The broken dungeon core
Rumors, residents, and monsters

Rumors, residents, and monsters

The days seem to have passed quickly as various things happened.

Tina and Daisy both registered as my dungeon inhabitants and unlocking the seamstress position they were wanting which they both immediately put to work as they focused on making apparel for the winter dance.

The rest of the squirrels became dungeon squirrels and I also made it to the mana threshold for getting my breeder!

I will also have the biomass in just a couple of days so I don’t have to rush and absorb my plants for immediate biomass.

I might be swayed by a romantic rumor that I heard the mothers talking about, apparently babies conceived on the day of the four seasons dances are born extra lucky as they seem to have fewer miscarriages.

Tina believes it quite heavily as both of her surviving children were conceived on the day of the seasonal dances and she plans to try again as she misses having little ones around.

Tina even made a joke that it would be magical if both she and her daughter were to both conceive on the same day and possibly even give birth together as well.

Tammy seems nervous about this but she forces herself to laugh along and agreeing that really would be magical.

Samson seems to have overheard the ladies talking in the kitchen and he runs off excitedly as he returns to working on his own outfit for the winter dance as well as preparing some sort of gift for his desired partner.

I have already relocated the Hunter’s family with their hallway to the medicinal garden room being spaced as much as one of the cooking stations is long, from the other two families hallway.

I even moved the rest of my inhabitants that were single into a new hallway that has each of their improved living quarters alternating between which side of the hallway their room is on and I will move them again if they partner up with someone else.

The Woofer’s are set on leaving and they opted to not move simply to avoid having to move again afterwards.

They will be taking all of their possessions in a few trips as they will take two clothing chests full of items in the first trip as well as four backpacks full of items and a couple baskets.

Harvey will come back for the other two clothing chests and refill his backpack each time until all of their belongings have been moved to the Barkley’s camp.

In the meantime we will be using the old rooms for the new residents that are soon to arrive so I have spruced them up a little having decided to make them raised beds a making shelves in their temporary space.

Before I can follow back up with the conversation in the kitchen I get another well welcomed notification!

[Congratulations, your rabbits have mutated into dungeon rabbits! Dungeon rabbits prefer the mountain, woodland and grassland types of environments and they are more likely to gain the earth, nature and wind traits when they are raised in the appropriate environments.]

[Warning, dungeon monsters are protective of the dungeon core and will see non-inhabitants as intruders. Make sure to take measures to prevent conflict]

[Congratulations, your raccoon has mutated into a dungeon raccoon! Dungeon raccoons prefer woodland and wetland environments and they have a higher chance of gaining the shadow, earth, water or nature traits if they are raised in the right conditions.]

[Warning, dungeon monsters are protective of the dungeon core and will see those who have not registered as dungeon inhabitants as intruders, Make sure to take measures to prevent conflict in your dungeon.]

Of course I share the news and I head over to inspect their changes!

Again they all got the same blue colored eyes and all of them got improved claws and fur which is nice but somewhat boring now as that seems to be the most common changes for newly mutated dungeon monsters.

I can’t wait for them to level up and acquire elemental traits, hopefully they will have more variety to the changes if they can get different elements.

Now all that’s left are the couple of chickens and the deer, which is definitely taking longer to mutate as the deer were among the first animals acquired but they look like they are going to be the last ones to mutate into dungeon monsters.

In the meantime another trade trip was made and returned with some of the new residents and their first round of belongings.

They are the CorviDae family, which are avid-beast-kin, that have many bird like traits.

Their hands have talons and are scaly until the upper arm and the legs are very similar again up to the thigh.

They have feathers and they have wings on their backs as well as feathered tails which does allow them some degree of flight.

All of the ones that have arrived to drop off their belongings are male and they plan to do a couple of trips before the whole group arrives.

I ended up having to add more rooms in a cluster as apparently they will be staying together as a flock.

The oldest of the group and supposedly the father of the group seems to be Talon, who has glossy black feathers and a sharp beak like nose and dark black eyes.

His brother, Magnus, has a smaller stature and some white bands on his feathers.

And his sons, Karmon, and Jay, have solid black feathers and blue, black, and white patterned feathers respectively.

Luna explained that Avids and a few other species are beasts kin sometimes have a possibility of genetic randomness where their offspring may have the traits of the origin beasts relative species rather then the exact same breed although the chances of them being the same increases if both parents are the same breed of beast-kin.

So from my understanding a crow and a crow would be more likely to have offspring that are also crows but still have a possibility of having a raven, but a raven and a crow could end up with offspring of any species of Corvids!

That also helps explain why the Woofers were similar but were different breeds of dog beast-kin.

Although cases of the parents of similar species having offspring that are a hybridization of their origin beast traits, breeding with a beast-kin of another species altogether will almost certainly show both of the parents traits blended.

Also even though beast-kin aren’t fully bound by their origin beasts diet they do usually have their favorite foods all among the foods that their beasts relations would have in their diets.

So the CorviDae family has happened to bring over one of their insect farms that happened to be one of the conflict sources that had them choose to leave the Barkley’s camp, as not many people are willing to share housing arrangements with people who keep bugs for food.

Even though they aren’t the only kind of beast-kin that are insectivores they are the only residents of the village who were, ever since the family of woodpecker type of beast-kin moved to a neighboring village.

These new residents seem to have noticed that I’m a dungeon because of the mana and airflow within my dungeon, shortly after entering the kitchen.

Luna is quick to pick up on the conversation and explains the situation, from my willingness to help everyone out with whatever I can, to the registration as dungeon inhabitants with positions and of course the issue of dungeon monsters being territorial against non-inhabitants.

The CorviDae family seems to understand and they plan to register as a family once they have finished moving in as they don’t believe that there is any significant issue with regards to registering as dungeon inhabitants especially if they are planning to live here through the winter.

They settled in for the night in their new living space as they will head back for the next round of belongings in the morning and while they are at it they have thrown out the offer to assist the Woofer’s in taking their belongings to the Barkley’s camp since they would both be heading that way anyway.

I look forward to seeing the other new residents especially since it seems like they will be joining as dungeon inhabitants once they do!

I am also curious about if the different types of bugs they bring are able to become dungeon monsters as well or not.

I might see about offering mana grass to feed the bugs just to see what happens.

Luna and I talked happily about the new residents and their potential to unlock new positions as the adults apparently met each other in a dungeon and they were adventurers before settling down and raising a family together.

Not only that but Talon’s wife Stella has worked as a merchant and all of them have farmed their own bugs for their own food sources as well as farming their favorite seeds, fruits and nuts!

They hold a high level of importance over family, food, hunting and trinkets as they have been influenced strongly by their beast traits in those areas.

So there’s a good chance that they have different qualities that would open positions that I haven’t unlocked yet.

And Luna seems to be happy that there’s going to be more girls coming here as she thinks Stella’s daughters and sister might be helpful in supporting Tammy’s recovery as well as giving the current guys other girls to chase.

I wasn’t the only one who caught Tammy’s awkward laughter earlier and Luna seems to be noticing that Tammy has been going through a lot of chamomile, lavender, passion flower, and valerian root lately and she seems to be putting the pieces together finally.

Luna, “I am starting to think that Tammy’s not doing as well as she seems to be, she has been going to the private kitchen a lot lately and she has been going through the calming herbs faster than I think is normal.”

I responded with a huge lump of clay as I tried to emphasize that she’s on the right track and that Tammy is by no means alright.

Even though I have been doing my best to help her, I am unfortunately unable to help as much as someone who could talk to her and comfort her properly.

Which is why I have continued trying to get Luna to catch Tammy and give her the proper attention and support she needs, but I still haven’t been successful in getting her there in time.

Luna now seems to realize that I have been trying to get her to help Tammy with all those times that I have led her to the private kitchen where Tammy would be or had been just before she got there.

Luna, “So, that’s why you kept leading me to our private kitchen.

You were trying to get me to help Tammy?

But she always seemed to have just been there to calm down or relax with some tea, maybe even just her trying to get some time to herself after dealing with others….

She even said so!?!

What are we going to do?

We can’t actually help her if she doesn’t want help, or at least be willing to let us know that she needs help in the first place.”

I agree with more clay and I try to convey what I have been doing to try helping her out with everything that I can assist her with and Luna seems to get the picture.

Luna, “Thank you for trying to help her out, I am sure she really appreciates it, but I still think she needs to talk to someone about it and she might need to have more time away from the guys, since being around them seems to be stressful for her right now.

Maybe I should see about getting all the girls together for activities that can help her get more time away from the guys.

Having her socialize with other females might help her destress and she might decide to open up about what she’s going through…..hopefully.”

I agree again with her as I press another lump of clay into her hand before re absorbing it like I always do.

It’s really late when Luna finally drifts off to sleep as some of our later conversations became difficult to understand with her practically mumbling everything and I had to tuck her in multiple times to get her to finally just go to sleep.

I really like it when she talks to me but I prefer it when I can understand what she’s talking about in the first place so I can respond properly.

But, I can’t say that I don’t like her occasionally acting this way as it’s interesting to see how different her behavior can vary depending upon her state and what’s going on.

I wonder what all I will get to see when the dance that everybody is looking forward to comes.
