“Joseph Smith
Age: ?
Height: ?
Strength: D
Endurance: D
Speed: D-
Potential: C-
Intelligence: D+”
Ryan stared at Joseph’s stats; he was stronger than him, but not by a lot. He stood up from the floor, wiped his nose once again, and looked around. He saw the students whispering and muttering; his stomach started to churn. He didn’t like this feeling. He saw a tall student intercepting through the card; he had a shaggy hairstyle; he was taller than the other students. Ryan frozen as he saw the tall student approaching him.
“I’m Myles Sterling. That was a good fight, you do boxing?”
Ryan’s heart thumped faster. He recognized who was Myles; he was the top dog of this school, the top dog of West High. Ryan finally answered his question.
“Y-yeah… I do some boxing.”
It was a lie. He fidgets nervously; he was intimidated by Myles presence. Ryan hoped that Myles doesn’t pick a fight with him; there is no way in hell he will win against him. After all, Myles was a boxer.
“Cool. Follow me.”
Myles said in a nonchalant tone. Ryan’s heart quickened; he started breathing a bit faster. He nodded slowly. The other students were whispering. Ryan picked up his backpack from the floor. He followed Myles quietly; they walked through the halls until they reached a secluded spot of school. It was behind the school. There were 2 other students. Myles greeted the students and leaned on the wall. Ryan greeted them quietly and stood there.
Myles took out a box of cigarettes; he grabbed two of them. He placed one of them in his mouth. He offered Ryan one.
“You smoke?”
Ryan looked at the cigarettes. He gulped nervously.
"N-nah, I don’t smoke.”
Ryan said, trying to sound nonchalant, there was a hint of nervousness.
“Cool cool.”
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Myles said. He put the cigarette back into the box, lit his cigarette, and took a long drag. Ryan couldn’t do anything except fidget with the hem of his uniform. He was thinking ways to get out of this situation until—
Beep!
“New Quest!
Quest: Defeat Myles Sterling (0/1)
Reward: Silver Card
Deadline: Tomorrow at 3:36 PM
Warning: Failure to complete this quest will result the termination of the system. All stats and skills will disappear.”
Ryan’s eyes widen at the sudden quest. Defeat Myles? He noticed something new, quests can have deadlines? His heart quickens, his chest tightens at the warning. Everything will disappear? His 2 bronze cards will disappear also? Ryan glanced at the reward, a Silver Card? That’s better than a bronze, he pondered on what a Silver Card will contain, and how many rarities are there. Ryan looked back at Myles who was smoking and talking to his friends.
“I see you.”
Ryan mutter quietly.
“You used I See You!
Error! User is too strong! Unable to read stats”
Ryan was surprised. Was he too weak to even view Myles stats? Then how the hell can he ever beat him, he can’t grow stronger in one day!
“I uhm…Myles I need to go to class…”
Ryan said quietly.
“Sure, go ahead”
Myles said, he took a drag from his cigarette. Ryan scurried off nervously, he felt sick. He checked his phone, 8:27 AM. He had 3 minutes to reach to class. Ryan quickened his pace, he entered school and entered his class. He sat down and slung his backpack onto the floor.
“Close Quest.”
Few Minutes Later
Ryan was bored out of his mind. He was shaking his leg, tapping his foot onto the floor. He was playing with his pencil and erases. He listened to the teacher blabber and yap. Ryan eyes glanced around until he noticed a beautiful girl sitting next to him. His cheeks turned a little red, she was paying attention to the teacher. Ryan had an idea.
“I see you.”
Ryan thought.
“Jaelyn Ruthford
Age: ?
Height: ?
Strength: E+
Endurance: C-
Speed: D+
Potential: B
Intelligence: A+”
Jaelyn, huh? Ryan looked at her “intelligence” and “potential” stat, it was pretty good. Joseph was fast and durable; She was faster and durable. Wait…she’s stronger than him? Ryan cheeks turned a little red by this, he was really weak—below average weak. Ryan looked away, the teacher blabbering slowly fading off to the distance. He glanced back at her, she was really pretty. Her nice wavy black hair resting on her shoulders, how she leaned on her desk intrigued by the teacher boring lesson. Ryan couldn’t help but keep glancing at her direction, he felt like a creep. He composes himself and started to focus on the lesson.
Few Minutes Later
The school bell rung. Ryan stood up and slung his backpack onto his shoulders, he headed out class to go to his other classes.
Few Hours Later
School had ended, Ryan quickly walked outside. He took a deep breath, the cool fresh air hitting his face. He was free! He quickly walked home, his heart still pounding from the earlier encounter. He couldn’t believe it, from defeating Joseph, a fodder compared to Myles, to now having to defeat Myles.
He finally reached home, he entered. He didn’t even bother try to call out for his mom, he knew that she’s working. Ryan walked into his room, he slung his backpack onto the floor and flopped onto his bed.
“Open System”
The blue translucent screen hovered in front of him.
“Cards”
The screen changed. It showcased his cards—well only two cards. Ryan touched his Jab card, the window rippled.
“Bronze Card
Title: Jab!
Description: A boxing move.
Mastery: F (3/100)”
Ryan looked at his card, it was a good card. He noticed that the “Mastery” changed. It was now a three.
“What the?! I could’ve sworn that I used it more than three times…”
Ryan questioned himself. He definetly used it more than three times with his fight with Joseph. Did “Mastery” worked differently than he expected? He clicked on “Mastery.” The window only rippled.
“Huh? Doesn’t this thing have an info?”
Ryan said to himself.
If he clicked on his stats, it displays an info window but why doesn’t “Mastery” displayed it? He sighed.
“Let me just do my homework”
Ryan took out his homework from his backpack. He finally finished his homework after a few hours. He checked his phone 7:32 PM. He put his homework away.
“I should get some sleep, to get ready for that tomorrow.”
Ryan laid on his bed. He slowly drifted off to sleep.
