Chapter 9

As Kartana lead me through our current military outpost we headed down a hallway that seemed even to my echolocation to be a dead end. She continued onwards and walked directly into the wall. She vanished. She didn’t walk through the wall like my mother showed me during her teaching me how to dispel illusions. Kartana just vanished as if ripped from this world. I walked up to the wall and attempted to figure out what happened. I remembered what my mother said. “In order to dispel an illusion you must first accept that not everything you hear feel see smell or taste is real. An illusion is only someone else's imagination being forced to overlap reality.” Once I remembered this I attempted to force my way through the wall.

“Thats not going to work.” Alyona said from behind me. She then continued “Its not an illusion. It is a solid wall. You are currently standing near a teleportation crystal Jack and I set up. It leads to the War Room. You can activate it by slowly releasing your mana into the air. This was all covered while you were making your sword I thought you heard.”

“It is really creepy not being able to hear you coming.” I said to brush over my lack of knowledge. I started to slowly release mana from all over my body.

Suddenly I appeared in a chair facing a oval table with what seemed to be a semi-solid reconstruction of the underground base and the forest surrounding the nearby town. The only piece missing from the model was the town itself and the land it stood on.

“That model shows the land we currently control.” Alyona said after she appeared. “Since you most likely were not paying attention to anything I said while you were making your sword you may want to know about your coffin.” She said as she pointed behind me. “That is something your grandfather said would be important. If you are mortally wounded your soul should be able to flee your body and return to the coffin which will slowly reconstruct your body. Your grandfather also told me there are quite a few people who you may want as allies. The witches of the east should be an ally that would be easy to get. However getting into contact with them will be difficult. The werewolves of the north are also a group that would be easy to get on our side.”

“Werewolves? Who ever heard of werewolves and vampires being friends? There is no way they would ally themselves with us.” I said

“You skipped the history part as well I am guessing. Werewolves and vampires have always been allies. We have always pretended to be at war with the werewolves so as to stop the humans from growing nervous.” She said. Then she continued. “However the war between vampires and lycanthropes is real. Lycanthropes are more or less the offspring of werewolf criminals. Since we killed werewolf criminals to appear as if we were at war with the werewolves the lycanthropes saw us as creatures who brought death. That is why the stories you have heard said werewolves and vampires were enemies.”

“I am guessing we need to send a messenger to the witches and werewolves asking for assistance.” I said.

“Yes. but there is a slight problem. Only someone of royal blood may step onto the land of the werewolves. Either I must go or you must go for meeting the werewolves. However for the witches you are the only one able to go there. Only someone of pure royal blood may pass the trials and tests that will accompany getting to them. I would suggest taking jack along with you. He is the only other person here besides me and you who can survive death. While you are away I will focus on reconstructing this area into a fitting outpost. As well as getting everything in order for when you are ready to take down Jabel.” Alyona said.

“Is it time to head out yet?” Jack said from the corner of the room. Jack handed me a rolled up paper with a string on it. He then said “ I have been experimenting with this new body of mine. It seems to be an interdimensional body. Using essence created from pieces of my body and a basic mapping spell I was able to create a map that copies all knowledge that the holder knows and can form a three dimensional representation of the area. As we explore it should slowly grow and show the areas we have explored and seen.” He gestured for me to open the paper. As I did so he continued “The map is linked to a person by spilling their blood on the map. Now that that’s covered we also need to find a dragon and kill it as well. I am thinking of waiting till we are much stronger before attempting that. I don’t think my mana will last long enough to even harm a dragon yet.” After saying that he vanished.

“Now that all the important stuff is taken care of I leave the base in your hands Alyona.” I said as I started to head out the door.

“That door wont work for you yet. That door leads to the realm of shadows. It takes true power to open it. You can leave this place by releasing your mana like you did to get in here.” Alyona said right before she vanished she vanished.

“We have guests” Jack said. Then he continued “They seem to be searching for us. Currently there are about two hundred or so above us. They don’t know where we are but I think they are suspicious because of the missing wolves and books. I am guessing we should deal with them on our way out. We only have two hours or so to do it. The sun should be rising soon.”

“I think it is about time for me to stretch.”

I said as I walked out of the entrance through the illusion wall.

“Hello intruders.”

My voice boomed throughout the forest.

“The price for trespassing on my land is death.”

Before the echo of my voice had died down I swung my sword through the neck of the armored man next to me. As his head sailed through the air I grabbed it to toss at one of the farther people. Sadly, it faded away shortly after it left my hand. One of the quicker men attempted to stab me from behind. I used Vampiric Run to appear behind him and stabbed him in the back. As expected the sword did not go very deep into him. I grabbed his body off the tip of my sword and used it as a blunt tool to destroy the face of the person next to me.

The mangled bodies faded away shortly after their hearts stopped beating. I looked up and smiled as hundreds of arrows flew towards me from a distance. I used vampiric run to appear between a group of five people. I grabbed the leftmost by the arm and swung her into the hail of arrows stopping them from hitting me. Immediately after she screamed, the rest of the small group looked at me. I slammed my sword through the mage in their group following up, by leaving it embedded in a warrior’s side. While the warrior was incapacitated, I grabbed the archer’s bow and impaled him with it. I turned to the last man standing and grabbed his staff. He seemed to be trying to do something with his arm so I broke it with his staff. He screamed ‘log out’ or something along those lines and went limp.

“Who exactly said you people could trespass on my land? I know I did not invite you. Maybe it was the church of that nearby town. Maybe it was the mayor of that town. No matter. After I am done with all of you I will destroy that town.”

I said calmly however my voice echoed throughout the forest. After twisting my sword out of the warriors body his heart stopped and he faded away.

I could feel my mana crackling under my skin. It seemed hungry. It seemed to be looking for a way out. I started to open the mana path in my hands. I could feel every ounce of my power escaping. As I fell to my knees I watched as the lightning flew off into the sky.

Feeling exhausted I could do nothing but look at the clouds above to where my lightning flew. the still silence pervaded the air. I could hear the archers all around me preparing to fire their arrows. Suddenly the night sky grew darker. Hundreds of arcs of black lightning fell from the sky killing everything that was alive.

Watching King Draconis fight was like watching a horror movie. A creature bathed in black lighting flashing between one place and another as he pleases. His voice seemed to echo inside your skull. Coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.

After his introduction his blade flashed at an imperceptible speed severing the head of the shocked male warrior. He grabbed the flying skull and flung it like one would a ball in dodge ball. He seemed disappointed that the skull did not reach the people before fading away. An assassin attempted to get a sneak attack in only to be struck by the lightning left in the wake of King Draconis’ Vampiric Run.

After appearing behind the assassin Draconis stabbed him with the tip of his sword. He seemed disappointed about something. He grabbed the assassin by the elbow and ripped him off the sword and smashed an incoming assassin with the dead body. Someone seemed to have whispered for an archer bombardment because arrows started flying in.

King Draconis only smiled. Four assassins approached him from behind in an attempt to kill him. All they managed to do was strike air and lightning as he was long gone. They fell on the floor and vanished. I looked to where the lightning was headed to see him tossing a body into the air to guard against the arrows. As the arrows pierced the body and vanished with it King Draconis cut through the mage and embedded his sword half-way through the warrior that was using his shield to guard the small group from the arrows.

He turned towards the archer who was still fumbling with his arrows trying to get one knocked properly and ripped the bow from the archers hand then impaled him with the bow propping up his still twitching body.

He turned towards what could only be described as a terror stricken individual. I think the boy was operating some kind of window unsteadily when King Draconis used the staff to smash the kids arm. Destroying both the arm and the staff.

He reached backwards towards the warrior who was only propped up by the sword buried in his midsection and twisted the sword and pulled it out of him. The sword then flowed Into King Draconis as he turned his palms skyward. Suddenly I felt my skin crawl. A tower of lightning flashed out of his hands and flew off into the sky. Everything was silent. The first thing to break the silence was the archers finally knocking their arrows. Then the lightning fell and the silence was replaced by screams being cut short. The lightning seemed to look for more targets before finally dissipating. As I looked around not a single blade of grass was burnt nor a single tree harmed. The only thing left in the forest was King Draconis sleeping in a grassy field surrounded by littered items.

I walked around looking for useful things. There seemed to be plenty of weapons and armor but nothing useful. Even the furs that dropped were of lower quality than the skin I could peel off of myself. I found only three crystals that could be of use. Maybe I could make an energy bow out of them.

I guess its time to leave. I picked King Draconis up from the cove and stepped into my shadow door.
