prologue

[*Flash*

In the blinding white light, a “Hero” suddenly appeared. HE came to slay the evilness which reigned tyrannically over the beautiful city of Draconia.

As the valiant “Hero” strode forward to battle the vile vampire coven controlling the city, he never thought about why they had tears rolling down their face. He simply put an end to the evil lords with a flash of his silver blade in the name of justice.

That was the last time I saw my parents and Draconia. On that dreadful day, I barely escaped with my life.

I am Rex Draconis, rightful heir of the throne of Draconia. My family had ruled Draconia justly for over two thousand years. That is until the “Hero” came along.

HE rewrote history and made us look like a group of evil vile creatures who ruled by force and terror.

A few hours earlier, my parents decided to move the coronation and the transformation ahead to that night.

That night, we headed to the inner sanctuary. It was a round room with five alabaster pillars each inscribed with a different language. The pillars were all leading to the five points of two pentagrams one on the ceiling and one on the floor.

My parents poured their crimson blood in the golden ornate chalice and told me to drink from it. As I was about to do it, the sound of steel boots on stone floors was heard from the hallway leading to the inner sanctuary.

My parents face’s stiffened as they knew what was coming, what was awaiting them. However there was no sign of fear on their faces, only resignation to the fate that would surely happen.

Before I knew about it, they bit down on my neck to turn me into one of them. As their vampiric venom pumped through my veins, something in me seemed to grasp for it.

As I struggle in pain, my father grabbed my shirt and in a shove sent me flying out to the ornate stained glass window with the symbol of our clan two crossed fangs.

I smashed through it and started falling down to the moat. As I fell, I felt power even though my transformation was ravaged my body. I shivered as the power rushed through my veins and changing my very being forever.

Time seemed to slow down as I fell. Everything seemed as if it didn’t matter; not even the fact that I was falling to my death mattered. My thoughts were clouded. I couldn’t understand why my father shoved me out the window.

Then, I heard the death cries of my parents and I stopped thinking. From there, the last thing I remembered was darkness as I slammed bone shatteringly into the icy water of the moat.
