"How strong do I have to be to survive?" I ask. Its a pressing question. A need. A goal to strive for. "And what do I do to get there?" Direction. The path forward. Any journey that doesn't have a destination or purpose is only running away. If what Nanu is saying is true, I can't run. I can't hide. I can only prepare and rise to the challenge.
Nanu gives me a fierce grin before speaking. "Your only choice is to become a Pokémon trainer, and if you want to get there as fast as you can, you will need to specialize in a Pokémon type. If the books we have been giving you weren't clear, there are 18 types. Though reading your notes, I think you have picked one already." I nod, confirming his statement and my guess that I was being monitored.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Naturally, every type has its place and every Pokémon has the potential to reach the top. That, however, doesn't mean that they are all equal. Personally, I believe that Dark types are the best and I have the strength and skill to prove their worth. But I am not going to be training you, so that doesn't matter."
Slightly startled, I ask the obvious leading question. " Then, how will I be trained? Will the League be protecting me while I train?"
Nanu nods in reply. "I am setting you up as an apprentice to one of the local ace trainers. Misato Jada will be in charge of your training for the next few months. You will be given some more books to get you caught up to the bare minimum to begin a journey. Alola may be one of the safest regions, but it wont be for you. Then again, it might just be the safest you could ever be in, considering the Island Guardians will help keep the Ultra Beasts away."
