21. The Pursuer

Max followed them silently in the night, taking advantage of traffic jam to get ahead, but always steering clear of their vision and rear view mirrors.

Tiffany, while in the truck, had begun to have a bad feeling.

Tiffany: Luke?

Luke: Yeah?

Tiffany: Are we being followed?

Luke looked at all of the driving mirrors one after the other.

Luke: Nope. I've been checking.

Tiffany: Tch.

Rose: Is something wrong?

Tiffany: Ugh. No, never mind. I just had an odd feeling, is all.

Ken: No need to worry, fearless leader. Besides, if someone does come after us, we'll just take them down.

Tiffany still looked as though she was bothered by that thought.

Rose: It's ok, Tiff. It'll be fine.

Tiffany: Yeah, I know, it's just... who was after you this morning?

Rose: You mean the car?

Tiffany: Yeah, do you remember what it looked like?

Rose: Welllll....

Rose could only remember Max.

Ken chuckled.

Rose: What?

Ken: She was too "distracted" to notice.

Rose: I was not!

Ken: Hahaha

Tiffany: Alright, alright... never mind all that. We'll figure it out later. Besides, chances are that our culprit will come after us again, so I want all of us to be on the lookout.

They all concurred as they drove across the road.

Max continued to follow them slowly.

It was getting late, but it wouldn't be the first time he was late back home, he thought.

That being said, he was starting to get concerned. They had been driving for a while, and the further they went, the fewer cars he saw on the road. Sooner or later, he might have to give up the chase, he thought.

The road they were driving in had become increasingly silent.

Traffic jams turned to a normal amount of cars before eventually turning to a lonely stretch of highway.

At that point, with nothing but a skateboard, Max could not keep up.

And at that point, he thought he could probably and should probably give up.

But he immediately decided, nah!

He was gonna go all out with this.

He got off his skateboard and, revealing it to be foldable, he hid underneath his jumper.

After that, he prepared to dash after them. Max ran at super speed, faster than anyone could see him.

Faster than anyone could follow, fast enough that no one could see him and fast enough that he was quite a bit faster than the van and so he would hid behind buildings, cars and such to avoid being seen.

This process continued for quite a while as the others completely failed to notice him.

They eventually entered a completely empty road. There were no cars around.

Max grew more and more suspicious. he could turn back, but no, his curiosity was too great.

It was an hour since they started, but the van finally stopped next to a bunch of warehouses.

Max continued to follow from a distance while munching on the treat.

Max: Warehouses? What are these guys?

They all walked out of the van. Max immediately noticed the katana on Tiffany's hand.

Max: (whisper) Woah!

Tiffany sighed.

Tiffany: Are you ready?

Luke cracked his knuckles.

Luke: Yeah.

Rose nodded.

Rose: Uh huh.

Ken: Naturally.

Tiffany: Alright. Ken? Scan the perimeter.

Ken: Right!

Ken's left eye turned red, and a blue light projected from his eye and moved around the area.

Max: (whisper) No way!

Max was shocked but not shocked enough to fail to realise that he would be discovered if he did not run away.

And so, he super sped to flee the scene before returning once the blue light had disappeared.

Ken: We're clear.

Tiffany: Phew. So it was a false alarm. My bad. Rose?

Rose: Right.

Rose walked away from the bunch for a while, seemingly looking for something.

Max: (whisper) What's she doing?

She eventually pointed to one of the warehouses.

Rose: There!

Tiffany: Alright. Luke?

Luke: On it.

Luke walked over to the building and, with a seemingly low amount of effort, opened the gate.

Max: (whisper) Woah! Luke is really strong.

The four of them walked into the warehouse. Max was still quite a distance away from them and couldn't see what was happening and so he cautiously walked towards them.

The inside of the warehouse was empty.

Rose: Down there!

Rose pointed to the floor.

Rose: I'm positive.

Tiffany: Alright. Luke, get ready!

Luke: Right!

Tiffany: How many are there?

Rose: A lot of them.

Tiffany: I see. Alright then. Luke?

Max didn't see what had happened, but he felt what was something of an earthquake that shook the entire area.

He rushed to the warehouse only to find a massive hole in the ground and loud sounds coming from down below.
