Jake woke with his leg burning in pain. His vision was shifting and changing colors. The ground he was laying on was hot and he looked around for some shade to crawl to. What he saw through the haze was five cacti splitting the ground and moving in his direction. He tried to stand but his leg was not working.
As the cactus drew closer Jack started to high crawl. He was moving as fast as he could on his elbows and pushing himself forward with his one good leg. He was scrapping up his body on half-submerged stones but he up his pace when he saw in his sphere of perception the cactus was gaining on him. The ground grew harder and soon Jake noticed the cactus had stopped. He rolled onto his back and looked down to where the cactus stood. He laughed and said, “Fuck you cactus, not today!” The cactus burst from the ground and the five cactus turned into a hand with five fingers attached to a cactus arm that slapped down at Jake. Jake rolled away and heard a meaty slap from where he just lay he crawled forward faster than he had ever crawled before. He paused a moment to look back and the cactus was nowhere to be seen.
