Ryzen audibly gasped as he fully took in Enancia’s status. He was shocked at what he was seeing. Enancia was indeed extremely weak but not in the way he was expecting. All of her stats could blow him out of the water but her intelligence stat was just unreal. There was no way it could be that high.
“What the hell? How?” Ryzen was at a loss of words of what he was seeing. Enancia’s stats looked as if she could kill anyone in the blink of an eye, except she had one blaring weakness. A skill called cursed.
Clearly embarrassed, Enancia narrowed her eyes and sighed, “As you can see I was cursed. Some stupid fucking vampire bitch threw away his life to try to take mine. Unfortunately, it worked pretty damn well. As you have seen, I’m about as capable as a vegetable now.”
“Well, that sucks,” Ryzen said awkwardly. Unfortunately, he regretted his words much too late.
“No, shit dumbass! Of course, it sucks!” Enancia snarled only to frown not even a second later. “I’m sorry that was mean.”
They stood there in awkward silence for a few moments until Enancia finally snapped out of her anger. “Anyways, I basically just trusted you with my life so can you please at least give me an ounce of it in return?”
“I..I don’t know.” Ryzen slowly responded.
“I know that it's hard but you do know that good things can come from trust, too, right?” Enancia said.
Ryzen groaned knowing that Enancia was technically right. Good things could come from trusting her but far worse things could happen too. She could betray him and use anything he told her as a weapon against him. The risks were so much yet he paused.
She had managed to trust him with information that could easily cost her everything. Her status, her race, why she was banished. All of it was information that Ryzen could easily turn against her but she told him anyways. He didn’t know if this was stupidity, bravery, or desperation but what he did know was that she did it.
Ryzen looked Enancia in the eyes. They were crimson, somehow perfectly matching her white hair. She was still walking around in the shitty clothes that she had been wearing since Ryzen had found her. They hadn’t had time to find new ones yet but Ryzen would soon change that.
Ryzen would open up, at least a little for Enancia. He wouldn’t tell her he was human as that was a horrible idea but he would extrapolate as much as he could without mentioning that. “What do you want to know?”
Enancia narrowed her eyes, “Everything! But if I had to start I guess it would be on why you don’t seem to know basic things. Like Menex coins or the status! You were oblivious to all of it!”
Ryzen sighed as he formulated how he was going to go about answering this. He decided to be as honest as possible but also not mention anything he didn’t need to. “I’m not from this world.”
Enancia’s eyes went wide as she gasped, “Y..You were summoned? Are the vampires trying to recruit or something? Why would they summon other vampires? I’ve heard of humans but not of their own kind! But I guess it would makes sense with the sparks of war kindling between us and them.”
Ryzen watched as Enancia went off on a tangent and waited until she asked her next question, “That does clear up a lot, thank you for telling me. It’s no wonder you have such strange abilities. Tell me, what is your world like?”
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Ryzen recalled his memories of his family back on earth. He nearly smiled as he said, “Peaceful.”
“Really? You must miss it huh? Do you have family there?” she asked with a bright smile.
Ryzen slowly nodded his head, “Yes.”
“Well, tell me some details will you? I wanna have a conversation!” Enancia excitedly asked.
Ryzen loudly groaned but did what she asked anyway. “I lived with my parents and my younger sister. It was a simple life but pleasurable.”
Enancia nodded excitedly, “Really! That sounds so nice!” Suddenly, a dark expression came about Enancia as she continued with, “My parents weren’t really that kind. They forced me to fight as soon as I could walk and power leveled me. I became pretty strong because of it but… I kind of wish I could have just lived a peaceful life like you.”
Ryzen, feeling somewhat sad after what Enancia said attempted to lighten the mood by asking, “Do you have any hobbies?”
Enancia’s face instantly lit up as she rapidly nodded her head. “Yes! I really love to read! The stories that books tell are just delightful! When I am feeling sad, I often recall the best ones in my head. It never fails to make me feel at least a little better!”
Ryzen continued with the topic by asking, “What’s your favorite? Fiction? Science fiction? Romance?”
Enancia grabbed Ryzen’s shoulders and nearly shook him as she screamed,” What!”
Ryzen could have easily gotten out of her grip but for some reason, he chose not to. He stood there staring at Enancia who was currently having a fit of excitement.
“I have only ever read fantasy! I thought fantasy was it but you’re telling me there are more? What is science fiction? Romance? These are all new terms for me! I want to experience all of these!” Enancia said while staring straight into Ryzen’s eyes.
Ryzen failed to speak as they silently stared at each other. Enancia noticed how close she was and jumped backward, blushing all over.
“I can go over some of them with you but I’m tired. Would it be alright if we continued this… conversation tomorrow?” Ryzen asked.
“I want to now though! There’s no way I can go to sleep after finding out about more book genres!” Enancia said while doing a little dance.
“Enancia, please?” Ryzen desperately asked.
She continued to pout but ultimately bid Ryzen a good night and left for her room. He closed his door and prepared for sleep. After everything that had happened, real rest was like a dream come true. Ryzen hopped into the pure bliss known as a real bed and let his eyes shut.
Ryzen awoke to a loud knocking on his door and he groggily got up. He opened the door to a grumpy-looking Enancia.
“You slept for so long! I understand you need to but you could have at least taken a little less time!” Enancia pushed herself into Ryzen’s room and sat in the one chair that was provided.
“Good morning to you too,” Ryzen groaned as he woke himself up. “Don’t you have anyone else to bother?”
Enancia scoffed as she said, “No, you’re the only one.”
“Ok, ok, give me a few minutes to get myself ready for the day and then we can do stuff. Deal?”
Thankfully, Enancia agreed and gave Ryzen a few moments to prepare himself. Once he did, they left to get breakfast. Thankfully, the inn came with a complimentary meal. Unfortunately, Ryzen had to quickly scarf down some real food and pretend like he wasn't hungry while Enancia ate. He needed to keep his vampire status solid.
After enjoying that, the first thing on Ryzen’s list was finding some more clothes to wear. Currently, his attire was wrecked, disgusting, and dirty. Unfortunately, Enancia’s was not looking much better. The only problem was that Ryzen didn’t have any money and it was starting to become awkward having to ask Enancia every time he needed something.
Sadly, his necessity for clothes outweighed that awkwardness and he continued to the tailor the inn keeper had kindly told them the directions to.
Soon, Ryzen and Enancia came across a small wooden building that had a plethora of different clothes hanging inside. Upon entering, a small woman came up to them and nearly had a heart attack at the state they were in.
“Oh, dear what happened to you poor folks? Come here right away.” The woman grabbed the both of them and dragged them to the back where she did some quick measurements. After a few moments, she came back with multiple different options and shoved the clothes in their faces.
Ryzen and Enancia were too shocked to even comprehend what had just happened. Neither of them had even said a word and the woman had already set them up with half a weeks worth of clothes.
“Thank you! How much do you want for all of this?” Enancia cried out to the woman.
“Nonsense young lady, it is obvious that you two haven’t seen the best of days recently. Please, take what I give and just spread the word of my services,” the older woman said with a beam.
Enancia looked like she wanted to say more but the woman was not having it. She quickly walked up to her desk and put her nose in a book.
Seeing that the matter was over, Enancia wasted no more time in putting on one of the outfits she received. She couldn’t help but look questioningly at Ryzen, clearly wanting some sort of confirmation from him.
Truthfully, Ryzen thought the crimson red dress she was wearing was extremely beautiful but there was no way in hell he would ever say that out loud. It perfectly matched her similarly shaded eyes and showed off her fit physique.
“Well? How do I look?” she asked with a giggle.
“Like a female demon, “ Ryzen said emotionlessly.
Enancia rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at Ryzen, “You’re a jerk!”
He gave her a quick stare and sighed, “Pretty.”
Enancia looked shocked at his words and nearly fell over. “You can’t just say that!”
Ryzen nodded his head at the older woman who was secretly smirking at their encounter and made his way out of the store. Enancia chased after him, continuing to question his response to her outfit.
She only stopped once she realized that there was someone outside of the store, waiting for them.
