Activities for the girls, winter decorations

The morning was met with the hustle and bustle of the Woofer’s moving out and the CorviDae family assisting them with gathering up and carrying their belongings as they leave as a group.

They left with a light meal that they could eat on the go and short farewells that promised to see each other again.

Luna went ahead and decided to start gathering the girls up including the children and proposed that until the day of the winter dance once the daily tasks are completed that they would work on the decorations for the event, the outfits for the dance, or other things that might help make the event more lively.

Everyone seems to like the idea especially with the mother daughter bonding that this will provide.

Some decorative baskets for the foods that will be able to be placed in them and some macramé and woven vines would become the primary wall decorations.

Which I have decided to add to with stone hooks to hold them up in place and making stalagmites and stalactites with glowing moss along the walls that will complement the decorative pieces they make.

They work on the decorations for the kitchen first and there is talk about which room to make for the actual dance to be held in.

But since I am planning to make the dance room later today as I have gotten into the rhythm of when the itch hits and how much I should build to get my fix.

I won’t be doing it all at once as I have worked on taking over the space I plan on putting it, as it’s going to be connected to the greenhouse and the medicinal garden as well as my pathway to the river so it will have plenty of space.

I have also started splitting fire ferns and glow moss whenever the plants are ready to split and I have also been planting the seeds of pretty much all of the plants that are producing them.

Since I want the place lit up nicely with light I even found out how to get the luminous mushrooms to spread, apparently their mycelium needs fertilizer and water to spread and multiply.

So, I have been playing around with how to go about it and I have made slopes and nooks that have a moist moss at the top and dripping down onto the luminescent mushrooms that I planted on loamy soil with fertilizer provided to feed them.

After a few attempts I have established more than I thought I would and I have started planting some individual ones in the hallways as lighting and decoration.

Things seem to be coming along nicely as I have planted many seeds in my gardens and I have many flowers in bloom while also having plenty of produce being produced as they are in an endless cycle of flowering and producing without being halted with the usual winter reset.

Because of the constant flow of produce increasing as more seeds get planted and grow to produce even more, we are now having to preserve some of the food as it otherwise would be impossible to get to it all.

This is opening up new opportunities for trade with the other two camps, we will be collecting more jars from the other camps, filling them with jams, jellies, and marmalades.

The fresh produce will be sold by the basket and the preserves will be by the jars to trade for whatever our camp needs.

Rimmy and Greg are planning on going to the camp on the other side of the river as they have found a good place to cross without too much trouble even though they have to back track a little.

If things go according to plans they should be able to leave early and get back late.

They are hoping to see how that camp is doing and if they need to send some people this way we will be happy to have them especially if they can come before the winter dance.

As everyone is hoping for more people to come and participate as it’s supposed to be a lively event with food, music, entertainment and dancing all into the night.

The more the merrier they say as my residents talk about taking turns singing and playing music for each other so everyone can have a turn dancing.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Even the cooks will take turns keeping the food and drinks table clean and with plenty of things to eat and drink, so it won’t run out during the dance.

The excitement for the festivities seems to increase as preparations are made and completed in stages.

The men are particularly vigorous with excitement as they hunt for particular furs to make not just clothing but also bedding and rugs.

Some of the men who know a little about carving also carve not just wood but also deer antlers into decorative jewelry for them to present to their partners or to decorate their rooms.

A little after most everyone had their lunch, the CorviDae family returned with more of their belongings and a couple more insect farms which the brother will stay and care for.

The rest flew back down the mountain to the Barkley’s camp as they plan to bring the children with their next trip first thing in the morning.

Dave and Greg’s old rooms ended up being the temporary location for the insect farms as the location would be convenient for when the CorviDae’s cook with them, and they will only be using the fireplace and cooking station that is the closest to the insect farms to avoid complicating things.

Magnus joined the guys for a short hunt before dark and to work on their own preparations for the winter dance and it’s other possible activities as they put it.

They seem to doge some of the younger children’s questions about what they were preparing for as they respond with “You will know when you are older.”

Everyone seems to be getting along well with each other and the overall mood in the dungeon is pretty happy and excite able.

Even fairly late into the night some individuals were still active in their rooms.

That trend seemed to follow into the next day with only a brief period of quiet before morning came and those who had slept earlier got up and started their morning routine’s.

Tina baked bread in a clay pot on the fire and Daisy filed the breads with freshly made fruit jams for everyone as the men would wake up and take the quick meal with them out on their hunts.

Apparently it’s more for materials for the winter festivities than for stocking up on meat as we already have a good supply in the kitchens iceboxes.

Sometimes I don’t seem to really understand why they do some of the things that they do, but I don’t mind it and I find myself enjoying it as I join in assisting them whenever they ask.

The girls have been talkative and are working on clothing today, from warm fur coats, boots, and dresses to jewelry.

I am looking forward to surprising them with the room I am crafting for them to use for their dance, as I am slowly opening up the space and I will connect the hallways to it just before they start trying to turn an existing room into the dance room.

I am even already putting plants in there to decorate it as I make use of the fire ferns and frost ferns as well as glowing moss and luminescent mushrooms all over the room and I scoured through my dungeon plant database for an assortment of flowering plants to add as if I were addicted to the task.

I find flowering vines of all sorts to go up along the pillars supporting the room much like the greenhouse except I am going to add a secondary floor that can look down at the dance floor.

I think I will add a hallway that will connect closer to the kitchen as I will have this upstairs location of the room reserved for the people to come eat away from the dancing but they will still be able to watch the others dancing.

I also make a few sections below for the music and singing to be performed and a section for the talent show based off of what I think might be needed from what I have seen the others practicing.

I also put a couple of benches for people who need to rest between rounds of dancing or whoever might be waiting for a dance partner, as apparently the ladies start out sitting as the men come up to them and invite them to the dance floor.

The ladies have the option of accepting or declining the invitation but it’s not that common as every time they decline someone it becomes less likely that someone else will risk asking.

This is because being declined makes them move back in order of asking for a partner, which is why the married couples go first followed by the hopeful bachelors and then the children finishing up with the unfortunate ones who failed their first dance request.

This one is supposed to be a little different in that once the married couples have their dance they will switch to being singers and musicians for the younger couples.

Also since the parents don’t want the children to interrupt the individual’s who go off for alone time everyone who goes off will take turns and will return until the children are all to bed.

I have started trying to mimic some of the etiquette for the dance that I have seen the others practice as well as attempting to preform as a dance partner.

Daisy and the hunter as well as Tina and Tom ended up as my reference material as I practiced.

I exposed my dungeon flesh and I branched it and bound two different tendrils together having the base of each act as legs that go up and twist together as they spread out together to make a torso and then two branches formed arms then a bundle coiled up to make a sort of head.

I have no choice but to admit it looks bad, I don’t think I could win any aesthetic contest in concern of looks, but I am at least passable in functionality.

I can’t actually step like a person would but after several attempts I have managed sliding the surface of the dungeon floor around my tendrils as I move them around.

There is a travel limit and there is the issue of them getting tangled up with my other tendrils but I have come up with a solution of retracing my tendrils and having the ones in the next section recreate my dancing figure to continue onward.

I really just want to get faster at doing it so that I can have it continue onward and match Luna’s usual walking pace and maybe a little faster just in case.

After all I want this dance to go well and be a night to remember for years to come!
