing monster army, Kylia mobilized the Blue Army to prepare fortifications for a great battle.
The Kylian flag fluttered in the wind as the Kylian artillery squad finished setting up the cannon on top of a nearby ridge.
Kylian infantrymen rigorously checked their equipment one last time for faults and began to assemble a single row of 20 troops, parallel to the hillside.
For the average Kylian Soldier who serves in the Blue Army, equipment is a matter of survival, especially during the harsh Kylian winter. Even something as simple as a winter coat can make the difference between life and death if it fails to function properly at the wrong time.
For this reason Kylian Soldiers have developed a strong tendency to become attached to equipment they like, and to modify or discard equipment they find unreliable or useless.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Among the Infantrymen, who have to carry their equipment wherever they go, this tendency is even stronger. Soldiers must carry everything they need for combat operations with them at all times.
All Kylian soldiers in the Blue Army are equipped with at least a pair of gray woolen mittens, a gray woolen coat, a pair of gray woolen pants, a blue sheepskin cloak, a pair of long leather boots, a sword, a backpack full of provisions, and a black sheepskin hat with a blue sideward K on the front.
Most of these clothes were padded with steel plating in order to increase close range combat effectiveness in emergency situations.
Kylian Infantrymen were equipped with the HV15 Rifles, wore a belt set with six ammo pouches, a sword and a bayonet.
Each ammo pouch was filled to the brim with 10 8mm rounds. A Kylian Infantryman carried enough ammunition to fire about 60 rounds into battle before needing to restock with more ammo from an ammo depot.
Kylia, riding a war horse, looked onward at the advancing monster army several thousand meters in front of them. Even when mobilizing both the Blue Army and Kylian Air Force, the Kylian Armed Forces were still outnumbered by monster armies 7 to 20.
Of course there's Kylia who can now easily slaughter half of these monsters with ease, however Kylia can not do everything thing for the Kylian Armed forces, eventually the State of Kylia needs to learn to protect itself without relying on the crushing power of Valors if it wants to become a great power like Hyrule.
At most Kylia will step in if any Kylian troops get their lives in danger, after all population is still too tight and Kylia can not afford the deaths of many soon to be experienced soldiers.
The monster army was now 300 meters out, too far away for the bokoblin bows to reach the Kylian positions, but more than close enough for the Blue Army to rain hell on the monsters.
“Hold steady…Ready! Fire!” Kylia roared as one cannon plus twenty rifles fired down range at the bokoblins.
“BOOM!“ A cannonball smashed right through 10 bokoblins before exploding, killing 10 more that were too tightly packed together to escape.
“BAM! BAM! BAM!” Many Bokoblins that had escaped from the first volley of artillery were slaughtered ruthlessly by the competent Kylian Infantrymen.
“BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” Kylian Lavovy Air Men in the skies dropped grenades onto the heads of the enemy bokoblins, killing many more.
The bokoblins could not get even close the Kylian positions, blood dyed snow covered the entire battlefield downrange of the Kylian positions, a bokoblin lying around that was not quite dead yet, tried looking over at what it considered the reincarnate of death, only for it to be stabbed back down by a Kylian bayonet.
Just in the first volley of both artillery, grenades and rifles over half of the bokoblins were killed. Bokoblin arms, legs, and guts were flying all around as the bokoblin army started to retreat.
These bokoblins are not the same bokoblins that were spawned by Gannon during the great calamity. They do not possess both the endless bloodlust or super strength of their Gannon counterparts nor are they immortal. Once they die, they really do die and have to be replenished with reproduction.
“SLAVA KILIYI! OORAH!” The Blue Army shouted as they charged towards the routed bokoblins, adding tremendous pressure on the already overstressed bokoblin army.
Kylia had chosen this as the Kylian war cry and many of her soldiers agreed with it. “SLAVA KILIYI!”, translates to “GLORY TO KYLIA!”, is a modified version of the Ukrainian war cry “SLAVA UKRAINI!”, which translates to “GLORY TO UKRAINE!”.
The “OORAH!” at the end is borrowed from the official war cry of the United States Marine Corps, and should not be mistaken for the “URA!” of the Soviet Red Army.
Back to the battle, the bokoblins, who were trying to retreat, were suddenly intercepted by Odin’s 1st cavalry squad. Bokoblins left and right were sliced in half by Kylian cossack swords as they struggled to parry with their flimsy wooden clubs.
Kylia, riding her war horse, looked at the countless Kylian troops who had finished off what little resistance was remaining from the bokoblins, now awaiting orders.
The Blue Army had won this battle easily, if they did not, Kylia would have been worried about if her troops were taking drugs or not. The Blue Army has technology that is more advanced than the rest of the world by more than a couple of generations, let alone fighting against these barbarians.
Even a city state, while being gravely injured with casualties in the hundreds to thousands, would not be wiped off the map from such an attack. However, the Blue Army did this without suffering a single casualty, which is very impressive for such a small mobilized force.
“Soldiers!” Kylia spoke down to the crowd. ”Today we stand on the precipice of history, in the past we have faced unimaginable challenges, and yet, through resilience, fortitude and the development of our people, we have emerged victorious.”
Kylia continued. “Now we must keep this momentum! keep innovating our forces! never one step back! Never regress into the mediocracy of conservatism! Only when we are better than anyone else can we assure the safety of ourselves, family, friends and this glorious State! SLAVA KILIYI! OORAAAAAAH!”
“SLAVA KILIYI! OORAAAAAAH! OORAH! OORAH! OORAH! OORAAAAAAH!” The sound echoed through the winter air, their voices rising in a powerful chorus that resonated deep within, their loyalty cemented to their sacred leader, Kylia.
