Lilith stood in front of her mirror admiring her physique, the days she spent training with Alastor were paying off. Her control over her magic had substantially increased, and her efficiency with her sword was nothing to scoff at.
The other students were also training alongside Lilith. Alastor's insight in magic and combat made him very popular in the school, even the teachers also acknowledged his intellect and skill. This however caused some controversy between the stronger students.
The stronger students viewed Alastor's teachings to be threatening towards their status, however, this didn't bother Alastor so he continued on teaching anyone who wanted to honestly learn the way of magic.
Lilith and Her friends got special treatment when it came to training, they all got private lessons on what they needed to get stronger for their certain skill sets. They were all progressing at a rapid rate; enough to be considered one of the stronger groups in the school.
They also trained in teamwork to make use of their powers to benefit each other.
Lilith stretched her aching muscles and finished getting ready for the day. She wore her casual attire. A skirt with leggings, a button-up shirt, and a coat. She combed her beautiful purple hair into her usual style and left her dorm.
The dorms are for students who live abroad or in other parts of Angel's province. They are very spacious for dorms; They come standard with a king-sized bed, kitchen, bathroom, and living room.
Lilith's smile and radiating beauty made her popular among the boys; although she was never interested in any of the other things that life had to offer, today would be the turning point in her life where all of that would change.
Lilith made it to where Alastor was sitting under the tree where he usually spent most of his time. She took a seat next to him and saw that for the first time, he looked like he had something on his mind. In the year that Lilith sat with Alastor, she never saw him with any type of expression. Although he carried himself seriously his face always had a blank expression.
Lilith asked him what was wrong which caused Alastor to break out of his trance. "Nothing is wrong. It's just I wanted to ask you something but I didn't know how you would react if I did."
Lilith lifted her hair over her ear and asked, "What did you want to ask me?"
She already had a feeling about what the question was going to be but regardless if she knew she still couldn't stop her heart that was already beating at a rapid rate.
"I wanted to know if you wanted to go with me into the city?"
"Like a date?"
"Yeah exactly like that." Alastor couldn't help but smile which caused Lilith's heart to beat even faster.
"Sure I would love to."
Lilith and Alastor headed to the city for their date. The nearby city shared the same name as the Academy. The city had a large population of over five hundred thousand and was very famous for being the city where the students chose to hang out on their days off.
The city had a lot of things to do whether it was to dine at the finest restaurants or play games at the city square. The city is one of many hundred in Angel's province.
Angel's province is famous for its strong military power and its happy peaceful ways of living. Angel's province was also where people migrated to when they wanted to start a new life free from famine and disease.
The pair took their time reaching the city to talk about their interests and hobbies. Lilith did most of the talking, she liked spending time with her father and enjoyed farming. Alastor explained that as a kid he was ostracized and that he spent all his time fighting so he didn't really have time to look for hobbies.
"I'm sorry. That must have been really hard," Lilith said in a sad tone
Alastor on the other hand let out a laugh, "Don't worry about it. I actually enjoyed my time fighting for survival. So I guess in a way it is my hobby."
Lilith and Alastor eventually made it to the city. They immediately went to eat at a famous restaurant. While waiting for their food Lilith pressed more on Alastor's past.
"Why were you ostracized?"
Alastor was trying to balance two straws on top of each other when he answered, "I was different from my other family members. I didn't look like them so they in turn didn't like me. The families in my tribe also said I looked like an abomination, and my power was too destructive for my own good. They were right."
Lilith wanted to ask more questions but their food had just arrived. Lilith ordered spaghetti with meatballs, and Alastor ordered the same but spicy. The two were enjoying their meal but Lilith couldn't get over what Alastor had told her, eventually she ended up asking, "You were ostracized by the way you looked? No offense but your appearance is very human."
"Times were different back then, and my appearance isn't what it used to be."
"Back then?"
The waitress delivering the parfait's Alastor ordered distracted Lilith. Lilith forgot what she had just asked Alastor.
After they finished their meal and dessert the two went into the city square to play some of the carnival games. Not surprisingly the city square was packed with couples, most of the men were trying to win the obviously rigged games for their partner but were unsuccessful.
Alastor unsurprisingly was skilled enough to beat all the games and win the grand prizes. That day he won a giant stuffed Orc, A stuffed dragon, and other prizes he gave away. The two spent hours going from game to game just talking and winning.
Eventually, the two were banned from playing any more games so they decided to take a break on a nearby bench. Lilith lay her head on Alastor's shoulder and thanked him for the fun day she had. The two stayed in that position for what seemed like hours before Lilith heard a voice she recalled.
"Lilith, is that you?" The Lady calling Lilith was a beautiful lady dawning silky brown hair with eyes to match. Her floral dress and Jewelry were the classic symbols of upper-class living.
Lilith stood up and greeted the woman, "It's so good to see you, Amaya." Lilith knew Amaya through her father; they both served as one of the five captains of the military.
"What are you doing in the city?" questioned Amaya
"I'm here on a date with a boy." Her red cheeks were evident to Amaya
"With who?"
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Lilith turned around to see Alastor suddenly disappeared. "I guess he went to the bathroom." Lilith pointed to Alastor who had just entered the bathroom.
"I see." Amaya changed the subject, "I heard there was a new student at the Academy and that they defeated Dylan."
"Yeah, that's him actually. He's been helping me, and the students train in his free time."
"How generous of him. I should personally thank him for taking good care of you."
"There is no need to do that."
Lilith and Amaya jumped. Alastor was standing right behind Lilith with a smile, "I didn't even notice you coming up behind me." said Lilith
"I just wanted to give you a little scare."
Amaya although she didn't show it she was dumbfounded. She had always been a cautious person so naturally she was constantly searching for threats but Alastor's presence wasn't even registered on her radar. Regardless she put on a face, "You must be the person I heard so much about. I heard you defeated Dylan without breaking a sweat."
"Yeah, like I told Lilith he wasn't too strong so there wasn't really anything to worry about. He does have potential if he keeps training."
Amaya made a face that Lilith instantly noticed, "Dylan is actually really strong, after his training was to finish at the school he was going to join the royal guards." Amaya stated
"If that's the strength of a royal guard then they need more training in my opinion."
Amaya was taken aback by Alastor's words. No one would dare scoff at any of the royal guard's powers, they are said to be the strongest of the nation's military other than the five captains.
Unexpectedly Amaya politely asked Alastor for a demonstration of his power at the dojo. Alastor agreed to the request but said that it had to be tomorrow since Lilith, and him were still on a date.
Amaya agreed and left the two to their date.
Lilith quickly turned to Alastor and started yelling, "Why did you accept that challenge? Amaya is one of the five captains in the military, she is one of the strongest in this nation."
With his blank look, Alastor replied, "Is she? Whoops."
"You're not taking this seriously at all."
"Lilith" Alastor placed a hand on her shoulder, "It's only a demonstration between us two, it's not going to be anything serious."
Alastor was wrong, News quickly spread that Amaya would be fighting a student from Greenville Academy. So many people gathered at the school causing the fight to be moved to the battle arena.
The Arena was reminiscent of a Colosseum but was modernized for school events and big competitions. The seating area was covered in wards preventing damage to the spectators and plenty of food and drinks were sold for this spectacular event.
Lilith was worried for Alastor. It had gone from a demonstration to a full-blown fight. All she could do was pray for Alastor.
Amaya and Alastor stood in the middle of the Arena. Alastor had just finished stretching when the announcer started talking. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to today's sudden event. Today our beloved captain will be fighting off against the newest student in our school. May we get a heart-pounding and safe fight. With that let the fight begin."
The spectators began cheering and roaring about who they thought would win. Not surprisingly most of the crowd cheered for Amaya.
Alastor let out a sigh and looked over at Amaya.
Without skipping a beat Amaya rushed Alastor with her rapier in hand. A violent barrage of attacks were released but none of them landed. Amaya jumped back and noticed the sword in Alastor's hand; upon noticing blood on his blade Amaya felt a sear of pain in her arm. Sure enough, he landed a hit.
The crowd went silent, nobody expected Amaya would lose against someone in sword fighting let alone a new student. An Orc named Gord sat down next to Lilith. She instantly recognized him, "Dad!" She hugged him, "What are you doing here?"
"I heard your boyfriend was fighting Amaya."
Lilith gulped and turned her head back to the battle.
Amaya and Alastor were again engaged in sword combat. Alastor thrust his sword towards Amaya, a magical wall appeared right before the hit landed. The collision shattered Alastor's sword causing him to jump back; In the blink of an eye, he was on the other side of the Arena.
"Amaya's barriers are as strong as ever aren't they, Dad?"
"Yup"
Alastor cut his wrist with the broken blade causing himself to bleed profusely. Both Lilith and Gord were in shock but they could do nothing to intervene.
Alastor dropped the hilt and touched the fresh wound on his wrist. Flames erupted out of the wound which Alastor gripped and pulled out from his wrist. The flame cauterized the wound, stopping the bleeding entirely. The flame took the shape of a sword, which Alastor pointed towards Amaya.
Amaya blinked and Alastor was gone. She instinctively set up a barrier all around herself but it was useless, Alastor easily broke through the barrier and swung his blade towards Amaya. All Amaya could do was lift her hands up to block.
A loud crash was heard on the arena wall. Everybody realized the sound was Amaya slamming against the wall.
"Father, did you see what happened? I think I saw a little of what happened." Asked Lilith
"Yeah, I did. Your boyfriend's sword was about to cut Amaya in half but he realized that she wasn't able to defend against his attack so he shifted his sword into his other hand and twisted his body to land a kick."
Lilith looked forward and started observing the fight once more.
Amaya picked herself up from the floor and started laughing, "Honestly, I didn't think you were going to be this strong but I'm glad you are. I can finally go all out for once.". Amaya removed the gold bracelet she was wearing. Everyone in the arena could feel the vast amount of magic being released.
"Why did Amaya remove her seal?" Lilith started panicking.
Gord put an arm on her shoulder and then said, "He'll be fine I'm certain of it."
Before the bracelet could hit the floor Alastor was already in front of Amaya letting his sword run wild. Amaya responded in kind. The swords clashing were too fast for most of the spectators to even see. Amaya's power had increased exponentially which allowed her to keep up with Alastor.
The jab that Alastor threw out was easily parried by Amaya. Amaya thrust her rapier towards Alastor expecting him to dodge, but the hit landed piercing Alastor's heart. Alastor jumped back, but as soon as he landed on the floor he fell over with blood pouring out of his wound.
Alastor couldn't move his body, all he could do was watch the clouds slowly moving through the sky. The clouds suddenly began stuttering as if it were stop-motion animation, Alastor knew what this meant all too well. He was dying.
Alastor couldn't hear it but the crowd was panicking and screaming in horror. Lilith rushed over to Alastor's side to try to heal him but it was no use. Every time Lilith activated her healing magic it was burned away by the fire Alastor's body was producing.
Alastor felt his eyes getting heavy to the point where he let the darkness envelop him. In the darkness all Alastor could hear was "Thanks for responding to my call."
It was several hours later when Alastor woke up. He looked around to inspect his surroundings and noticed he was in the infirmary. Without wasting a breath Alastor got up and left the building, he walked through the empty schoolyard eventually making his way to his usual spot underneath the tree.
Alastor noticed Lilith and Gord sitting underneath the tree, as he walked closer the sound of crying became crystal clear. Alastor got next to Lilith, put a hand on her shoulder, and asked, "What are you crying about?"
Lilith looked up to see Alastor, and without hesitation she jumped on him, tackling him in the process. With tears in her eyes, Lilith asked, "How are you alive? I heard you died."
Alastor hugged Lilith and told her his magic healed him. Alastor turned his attention to the Orc, "Gord, it's been a while hasn't it?"
Gord let out a laugh, "It really has. How have you been after all of these years?"
Lilith got off of Alastor and asked, "You guys know each other?"
Alastor was the one who replied, "Yeah, Gord and I used to spar a lot back in the day. I used to roll with him back then."
"Spar you say?" Gord replied
Alastor let out a laugh.
Gord turned serious, and asked Alastor a question, "Why did you let Amaya's attack hit you? If you wanted you could have ended the fight the moment she took off her seal, but you didn't."
Alastor looked towards the lake and started speaking in a language that Lilith couldn't understand but Gord's facial expression showed that he understood what he was being told. Gord acknowledged Alastor's reasons but warned against them at the same time.
Although Lilith didn't want to be nosy, the curiosity inside her was eating away at her. Gord stood up and thanked Alastor for taking care of Lilith before leaving the two.
Lilith turned to Alastor confused, "Is it true what father said? You had the power to take down Amaya."
"Maybe."
"If you did why didn't you?"
"If I had won then what would happen to her reputation? The image of the captains can't be shattered, and if I had won then what would happen in the rankings of the military."
Lilith was thinking over what Alastor had told her when it started raining. The rain picked up quickly causing Lilith to stand up and extend her hand towards Alastor. Alastor looked up and was mesmerized, Lilith's appearance was the same as it usually was but for some reason the rain made her beauty pop, her silky hair was wet and glowing, and her smile looked brighter.
Alastor wanted to reach out and accept her invitation but something was holding him back, in the end, he declined and sat in the pouring rain all alone. Just like he always was.
Alastor closed his eyes and started thinking about the times he used to spend as a kid with his one and only friend. Abel.
