Chapter 6 : Coup

Chapter 6 : Coup

“The Council’s last day is upon us. Their cruel reign over this land is coming to an end.” Alastor’s words helped motivate the group in these uncertain times, even if only a little. What Alastor said next is what truly motivated everyone, “I didn’t tell you guys this, but we really need to end this. My contact mentioned a plot to destroy Angel’s Province. I don’t exactly know their plan but whatever it is, it can’t be good”

Everyone was a little miffed that Alastor didn’t mention this before, but they decided it was better late than never. They understood the real importance of the mission now; It wasn’t just liberating the nation but protecting their home. With a new sense of determination the group set out to end a threat.

It was noon when the group infiltrated the City Hall. The inside was more gorgeous than the outside. The décor looked expensive, and enchanting, the staff looked regal, and well mannered, and most importantly of all everyone looked happy. Alastor saw right through the facade, “The people will get their justice” he thought to himself.

Unlike the others Alastor took a bold approach by entering through the front, “Sir you can’t enter that room. The High Council is holding their very important meeting.” Alastor made eye contact with the secretary showing her his dragon eyes. The secretaries eyes turned draconic mimicking Alastor's, then quickly turned back to normal. In a somber tone she said “I’m so sorry for stopping you sir. You may enter.”

Alastor put his hand on the door then proceeded to blow it off it’s hinges. “So much for being quiet.” The rest of the team came out of their hiding spots annoyed that Alastor threw away the element of surprise.

The guards rushed the group in order to protect the council members, but it was pointless in the face of Alastor’s overwhelming might. Alastor knocked out all of the guards in one go, “Sorry, but today is the day you all die.” Alastor lunged at the Council members and threw out an attack. A shadow swiftly moved in front of Alastor and parried his attack. The shadow landed a counter attack sending Alastor flying through the marble wall. The man that stopped Alastor’s attack was dawning black and silver armor with a crest of the sun on the chest piece.

“Sorry, but the only ones dying today are you guys.” Shouted the man. The council members all started hollering and shouting insults at the group whilst a woman wearing robes with the same crest appeared next to the knight. Lillia was the one to notice that the mage was holding a shard of heaven. “No!” Yelled Lillia as she rushed the mage. The knight swiftly got in Lillia’s way and unsheathed his sword, throwing a barrage of attacks once fully brandished. The other’s didn’t miss a beat. Even though Lillia’s speed surprised them, they went to attack the mage trusting Lillia’s judgment, but they were too late.

The guards that Alastor knocked out immediately woke up and began attacking the group with their new found strength. The group was overwhelmed quickly causing them to back up. This however didn’t do them any good because they were surrounded and outnumbered by at least ten. “This isn’t good. Those damn shards are nothing but trouble.” said Alastor as he casually walked through the hole in the wall.

“Royal Guards listen up!” Shouted the knight. “You guys take care of this group, and we’ll take care of this guy.” Everyone sprang into action causing the City Hall to start shaking. Alastor was the first to be targeted by the mage. She teleported Alastor, the Knight, and Herself into a dark world with the only thing being visible is them.

On the outside everyone but Lillia was struggling, however her advantage was not enough to defeat everyone easily. Lilith was barely holding on, although her strength was nothing to laugh at, it was no match for a shard of heaven. Lilith was swiftly knocked to the floor and about to be struck but was saved by Benjamin who threw his opponent at Lilith’s. Lillia was taking on most of guards by herself and winning until one of the guards pulled out another shard of heaven and used it. Lillia went from winning to being at a stalemate. Lillia dodged as much as she could trying to think of a plan until she remembered a technique Abel taught her. Link.

Lillia dodged another attack before landing a liver shot to one of the guards causing them all to fall to the floor and cough up blood. “What did you do!” yelled one of the councilors. Lillia didn’t answer as she summoned her sword and pierced the heart of the man, killing all of the guards in one go. Everyone was amazed at Lillia’s power.

Alastor and the knight were clashing swords while the mage tried using magic against Alastor; this didn’t work because Alastor’s flames nullified the magic. The speed of both men was outrageous, neither faltering with their conviction. “Magnus we need to return. The guards have been defeated.” shouted the mage. Magnus retreated next to the mage, taunting Alastor as the mage tried but unsuccessfully teleport themselves back to City Hall. Magnus had stopped taunting, “What are you doing we need to protect the High Council.”

“I’m trying but the spell isn’t working.” Alastor let out a laugh. “It’s because I’m canceling out your attempts. You’re stuck in here with me” Magnus rushed Alastor without hesitation but Alastor dodged and thrust his sword into Magus's neck. The knight tried talking but all that was audible was the sound of Magnus choking on his own blood. “How did you do that? You were both evenly matched the whole time.” yelled the mage. Alastor smirked “To be honest I was just buying the other’s time, and it worked out better than I expected.”

“How dare you toy with us!” The mage summoned a huge ball of magic and launched it at Alastor. “You never learn.” A shiver went down the mages spine as Alastor showed her his draconic eyes. The ball of magic immediately caught fire when it entered Alastor’s vicinity, then fizzled away just as quickly, before the mage could process what had happened Alastor had a death grip around her throat. “Release the spell or die.” In fear for her life the mage complied and teleported them back to city hall.

Alastor was a man of his word and dropped the mage. “Get out of here. Try anything and you’ll die.” Lilith ran up to Alastor and hugged him. “Let’s end this.” Stated Lilith. The group walked up to the council members, their killing intent being felt by everyone in the vicinity. Alastor released his wings causing the council members to bow down and beg for mercy. Alastor was furious but calm with his word. “You dare ask for mercy when you tried to go after Lillia, and I.” The council members finally recognized Alastor. “We are so very sorry. We didn’t know who we were messing with, had we known you were a dragon we wouldn’t have sent a party out to collect you two.” Without hesitation Alastor killed the man. “Now tell us about your plan to destroy Angel’s Province or -”

Alastor was in the middle of his speech when him and Lillia sensed the presence of another shard. The two turned around to see the mage plunge a giant shard of heaven into Magus's chest. The two rushed the mage but they were too late.

The knight appeared behind the two and swung his sword. Alastor dodged but Lillia wasn’t as fast. She barely had enough time to summon her shield which shattered on impact. “This isn’t good” Alastor stated. Alastor summoned a sword and went on the offensive. The two warriors caused shock waves as their swords collided. “Alastor” Lilith Yelled “If you keep this up the building is going to come down.”

Alastor pushed back Magnus and retreated to the others. Alastor lifted his hand causing anchors made of fire to come out and attach themselves to the walls, without hesitation Alastor pulled the chains causing the building to collapse. Once the dust settled Alastor released his dome of fire that was protecting everyone and proceeded to chain up the council members. Magnus easily shrugged off the rubble that lay on top of him while the mage released the magic shield protecting her.

“Lillia you get the mage, I got the big guy, and the rest of you guy’s keep an eye on the council members. If you can provide support do it.” Alastor and Lillia sprang into action without skipping a beat.
