A meteor crashed into the graveyard.
Anna had instructed us to take cover so the waves of fire wouldn't hurt us. I can see Anna's forces anticipating that the meteor's massive explosion would completely demolish the entire graveyard.
Even now, I can feel the heat prickling my skin. Looking up, I saw a slew of fires brushing away the dark cloud that had been forming above us, most of which went to the Castle.
After five seconds, the heat and explosion lights fade, and I look around to see where the meteor should have fallen.
The first thing I noticed was that the graveyard was intact, except for its borders, where small fires were spreading here and there. We are taking cover in one of those places, not far from Anna.
We were defended by a transluscient shield cast by a magician working for Anna, while Anna herself was covered by one of the Twin Knight, Daniel shield.
As for our opponents, the Demons, and where the meteor specifically targeted… It was exactly what I anticipated, given the magnitude of the explosion.
If Anna and her Knights aren’t confident enough to take on the Demons without the Saintess, then it means the meteor should be nothing for the Demons.
And I am correct.
They are quite alright.
This is particularly true for the Demons gathered around the two Demon 'leaders', the Demon Clan head. They are covered by a similar translucent shield, a blood coloured one. It covered the majority of the graveyard.
Since they attempted to prevent Anna from casting the meteor spell, most of the Demons outside the shield have gathered around her. The meteor blast clearly affected them, transforming them into charred corpses.
For the others, they either conceal themselves behind gravestones or in the masuleom near Susan.
Susan Gremory, the woman who was hunting Kunti and apparently the new Clan head of the Demons slowly lowered her hand. The shield protecting the Demons disappeared with her hand motion.
The other Clan head of the Demon named Algor Alloces, calmed down his horse as it started to trot in the direction of Anna. The Demon around him followed. As if on cue, Daniel stopped using his large shield to cover Anna and his twin Danny.
The Twin Knights started to walk towards the Demons. Danny leads the group, wielding his Zweihander. Daniel, with his shield and longsword, closely sticks behind his brother.
Like Susan, Anna didn't move from her position. They appear to be planning to bolster their side using a different strategy. Probably with magic.
There is silence between the two forces, except for the sizzle of fire and footsteps.
“Rivan right? Let’s go.”
One of the Anna men whispered to me, I looked to my left and right, and all I saw were Anna men. Now that they are near me, I've noticed that half of them have a look of fear on their faces. It seems they aren’t used to seeing such scenes.
They are assigned to escort me to the corpses inside the graveyard. The Demon, like us, refrained from deploying their entire force to challenge Anna and the Twin Knights.
Some of them were evidently guarding a large structure in the graveyard, known as a masuleum. It was probably where they held Jacob.
We didn’t go there.
About three out of four Anna men, including myself, moved towards the opposite side of the large building. The rest of Anna's forces are long range combatants like archers and magicians, so they opt to stay back.
We are heading to the storage area for the new corpses. They are Demon related corpses, so all of them were scheduled to be buried in mass graves today.
As we move, I glance at where the battle should start soon.
By now, the Demons had changed into humanoid monsters. Well, most of them do, as some turn into translucient ghosts. Their look is similar to the Irregular type-H or type-M in my original world. I can see that Mana wasn't involved in the transformation.
The Demon with the horse, Algor went ahead, and Danny received the rushing demon by jumping directly to him. As the two men clash, Daniel moves to stop the majority of the Demons that followed behind Algor.
The rest of the Demon evaded Daniel entirely, opting to go directly to Anna. Around her, a circle of fire formed. In the middle of the circle, a burst of fire hit the Demons.
Anna's joy is palpable as her fire engulfs the Demons. Although some managed to resist the fate of being burned like a steak because of how their skin turned to stone.
Just when they were almost reaching Anna, she brought out a peculiar shaped knife. It shines a blazing light, and the Demons back out of sight instead of taking that opportunity to take out Anna.
That was a beneficial decision. Anna made a few slashes, striking a demon who was too slow to evade. Anna cut his body clean like butter.
It didn’t stop there, wave of light penetrated through him, and shave of a demon's arm behind him. Anna made more slashes around her, and at the same time, more circles of fire spawned around her.
This time, they are directed towards the Demons around Daniel. Seeing so, Susan no longer just stood around and shielded the Demons from it.
She also cast her own spell in the form of those dark red sticks formed from the dead Demons bodies. She directed them towards Daniel and Danny.
Seeing the battle from afar, I discerned that both of the Clan head are holding back, while Anna and her Knights going all out. Susan is clearly taking her time in dealing with her enemies.
Why? Is it because they are confident in their numbers? Or are they waiting for the long game? Attrition.

It appears that they shouldn't be the primary cause.
My head is running through for some reason while I and Anna forces finally reached the inside of the graveyard. I look left to see where the big building is located, it is suspiciously close to Susan, but she is keeping a distance from it.
My eyes cursor through the entire group of Demons guarding the masoleum. I noticed there are no ghosts demon among them.
There must be another demon item that weakens the ghost demon inside. They thought Kunti would join in this rescue mission.
This implies that their hesitation to fully commit was not due to Kunti's absence, as they had prepared a trap specifically for her. A trap so effective that few were left to guard the masoleum. Susan would stop us if we attempted to approach the masoleum ourselves.
Susan isn’t afraid of regular humans.
Then it dawned on me.
They must be afraid of the Saintess. Anna said the Saintess will purify the Demon tomorrow, but because of her lack of presence here, she must be somewhere else.
Anna, waiting for the Saintess confirms she has exceptional combat ability.
The Demon must be anticipating additional reinforcement in the form of the Saintess, given our sudden attack.
No, something didn’t add up.
If they already know the Saintess is somewhere around here, Susan won’t dare clash against Anna and her Knights that night. The fact they were still lingering around in the graveyard while knowing they were being watched by Anna should also mean the Saintess didn’t appear to help that night either.
The Demon was unaware of the Saintess' presence in this city. Then… it must be the Kingdom or the Church forces.
I am too fixated on the Saintess and forget the others have their own armies. The Demon must somehow have heard that the Kingdom forces are moving to stop the Rebellion.
It means if they find out we are moving separately from the Kingdom forces, they will go all out.
After figuring out the current situation, I look forward to the battle once more. Everything has changed.
Algor Alloces, the Clan head of the Alloces is running amok as he is surrounded by Daniel and Danny. Around him, spirits and ghosts rise from the corpses of Demons and dark portals. Those spirit demon helped him keep Daniel from supporting his brother.
While Susan Gremory is having a one-on-one match against Anna. Even with a quick glance, Anna was overwhelmed by Susan onslaught of blood and flesh flying around her.
As for the Demons, they are moving in our direction in a desperate manner.
“Why are they chasing us? We must run faster. Go go.”
One of Anna's forces said it urgently. We couldn't comprehend why, as we traversed a dense hedge and descended a hill, the clearing served as the designated location for the corpses.
It is a startling sight. Calling them corpses was a generous statement.
It reminds me of when I was raiding a branch of the Hospital a few years ago. Inhumane, brutal, and diabolical. Looking from above, I realised that, aside from the condition of the corpses, it seemed the Demon had arranged them in a specific pattern.
It reminded me of the first two ritual pages from the Grimoire of Desire.
I snapped out of it and looked around me. All of Anna's forces are dumbstruck, and the Demons are closing in fast.
“Wake up! Guard me for awhile.”
I jumped down the slope into the meat-filled clearing. Looking up, I saw some of the Anna forces begin to set up defensive positions.
I know that with their current mental condition, their morale is hitting rock bottom. I need to be quick.
With the Grimoire in hand, I opened to the fifth page.

Between Adalbert and Sister Yuri, I made my decision.
In this current situation, Adalbert fits what I need perfectly.
Despite the fact that Adalbert READ is much more dangerous for the present me..
By using READ, you will inherit what or who is in that Irregular temporarily. You will take on their traits, ideas, aspirations, and even their will.
Not everyone can use READ too, there is a basic requirement for it, and it is also the same requirement to be any Major Factions member.
Strong mental power.
In the case of READ, if your psyche isn’t formidable enough to hold onto your sense of self, you will be devoured by the Irregular in that READ. If compatible, the Irregular will also take control of your body. The Irregular came back to life.
If there is a similarity or connection between the Librarian and the Irregulars, it can lessen their impact. For example, a young librarian can use his older brother's READ.
The READ time limit is also set. It is different for each person, but the general rule for Librarians is to not frequently use it more than two times in a week. Rest your mind by reading your own Life book.
The READ also might be disintigrated if they are overused too, they must be recovered by a department inside the Library. These limitations reduced the combat potential of Librarians and, by extension, the power of the Library.
I had just used Mathieu READ of the unknown slime a few days ago, it's still been less than one week.
I should be fine.
A heavy book appeared in my free hand. I quickly glanced at the book's title. Unlike Mathieu READ, they are more… older but complete.

I took a deep breath as I raised my head towards the clearing. It's relatively empty now. Since I saw some intact corpses in the corner and saw one of their faces, I decided not to sacrifice them.
They look similar to the young woman who cries in the castle. Older version of her.
Regardless, for all the corpses used for the sacrifices, I felt they were barely enough to Copy Adalbert's READ…
As expected of one of the founders of the Modern Librarians. The psyche requirement to use it will be no joke.
I look up and see that Anna's forces are currently battling the Demons. I could see some blood red sticks flying here and there, indicating Susan is close.
Maybe it's time to use it. Once again, my heart is beating.
Despite the READ being friendly to me, it holds no assurance, as Adalbert, a direct descendant of the READ himself, is still dubbed to be talented for being able to use it with less precurssion.
I took another deep breath and fixed my glasses. I opened the READ while reminiscing about my first time using this particular READ.
