“That’s like giving up our souls, there is absolutely no way we will be doing that," Enancia said with a growl.
Ryzen agreed but wasn’t nearly as worried. If it truly came to it, he could always tamper with his status. Thankfully, he hadn’t mentioned this detail to anyone so no one was aware of his broken skill.
Unfortunately, Marilee did not seem to like this response as she pulled a sword from her waist and pointed it at both Ryzen and Enancia.
“I wasn’t asking,” she hissed.
Enancia looked like she wanted to fight back but Ryzen knew she couldn’t. He doubted she would have faked her abilities for this long, especially when she was being assaulted.
Ryzen instinctively took a step in front of Enancia and glared at Marilee, “I can show you mine if it makes you feel better and I can attest that Enancia is not powerful enough to be a threat. Showing her status is purely up to her and you will not force her to do so.”
Marilee looked pissed but she hesitated all the same and slowly withdrew her sword, “That is somewhat… acceptable but if she tries anything I won’t hesitate.”
Ryzen nodded and brought up a fake status that vastly underestimated his strength and hid his secrets.

Ryzen was forced to keep his class and skills the same as he was not sure what other classes had or looked like. He doubted anyone would figure out his disguise skill but he still didn’t want to risk it. Unfortunately, as soon as Marilee saw his status, her jaw dropped and Ryzen knew he had messed up. Enancia’s reaction wasn’t much better as she was visibly shocked at what she was seeing.
“You… You are too strong!” Marilee cried and stumbled backward.
“Alex, what are you?” Enancia asked as she pulled Ryzen to face her.
“Uh, an assassin?” he asked calmly. Despite this, he was currently freaking out. He had messed up big time!
“Um, no you aren’t. You’re stats are already nearing a C tiers and you’re only level fifteen. That just… isn’t possible.” Enancia shook her head.
“Uh, well it is for me?” Ryzen said.
Unfortunately, Enancia continued to point out various oddities with his status. Apparently, he had too many stats, skills, and had even already leveled up one. It had not seemed that difficult to Ryzen but apparently, it was a big deal.
Marilee warily observed their conversation and it was made exceedingly clear that she did not trust Ryzen nor Enancia. Jarek seemed to be in his own world and Ryzen doubted if he even saw his status.
“Alex, we will continue this conversation later. For now, I was wondering if we are able to go in?” Enancia pointed towards the small town that was set up.
Marilee was worried but managed to keep a level head. She had originally thought that besides Venis, everyone else was weaker than her. Now, she had met someone who was the same strength and thirty levels under her. She didn’t trust these people but it was true that Alex would be a huge boon for them if he joined. She just hoped he wasn’t a traitor.
As if reading her mind, Ryzen said, “I have nowhere to go. I have already killed countless vampires. I think it is safe to say that nothing I do can save my reputation with them.”
Finally, Marilee groaned and gave up, “Fine, I will allow you to stay here in Marikon but if I hear of any trouble from you two then there will be hell to pay. Got it?”

Both Enancia and Ryzen nodded and proceeded to follow Marilee into the town. Jarek followed as well, not doing a single thing to hide the massive grin on his face.
Marilee stopped at a small inn and motioned for them to go in, “This will be where you stay for right now. If you prove yourself to be trustworthy then more permanent arrangements can be made.”
She started to walk away but hesitated and spoke once more, “I ask that you don’t betray us. We have countless children and families that we take care of. We live in harmony here and that’s something rare these days.”
Enancia rolled her eyes but froze when Ryzen nodded, “I swear that no harm will come to you from our way.”
She hadn’t expected him to comply like that. These were dark times and such often brought out the worst in people. She didn’t exactly think Alex was evil but she certainly didn’t think he was a good person with a good heart. He hardly showed any emotion at all!
Marilee also looked surprised as she nodded her head and left. She wouldn’t admit it but Ryzen’s statement improved her impression of him greatly.
Ryzen and Enancia walked inside the inn and thankfully, this one seemed to be much more in tune with their life style.
“Yall are new round here. Yall need a room?” a homey woman spoke from behind a wooden desk.
Ryzen immediately interjected and said, “Two, please. She’ll pay.”
The woman seemed to understand and eagerly looked to Enancia for payment. She was secretly annoyed that Ryzen was so quick to ask for two rooms but ultimately, she would have done it anyway.
Enancia paid and they each went to their separate rooms. After giving him a few moments to get settled in, Enancia immediately appeared at Ryzen’s door and he opened it with a sigh.
“We need to discuss your status,” Enancia said bluntly.
“Don’t feel like it,” Ryzen rebutted. Enancia was having none of this and pushed herself in his room and closed the door.
“I don’t care, that is too crazy. Do you truly not understand the significance of what you showed us?”
Ryzen groaned, “I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t this. I had no clue I was this abnormal.”
“Beyond abnormal. Your stats are just… crazy. Almost like the…” Enancia said but stopped.
“Almost like the what?” Ryzen asked curiously.
“The humans of the old world. When they used to rule.” Enancia said quietly.
“What?” Ryzen asked, barely hiding his excitement. This was knowledge he hadn’t known.
“It’s true. The humans used to host a plethora of overpowered classes. They were… unstoppable.” Enancia said with a shudder.
“What happened with them?” Ryzen quickly added, desperate for more information.
“Well, nobody quite knows. It is said that they had some sort of internal conflict… Anyways why do you even wanna know all this? You’re not human, you can’t have any of their classes!”
“No reason,” Ryzen lied, refusing to give Enancia any information.
“Fuck you!” she screamed, having enough of him. She stormed out of his room and Ryzen could hear her slam her door shut.
Truthfully, he was a little shocked that she had gotten so angry. He had decided not to tell her anything because she hated humans and he decided to stick to it. There was no future for them together and he would certainly not try to force it. Also, now that they were in a much safer place, he was planning on leaving her here. He was no longer her responsibility and he could finally be done with his one poor choice of saving her.
He didn’t necessarily regret doing so but he was becoming tired of her antics. He felt it was his responsibility to get her somewhere safe and now that he did, he would once again be able to go solo. After everything that he had done to her, Ryzen didn’t doubt that she would agree.
With this, he went to bed, already planning what his next move would be.
Ryzen awoke to soft knocks at his door and he dragged himself out of bed. He quickly pulled something over his body to dress himself and opened the door to groveling Enancia.
“I’m sorry!” Enancia quickly shouted as she refused to make eye contact.
“No need. Now that we have gotten somewhere safe, I think it’s best if we split up. I’m better of solo anyways.” Ryzen nodded his head at his own suggestion.
Enancia froze as she looked up at Ryzen with shock. “Wha–What?”
“I said it would be best…” Ryzen restated but was quickly interrupted.
“I know what you said fucktard!” Enancia shouted but quickly covered her mouth with her hand.
“I mean I heard you! I-I don’t like that idea!” Enancia said softly. “Sorry, my speech becomes a little vulgar when I’m upset.”
“A little?” Ryzen spoke his thoughts aloud, not realizing it.
“Now you’re just being fu… rude!”
“Why do you want me to leave?” Enancia asked.
“Well, I don’t think we’re much of a good fit, that’s why. You’re a demon and I’m a vampire. We have different customs and beliefs. Ultimately, it will just cause more conflict.” Ryzen said matter of factly.
“I-I don’t want to though.” Enancia shyly said.
Instantly, the weird feeling that caused Ryzen to save Enancia that day came back. At first, he thought some sort of skill was being used on him but his shadow guard quickly made the option impossible. This was coming from himself.
Still, Ryzen knew it wouldn’t work. There was just no way. Logically, it made no sense. A human and a demon? She clearly despised humans. How would she think of him if she knew he was one? If she knew anything about him? Ryzen just couldn’t imagine her thinking the same of him after that.
Besides, why did she even want to stay in the first place? Was she trying to trick him? Did she want something? There was no way she simply wanted to stay with him. She had no reason to. Ryzen knew that everyone did something for something else in return, that was law. What did she want?
“Why? Why do you want to stay?” Ryzen decidedly asked.
Enancia considered not responding but decided to after all. She didn’t know why Alex was so secretive but she wouldn’t convince him by behaving like him.
“I have nowhere to go and nobody is coming for me like the vampires might think. I-I was banished from my country, Zemina.” Enancia gritted her teeth as she said this. It was the truth.
Ryzen looked at her curiously. “Why?”
“Because… I refused to eat humans.” Enancia grimaced as she remembered past events. “Humans are pathetic but still… they are as intelligent as us demons. We aren’t inherently smarter or anything. Eating one just… doesn’t seem right to me.”
Ryzen narrowed his eyes. Perhaps she wasn’t as bad as he thought. “You’ve seen my status so show me yours.”
Enancia figured he would ask for this and had already prepared to do so. She silently willed for it and a silver status appeared.
