Record K128 – 13, from the Historical Museum of Sarataga City, of the Demnatras Kingdom

Record written by General Researcher of Historical Figures, Dr. ██████ ███████.

Spring, Year 3723 of the Goat, by the Calander of Laifer’an

The information within this Record is an excerpt from a trader’s journal. Presumed to be written by one of the first humans to attempt trade with the newly established Kobold refugee zone. Rumored as the first city of the Kobolds, founded as one of the first decrees of Her Highness, The Immortal Holy Empress, She Who Dances with the Sky.

Original name of the first city of the Kobolds, still unconfirmed.

Name of original author is unknown; date of writing is unknown. Presumed to date back anywhere from two to three thousand years ago and matching with current speculation for historical timelines.

Immortals continue to be unhelpful in providing information pertaining to this time in history, even with this journal put forward as evidence. Suspicions of compelled silence by a higher authority are being further accredited.

The journal was discovered and purchased in the auction of a deceased Noble’s estate sale. Condition of the journal leaves it barely legible and is writing in Old English, helping to confirm the credibility of this discovery.

What follows is a section pertaining to the founding of the Great Kobold Empire.

May She Who Dances with the Sky rule eternal.

----------------------------------------

Within the western expansion, there is now a city. Admittedly, it is a small city, more of a town whose population doesn’t even reach ten thousand. But for the people that live there, it is blatantly clear that to them, it is already the greatest city that their people have known for many generations. For the first time, since a time of a lost number of generations ago, as I have learned, the Kobolds have come together under a single leader. A single ruler. An Empress.

It has been only a short while since the city was founded, built into the remains of an old town, a section of highway cutting through the middle of town, and abandoned farmland surrounding everything on all sides except for a section of forest. The great walls built by the ████ cut through these fields and pastures, running until they disappear back into the direction of the █████ ███████. The Kobolds can often be found marveling at them, listening as humanity continues to fight off the monstrosity that siege us on the other side. The sounds of ███ ████ and the explosions of ███████ and █████████, a constant backdrop to everyday life. Something that the Kobold quickly grew used to with time. Especially as the stop of the noise would signal that it is safe to go out and retrieve the corpses of the many monsters that would be lying outside the walls. The Kobolds -from what I have learned- have never had such easy access to so much free food. Though, with the growing winter, the monsters have blessedly begun to grow lazy and tired. Many of them presumably deciding to rest through the winter season. Not that this will affect the Kobolds. They have already stockpiled every scrap of flesh that they could salvage from the monster. By the time they finish clearing the killing fields, there is little left to be had. Meat, bone, hide, claws, teeth, and furs. They take it and happily use it all in their trades. Even the few ███████ and ██████ that they find are used in their crafts, the copper and lead being highly valued by their people. The Kobolds are experiencing prosperity.

The new city itself, a gathering of nine Kobold tribes, is slowly being born from these remains. The tents, blankets, tarps, and other materials provided by the ████ and earned through trade, being put to great use in order to turn old building into homes and businesses. From the trees that grow everywhere, tarps would be hung and tied to buildings, tents used as extra rooms, and wood and nail used to expand the front of houses and old businesses into trading stalls for passing customers. Even the few abandoned ████ and ██████ that still litter the roads have been incorporated into the mass that is this newly growing civilization. In a matter of weeks, the old buildings of humanity have taken on a new life as they are slowly transformed into a mix of colorful yurts, built as expansions to our old buildings. Their new structures climbing upward and outward in every direction as they incorporate the nearby trees into their build.

Within these newly made structures, multiple families call them home. Mothers raise their infant pups together in groups, often taking turn in caring for the young. Traders will man their stalls built facing the roads and atop the roofs of building – those built higher up being only intended for trade amongst the Kobolds with those at ground level being aimed towards us humans – while gangs of the young Kobolds which I learned are called ‘yet to be named’ run about and play, racing across freshly made rope bridges that stretch from building to building as they get yelled at by the adults.

The Kobolds first city continues to grow as they incorporate any materials that they can get their hands on. Constantly adding to and weaving in more colors and layers into the fabric of their new homes. From the bridges hang colorful trinkets from length of fabric of varying colors. They clink together as the Kobolds cross the bridges and shine in the light in ways that catch the eye.

This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.

Every time that I come to visit this place, to trade with their vendors and try to learn their ways, I find that the city has grown yet again like a colorful ameba of cloth and wood and life. It is a beautiful sight, and I find myself to be growing more and more enamored by these people and the way they live.

Everything, from the homes to the lights, to the store fronts full of oddities, to the crisscrossing bridges, to even the multicolored people themselves that call this place home. All of it comes together to create a spider’s web of colorful chaos and movement. A slowly growing rainbow of activity, which continues to move and spread as the inhabitants excitedly work even through the cold of winter.

The winter seems to bother them little. The fires of the many hearths keep their bodies warm as they move about, while pride keeps their hearts warm as they busily build their first city in honor to their Empress.

She is a figure that is proudly depicted all throughout the city. Carved into the side of trees and walls, or sewn into the tapestries that make up their colorful yurts. Whittled into little figures and statuettes to be sold from the many stalls, or even as the grand centerpiece that rests in the heart of their colorful city. A statue of size and scale that can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, from any window that would face the heart and from any bridge that crosses a major road. The city itself was seemingly designed for the purpose of surrounding this statue. Like many stands of yarn wrapped about a central post and then tied off in all directions.

Carved from the tallest tree they could find and worked on by many of the most skilled hands of the collective villages, this statue was one of the first projects of these people. Its completion seemingly even put forward as a priority before even that of making homes. Many of those who worked on its construction slept at the base of the statue until the day it was complete. Working form morning till night and never leaving its side.

The statue is an immense thing of stature and color. The depiction is simply of a beautiful woman, but the craftsmanship brings a life to wood that is undeniable. She stands straight with her hands clasped before her chest. Long flowing hair and a tail runs from down her back and wrapping around her feet to the base of the statue. Her horns hang with shining trinkets reminiscent of diamonds from how they shine in the light and her face is full of love as she looks down at all who would stand before her.

The statue itself is dressed in colorful robes, sewn together by the people in order to dress her in the colors of her gathered peoples. And finally, resting atop her head is a crown of bone, a large replica painstakingly carved to match the one that rests upon the Empress’s own head.

The Empress herself is even more beautiful in person. I have only ever managed to see her from afar, but her beauty is simply without comparison. Even as a human, I find myself to be enraptured by her appearance. For this reason alone, it is easy to the understand why it is that her people love her.

I long for the day that I might be able to meet and talk with her. But alas, she is always under constant guard from her warriors who proudly escort her through her new lands. I little fear the Kobolds, but I have no doubt that the warriors would spear me should they decide me to be a threat. It is for this reason that I have taken to try and find a way to be introduced to her through another person.

Regretfully, even if I should find my chance to introduce myself to her. She is already called for by another. Her lover, ████, as I have learned to be her name, is quite the frightful person. Just as often as it would be her guards, her lover can often be found by her side, escorting her as if on a date though the town, be it the Kobold’s city or ███████ amongst humanity.

On one occasion, when they happened to be walking through the area where I live, I had hoped to use this as an opportunity to introduce myself, seeing as they were without their guard. I believed this to my lucky chance. I had barely made to cross the street before the eyes of her lover, the █████, had turned to me. A mere glance alone was enough for me to know that I would surely die if tried to approach and interrupt them. I had witnessed some of the power that she holds. I was there on that day when she ███████████████████████████, when the █████████ ███████████████████████████████████████████████.

I will never be able to forget that feeling in my soul. And I will never be able to allow my affections for Empress Sky to grow beyond – - - -
