Enancia sobbed as she watched Ryzen fall unconscious, too exhausted to continue on. She tenderly gripped his hands in hers and once again kissed him, getting tears all over his face. She desperately wanted him to wake up, to once again save the day with his impossible strength.
She looked over at the bitter remains of Alice, the vampire bitch who had attacked her beloved. She held out her hand as if she were going to burn her corpse to ash and she would have… if it wasn’t for that damned vampire cultist.
Enancia opened her status and angrily smashed her hand into the ground after observing it. In her current state, even such a pathetic attack like that hurt like hell.

She had never shown it to Ryzen but every day she was pissed. Pissed at herself for being so careless. She was trained as true royalty in the demon army, after all, she was one of the archdemon’s hundreds of children. Yet, she stood out. She carved her way to the B tier and took countless lives to do it. She did everything perfectly yet she was thrown to the side like roadkill and spat on by her peers. All because she refused to eat a damn human.
As punishment, she was sent to clear out this backwater shithole of a city. She had easily slain their tier B protector and in her rage, she had forgotten the one shitty thing about cultists. Their most powerful attack is triggered by their death. A powerful curse was emitted from his body and sent directly into her soul. The shock of the attack and her horrible mental state meant that she had failed to set up any defense, allowing the curse to directly impact her soul.
As soon as it hit her, she knew she was done for. Every last ounce of strength left her body and she fell to the ground. It wasn’t soon after that some C-tier shitter found her crippled state and easily captured her.
They tortured her and tortured her for information but she never spoke a word. There was no pain they could make her feel that would be worse than the shit she went through during her training. Besides, she was confident that her family would come and save her. She may have slightly dishonored her family by refusing to eat humans but that wouldn’t come close to losing a rising B tier.
She knew something was wrong after she happened to catch word of Venis slaughtering a scout demon. There was no way her family would send shit like that to save her. She didn’t want to believe it but deep down, she knew what they were doing. They were throwing a few scouts every now and then to make it look like they cared. To make it look like they were trying to save her. But they weren’t and everyone knew it.
It wasn’t long after that Ryzen showed up out of nowhere. At first, she had thought that her family had finally come to save her and her worries were for nothing. What actually happened was something she could have never dreamed of. A rogue vampire had saved her and then, wanted her to hide with humans? It simply made no sense and was definitely embarrassing. In fact, many of the things Ryzen did and asked made no sense.

He knew nothing of this world and acted clueless to common things. He knew nothing of the system that gave him his power. He was so innocent to it all. Enancia became desperately curious to figure him out, to understand what he was thinking. Yet, he shut her out each time she tried.
She couldn’t understand why he was so adamant about being an ass. She began to think that he simply disliked her but then he would go and ask another dumb question. She couldn’t help but want to know more and that desire quickly turned into something more.
Then, she saw him do something astonishing. He must have done it without even realizing it. He ate human food, something that should have been impossible for a vampire. It was then that everything started to click. That she truly started to grasp some sort of concept about who Ryzen was.
Despite everything she had said about humans, she just couldn’t help but want Ryzen more after learning he was one. Yet, he left before she could bring it up with him. He would only be gone for a few days but she felt so alone as soon as he left. He may have been silent most times but she had gotten used to his comforting presence.
Once she was captured again, flashbacks of her previous abandonment came back and she had assumed he was gone. He had been adamant about leaving the city and getting out wouldn’t be hard for him, especially with his skills.
But once again, he came through those doors and fought tooth and nail to save her. He was willing to give everything for her, a demon. A being who has oppressed his race for as long as she’s been alive.
As much as it angered her, she could do nothing. She had cursed level ten. There was nothing she could do to fix it. She would be doomed to spend the rest of her days as a weakling, always having to be protected. She could bear it if it was with Ryzen but anyone else? She didn’t think she could.
A storm of footsteps rapidly approached Enancia’s location and she looked up to see Venis and tens of elite vampires crowding into the room.
“Ah, it seems Alice did a number on your friend. I must say, I am shocked that he got as far as he did. To think that humans could have such skill after all. Truly unexpected.” Venis laughed as he instantly appeared next to Ryzen and softly touched his head.
“Get away from him!” Enancia screamed. She ran up to try to attack Venis but he laughed at her futile attempt.
“A demon and a human. How romantically pitiful. Were you planning on eating him? Enjoying one last meal? Or were you truly going to mate with this pitiful creature?” Venis shook his head as if the very thought disgusted him.
“Anyways, I do believe I am a kind vampire. Even though your man thing has killed many of my important servants, I shall allow you to say goodbye to him.” Venus motioned for her to say something.
Enancia ran up to Ryzen and hugged him desperately. It couldn’t end like this. It just couldn’t. There were still so many things she didn’t know. She wanted to learn more about him, everything about him. After that, she would be the one making memories with him. Enancia scrunched up her face and prepared to attack Venis. She didn’t care if she stood no chance. She wouldn’t allow him to touch Ryzen.
That’s when the familiar noise of her notification system popped into her head.
Skill Holy Hope has reached the requirements for evolution!
New skill gained: In The Darkest Of Times
Enancia quickly brought up the skill description. Holy Hope had already been a legendary skill that buffed her stats. What could possibly be after it?
In The Darkest Of Times (Mythical): It is in the darkest of times that hope shines the brightest. You are that hope. Buffs all stats 1000x for five seconds. Leaves the user at 1 HP and MP for 24 hours. Skill cannot be blocked.
Enancia didn’t hesitate to use the skill. Five seconds was more than enough to obliterate enemies like these.
As soon as she did, everything almost went into slow-mo. She felt her long, thin tail grow back along with her horns and fangs. Her nails resharpened themselves and every last speck of dirt fell off her body.
“You! What the hell did you do!” Venis screamed as the stumbled backward. He could likely sense the amount of power radiating off her.
Enancia gave him a devilish grin and stole his heart, literally. Venis’s eyes widened in shock. To him, it looked as if Enancia had never even moved.
He clutched his chest wildly and watched as his army instantly dropped around him. They didn’t fall one at a time or encounter any huge attacks. They all seemed to just die. As simple as that.
Venis moaned as his final moments came nearer. His entire life felt like a waste. Like it never even mattered. He stood no chance against someone of that caliber. Everything he had planned was gone just like that. It was a joke, truly.
Enancia watched as Venis died, having already taken care of any vampire that could have posed her or Ryzen any threat. As she did so, the skill wore off and she nearly fell to the floor from the lack of strength. However, she was used to it by now.
She carefully lifted Ryzen and smiled at his sleeping face. He was surprisingly light. Also, she was just naturally stronger as a demon, even without stats.
It was like this that they left the city, together.
