The Deep Sea
Nate and Carol

Nate and Carol

The girl opens Nate's door and once she sees Nate, standing staring out the window at the sea beyond, she says "Hey, it is you!!"

Nate jumps a little and looks at her "Hey Carol..." She comes running over and hugs him.

"You don't look good..." she says as she lets him go. She sees the vial of blood that's just like the one her boss has so she sneakily takes it while Nate is distracted but she puts it back since she feels bad for him.

Nate looks away "I'm...alright. Just a little...losing my mind a bit."

"Why do you say that?" she asks, tilting her head a little.

Nate looks at her "Just...it's nothing. Don't worry about it." He gives her a strained smile.

She looks at him curiously as she says "Cthulhu is trying to get into your head due to someone of his past affecting him and this is payback unless it could be he's trying to attack you since he knows you're stronger than him."

Nate shakes his head "I'm not dad...he's probably attacking me because he knows I'm weaker." Despite saying this, he smiles at the thought of being attacked for being stronger than an old deity.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Carol frowns and shakes her head "You think so little of yourself...but you are stronger than Cthulhu, stop comparing yourself to your father and believe in yourself!"

Nate stares at her before shaking his head "Thanks but...how could I ever be stronger than a deity? I'm not my father or my mother...I'm just me although maybe that's the important thing..." He lapses into silence before he stands up and looks at his reflection which is twisted by Cthulhu's tricks showing blood dripping down from his eyes as if he's crying tears of blood. He touches the mirror, right where his bloodied eyes are.

After a few seconds he whispers "Hmmm....well...I haven't run from a challenge often enough to start now. Let Cthulhu play his games and let me sink by those games...in the end I'll win cause I'll fight while sinking...that makes no sense but it's true all the same." He laughs almost hysterically but he seems to have accepted that he needs to stop comparing himself to others, especially his dad and instead focus on getting stronger in his own way.

Carol smiles encouragingly "You can do this! Also may I ask, do you need that vial?" she points at the vial on his desk.

"Yes...it's important to me" he says as he grabs the vial and slips it into his pocket.

"Why is that? Why do you need it?" she asks curiously.

"That's...none of your business. It's just important to me." he says, looking away a bit.

Carol nods and looks down "I must get going...uh, be safe Natey." She uses her watch and teleports away, leaving Nate alone with the voice of Cthulhu in his head.
