41. Final Conclusion

So, she did have powers. Just like Max. That was one thought they all shared but that was right before imagining the absolute chaos this woman would be capable of.

They all flinched and were too afraid to respond.

Julianne: Well?

Tiffany: I... I...

Rose was too scared to put up another mind link so they could strategize.

Even Luke, who was usually calm in such situations, was incredibly tense.

Tiffany: I.... I'll talk.

Julianne's shining blue eyes finally turned to normal, and the lights suddenly turned themsleves back on.

Julianne: Alright.

Rose took several deep breaths and Julianne waited till she was done hyperventilating.

Julianne: You may begin.

Tiffany started.

Tiffany: We all just met Max today at school. From there, befriended all of us quite quickly.

Julianne: Go on.

She took a sip of her coffee.

Tiffany: We, I mean the four of us, are a team. We work together to fight those who threaten the lives of the people in this city.

Julianne simply took yet another sip of her coffee.

Tiffany: On one of our missions, we...

Tiffany paused, deciding not to reveal the name of their enemy to her.

Tiffany: ...we decided to face off against an opponent. But, he was too strong for all of us. We were in over our heads.

Tiffany paused before she continued.

Tiffany: And it just so happened that Max had followed us and then...

She struggled with the last sentence.

Tiffany: And then... he used his powers to save us.

A tear dropped from her eye as she finished, while Luke, Ken and Rose looked at her empathetically.

Julianne: I see.

She took the final sip from her mug. They all watched her silently.

A deep sigh escaped Julianne's mouth. What to do, oh what to do?

Tiffany felt like she wanted to stab herself. Feeling responsible for an innocent person's suffering hurt her like a knife. But, of course, it hurt the rest of the team as well.

The silence in the room was deafening and suffocating. Tiffany was gritting her teeth. Luke wanted to talk to her, but the air in the room was too chilling for such a venture.

It was several moments before anyone spoke.

Julianne: For one thing, I believe you.

They all looked up in shock.

Tiffany: Y... you do?

Julianne: Yes. Breaking the rules and acting recklessly, that's my little boy. Besides, you don't seem to be lying.

Julianne sighed.

Julianne: And I suppose you brought him here hoping I would be able to help him.

Tiffany: Y... yeah.

Julianne: Hmph. I see.

Another moment of silence followed them.

Rose: E... Excuse me?

They all turned to Rose. No one expected her of all people to speak up. Her eyes had marks of dried tears.

Rose: Ummmm, Miss Hunter? I'm sorry for being rude, and about earlier.... It's just... I... I really need to know... Will Max be ok?

The strict glare in her eyes started to simmer as she saw their concerned faces. She was surprised to hear and to see that these children genuinely cared about her son.

Julianne: Max? He will be fine in a day or so.

Rose: Really?

Julianne: Yes.

They all collectively sighed in relief, especially Rose and Tiffany.

Luke: Phew. That's a relief.

Rose: Oh. Thank goodness, I was so worried.

Ken: Turns out my calculations were correct.

Tiffany: Yeah...

They could all begin to breathe more easily.

Julianne got up and looked at the clock.

Julianne: It's pretty late. You kids should stay the night.

Tiffany and Rose: Wha....

Luke: There's no need ma'am, I can....

Julianne: It's 2am in the morning. You are all covered in bruises and wounds, and you all seem to be tired.

Luke: But...

Julianne: No buts. I will call your parents and your principal and inform them of what happened.

Luke: But...

Julianne: No worries. I won't tell them about your powers.

Luke: No, it's not that. It's...

Julianne: No buts.

Julianne left the room and went upstairs.

Julianne: You can use the shower.

Her voice then trailed off.

The teens all looked at each other. No words needed to be said, and no mind link was necessary. "What the hell just happened?" was a feeling visible in all of their countenances.

They all took showers, and one by one were fully surprised to find blankets on the couches.

Ken: Even the mother is full of surprises.

Luke: Why is she doing this?

Tiffany: No idea. No idea at all.

They had their doubts, but they promptly fell asleep.
