Extras: Preview- Official Guide Seothia

No records exist of the kingdom’s actual founding, or anything specific about its earlier days. It existed, in fragments, during the events of the Commandments, and sometime during or shortly after the Old Kings were established. Nearly every scholar acknowledges, though, that Seothia’s mixed reputation comes from the Old Kings. They, and the subjects under them, feared magic. They couldn’t understand it and nearly everyone in their kingdom had little hope of mastering it as the goblins and fairies could. To them, it was a danger—one that needed to be removed as soon as possible. Hunts were organized for the dragons and manticores residing within Seothia, their ichor and pelts becoming proud possessions of the nobility. The children of Fleyw Bresh, goblins, and fairies that had settled there found themselves mistreated, chased out, or killed. It grew into a hysteria, where any sign of magic dictated the need of dozens of soldiers, and even regular Seothians felt oppressed under their rulers—it wasn’t helped by the emerging awareness of the Skiá. When someone tried to stand up, soldiers were waiting to cut them down; if anyone dared directly oppose the king, their execution was the next spectacle the crowds would gather for. Seothia’s history becomes much clearer with the arrival of the Saint-King in 562. [https://i.imgur.com/SadId9G.png]

The southeastern region of Seothia, with its capital being Levi Asari. It’s currently overseen by Lady Samone, who also acts in the court as the Court Magister and Head of Public Affairs. Perhaps because of this, she spends most of her time within Mikkel territory and takes care of Jaden affairs remotely. The region takes up all of the Tillai Plateau as well as some forests and plains to the east of it and a few prominent beaches in the south. If there is any spot in Seothia to be romanticized, it’s Jaden territory, starting with its wild roses to the reputation it gained after the Saint-King’s Rebellion. It’s seen as the perfect example of what favor from the throne could do—how the executioner who spared Saint-King Lucas went on to control an entire region in his new Seothia. The arts find a home here, from theatrics to musical performances, and nobles flock there in order to experience what seems like the peak of talent. Many of Seothia’s magic users gravitate there, as well, as the region is generally seen as accepting (compared to some of the others) and the Lysha have shown not to discriminate. It has had a few notable Skiá incidents through the years, though most are credited to the groups in question being in a poorly-guarded area; most towns and many popular places like theaters have regular patrols to try to prevent large-scale incidents. Given the overall seclusive nature of Rymbai Territory, it’s become the “base” of sorts for an organization known as Adidell. While they have a few notably good goals—such as attempting to make advances in medicine and technology—it is all the means to a darker end: what it would take to get rid of magic once and for all. The foundation of the organization is rooted in the Saint-King’s Rebellion, when nobles in northern Seothia agreed with Saint-King Lucas’s terms while still firmly believing in the old kings. At first, they were nothing more than disgruntled nobles; soon enough, however, they realized that they must “reclaim the glory” of Old Seothia, and the dangerous magic the kingdom was coming to accept. Oftentimes, one cannot just “join” Adidell. Nearly all of its members already had family within the organization, or at least had their roots within Northern Seothian beliefs and values. Being a member requires unquestionable loyalty to Adidell’s ideals, as they are not averse to using more violent ways to take care of problematic individuals. Anyone who tries to share too much information outside of the group is often considered a threat and eliminated. [https://i.imgur.com/Lsha6GT.png]

Some quickly found previews for Seothia's section in the Official Guide to The Butterfly Effect. At present, I intend to release the guide either for free or very cheap ($1-2), and it will include a lot of details about The Butterfly Effect's world, from each of the nations to the gods to magic. I plan on releasing the full thing by the end of the year, as nearly all of it is written, and I've completed a good deal of the necessary art pieces.

Like always, what's shown in these previews is subject to change prior to the final release.
