The broken dungeon core
Reorganizing and harvesting

Reorganizing and harvesting

The morning is met with the itch to expand nagging at me again and I decided to move Luna’s family into a new area of the dungeon.

I chose to expand the second floor level right under their current living area and give them an upgraded living quarters that would connect to the new room that spreads out under my core room.

I provided them each a room with a shelf and a raised bed where I moved their current bedding onto, followed by putting their clothing chest down at the foot end of the bed.

I moved some glowing moss to the room where the three bedrooms meet, so now both of Rocky and Misty have their own room instead of having to share and their stuff that was having to be placed in the shared storage space for their family is now in their own rooms.

I make a nook in each of the rooms that I will put some glowing moss later when I can split more off the other plants, but it will be suitable for now and it’s clearly an improvement over their previous rooms as it’s more than doubled their living quarters.

The hallway from their living quarters curves downward to connect to the medicinal garden as I have taken to calling it.

I plan to move my other inhabitants moved down here as well and I’m going to convert the old rooms to be used for other purposes.

The Coons old living space is now going to be used for the animals so I opened it up by making their sleeping rooms merge with their living and storage space.

Then I give the animals more room in their pens where as I add a shelf to store their feed and I create a water trough to keep the water and mana grass mixture in.

I even decided to split the larger mana grass plants and put them in planter nooks in the wall to help raise the mana level in the room as well as provide a quick harvest location dedicated solely for the animals use.

It will probably take a couple more days to see if the animals internal mana reserves have increased but The Hunter seems very confident that the method of feeding them mana grass and water will improve their chances of converting to monsters even faster than just moving them closer to my core.

With my expansion itch fixed for now I decided to move some of my plants around as my first floor hallway is completely lined with planters and the same can be said for the second room.

The second room that houses the washroom and the toilets on the side closer to my core room and an large open space that branches out into the different living areas of the Fellis’s family, the Hunter’s family, the Woofer’s family, and the three younger single individuals.

I decided to keep the fire ferns in the hallway and the second room for now but I go ahead and split the ones that are ready and put them in the greenhouse room and the medicinal garden room so as to help with the lighting and heating of those rooms.

The plants that produce food have their planters moved to the greenhouse room while the plants that have medical properties are moved to the medicinal garden room.

I realize that I haven’t been planting many plants that don’t have information of having any specific purpose like food or medical properties or vines that can be woven in various useful things but I think that I might start in earnest after I get the more important things taken care of first.

I left the vines in the wall space and just spread out the ones that needed more space to keep growing, they help keep the place looking nice and they are in good reach for Tammy to collect for her weaving.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

Tammy has her brother and the young men assisting her when she needs to collect more vines as her parents are encouraging her to get out and do somethings every couple of days now.

From what Tammy told me last night her parents are thinking about having her get out every day soon since she seems to be doing a lot better around the guys then she had been before.

I also caught her parents taking about if she could have a child with some she likes it might help her get over her fears since she has been spending a lot more time around the young children.

Tammy had started making some woven toys for the children like vine dolls and woven crowns for the girls and woven sword belts and shields for the boys which the boys would have to find their own stick swords to pair with them.

She has been steadily improving her techniques and increasing the number of different types of things that she can weave, as she seriously accomplishes her own goals for weaving and accumulating rewards for herself.

Because of my low dungeon level she doesn’t really get anything impressive from my dungeon loot system but she does get more vines that have particular traits such as being thinner or more elastic than others or even carrying a nice scent.

She is now trying to use the loot vines to make more delicate items including hats and a vine version of chain mail.

I catch Luna coming through and I show her the things I changed and I also encouraged her to get the plants that are full of ripe foods harvested.

Luna was happy to oblige as she gathered the people from the kitchen and they went down to the greenhouse room to harvest the first major harvest since they arrived.

Luna had been harvesting in moderation prior but since the greenhouse effects were quite effective with the availability of fertilizer and the year around growing effect making the yield much greater than before.

Although I had planted most of the plants right before I had leveled up, the effects have gotten the fastest growing plants ready to harvest already.

Now that these plants have grown to the point of being ready to harvest from they will start to regrow whatever has been harvested right away.

This means that harvesting from the plants more regularly will produce more food than the people in my dungeon can consume it, and to avoid too much waste they must preserve it or they must send it to a other camps.

I don’t really mind the food going to waste since it’s a sure way to accumulate biomass, but the villagers seem to really value food a lot and they aren’t okay with food being allowed to spoil.

Harvey Woofer and the Hunter were selected to go trade the extra food for things like milk, cheese, and a couple of chickens that might lay eggs on occasion.

Since the Barkley’s managed to get all their farm animals out they surely would have the resources they would be asking for and fresh fruit and vegetables would be good for barging especially if they promise more to be delivered for the Winter Festival.

It’s not often that such fresh produce is available during the Winter Festival but when it is it’s highly valued for the festival cooks that want to make an impression during this time.

They have even paid nearly a ransom’s worth to the rare winter traveling merchant who would occasionally come through from warmer regions that grow winter season crops.

So surely the produce would be warmly received and the desired goods would be offered in exchange.

They both head out before midday with a backpack and two woven baskets each, all loaded up with produce, some that were already in the kitchen and the rest that they had just harvested.

If all goes well then they should be returning just as nightfall starts getting too dark to see, since they will be sticking to the deeper parts of the woods the whole way to the hidden glade and back they will be able to use a lantern on the way back without much worry.

Rimmy and Greg talk about what news they might bring back since our camp hasn’t noticed any activity from the bandits up this way it’s likely that the other camps have more information about what’s going on.

Dave also throws out the possibility that they might end up coming back with more people if the other camps were struggling with food shortages or lacking space and other supplies since none of them managed to finish securing all their originally planned supplies because of the Ramingtons betrayal.

I am excited at the prospect of more inhabitants coming here so I almost hope that even if there is no shortage that maybe someone curious about our ability to procure fresh produce will come, or maybe even a cooking enthusiasts that just wants access to fresh ingredients would be great for us.

I wonder if Luna would be able to convince them into the dungeon cook position, as I’m sure they would be able to get better benefits from cooking with the food that I have grown.

I can hardly wait for their return just to find out everything.
