She was sure that she had lost them, it's been two nights now. Two nights of hiding and trying to sleep during the day, she can't figure out how they can see or hunt during the day. Three times she had to wake and run, nearly blinded from the sun, to escape the hunter and his pack.
They had driven her further and further from the ruins of the town and the camps, not that she would even consider going to the camps. The stories she had heard from that place weren't good.
There they think of her kind as demons, devils, to be hunted and killed, maybe more, there were rumors of much worse.
If it wasn't that they were so afraid of the dark and the forest then she was sure that they would have come to the family's holdings to come and kill them all.
The night was allied to the family, or Clan as some started calling it.
She straightened up on the branch, and turned to look in the direction of the Clan's holdings, not that she could see anything, the Clan was on the other side of the ruins, or what used to be Paarl. She looked in the direction of the camps, she could see the torches flickering in the distance, nothing like it was before the blue light and all technology died, but still, there was more light there than anywhere else 'inviting the promise of safety' like a spider inviting a fly into its web.
She turned around looking, searching for a place to hide for the day to come, a place where the hunter and his pack would be too afraid to follow.
She sighed as she knew there was only one place she had heard of that they might be too afraid to follow.
Turning away from the distant flickering torches, she moved around the trunk of the tree, jumping from branch to branch, till she was looking in the direction of where the hunters whispered of the fires.
In the distance, she heard the pack baying.
'Shit, they found my spoor.'
She went down the tree as fast as she could. Luckily her agility was high and so was her
She had made herself a promise, she will not go back with the hunter, she will not be traded as a whore, not to the new Clan's chief.
She starts running and hoping that she could lose the pack in the ash before the fire bringers find her, but rather be killed than be dragged back to be used like a whore.
She had barely started running when she was hit between the shoulder blades and thrown headfirst into the trunk of a tree. The last thing she heard as everything went black. "Think you can run from me, Little Shira?"
*************
They had moved back to where Louie had stopped sculpting the road. He would have liked to make the rest spot closer to the valley but from what he knew about termites, that might be a foolish idea.
As far as he knew, termites don't sleep at night, they work twenty-four seven, but that might be wrong now, since termites aren't supposed to be able to handle fire, hell, pre-pulse termites hated sunlight, not to mention fire.
They set up camp and Louie made sure to spend some extra time compressing the floor and the walls of the structure, the last thing they needed was termites to tunnel through their walls while they slept.
Ansi and some of the other spiders had gone out and string strands of thin silk between the trees to give a warning if something approached the camp during the night.
"So? Killing the termites, anybody got an idea what we will be facing?"
Kotche spoke up. "Waves, I think we will face waves of termites. I was in one of the teams that cleared the ant nest northwest of Starter Town and the ants attacked in waves, they sprayed acid, a weak acid but it was still acid and not fire. They have a weakness, they can't run and squirt at the same time, they must stop and bend their abdomen through their legs to squirt the acid.."
"Aah, not true." Kotche looked at Shadow, "not?"
"No, I watched two big ones take down a rat creature, and they shoot a liquid fire out a hole in their forehead, like a flamethrower, it travels for about three meters, but it's only the big buggers, the ones with the big jaws, they are the ones who spray fire."
"Ahh ok, Shit, you say flamethrower? Well, at least it's only mid-range. So it's like napalm? I mean, Does it stick to whatever it hits? It's a liquid fire, not a gas fire?"
Shadow nodded at Kotche. "Like liquid."
Louie raised a stone table from the floor and sculpted a 3D model of the valley out of sand on the tabletop from the snapshots that he took.
Leon shook his head as he looked at the 3D model of the valley. "Damn this is nice."
"Thanks, I got more control over my mana construction than I had with earth manipulation, of course, I can't sculpt what I can't see so I can't show what's on the other side of the valley, or the termite mound."
They were all standing around the 3D image on the sandtable and Shadow directed Louie in changing some of the landscape as she saw it from her memory while scouting around the valley.
"Ok, we need to get into the mound so we will have to split the group. Group one will be me, Sher, Deidre, Francine, Micheal, Derek, Kotche, Counsellor, Christian, and Shadow. Group two will be Leon, Celia, Mainey, Jackson, Debbie, Witney Sean, Barry, Garth, and the three kids." He looked over at the teens. "I can't tell you what to do, but I would like you to stay out here, you guys have the most survival skills so if stuff goes south then I know the rest of you guys will be able to get to Paarl."
Dan looked rebellious at first but sighed and gave a nod.
"Ok, I want to build a trap here. . . . "
He started sculpting and showing the idea that he had as he saw it and together with everybody's help a plan of action was thought out.
Louie was up early, he worked at the edge of what looked like a warzone, there was a thick cloud of smoke and soot pouring from the top of the anthill, like an old smokestack. Everywhere they looked smoke and flames were pouring from cracks and fissures in the ground while workers were scurrying around carrying pieces of trees into their burrow and soldiers looked on.
Louie shook his head as he got back to sculpting the wall along the front of the valley while everybody else was making sure he wasn't caught unaware, watching the termites slowly destroying the place.
He compressed the stone and tried to make it as frictionless as possible.
The termites were not big, well they were huge compared to their size before the pulse, but they were just over sixty centimeters tall and nearly as wide. The worker's ability to carry over ten times their own body weight, not to mention the Soldier termites' ability to spray fire, made them a fearsome enemy, but he hoped that their increased size would make it more difficult for them to find grip and climb the walls.
Louie curved the walls till it met at a point in a dry gulch, which formed a natural funnel, which he then turned into a ten-meter wide tunnel leading at a slight angle for a hundred meters down into the ground to end in a round chamber, the floor of the chamber was sculpted into a deep funnel and the walls were as frictionless as he could make them. Set in the wall across from the entrance was a door with two horizontal arrow slits next to it that would allow those inside the modified pillbox to fire spells at the trapped termites in the tunnel and funnel trap.
Preparations completed they split up and went to their assigned spots while the golems all stayed above the trap guarding the rear entrance.
They had each volunteered to kite the termites, well, all except the kids and Danny, but in the end, Dan had won out. He reasoned that since he had the most stamina due to his high constitution he would last the longest in running, and the termites didn't seem to be too fast.
Dan studied the termites as they worked through the valley, they were not big or fast but there were alot of them, they moved around in groups between three and seven, with the bigger groups that had at least one soldier with them.
Louie tapped him on the shoulder and pointed at the hole low on the side of the hill.
"That's the one we will try to enter."
He took a deep breath. "Ok, wish me luck."
He made sure the boltgun was fully charged before jumping up and using
The rest of the termite group made a hissing sound as he spun around and they started chasing after him in the direction of the bunker.
They watched Dan kite the termites away from the entrance before they jumped up and rushed towards the termite mound. They reached their targeted entry and hunkered down next to the hole.
Looking down, Louie saw a roughly round hole that was a little bit more than a meter in diameter that dropped at a steep angle. "Tight but doable," he said as he tried to estimate the depth of the hole.
"It's a bit tight but it's not leopard crawl so it should be ok," Kotche agreed.
"Yip, Duck, or knee walking." Louie agreed.
He looked over and in the distance, he saw the spot where he had built the bottleneck, it looked busy as termites rushed into the trap and he hoped that the pets would be safe watching over the other team.
"I hate tight little tunnels but this nest is too close to Paarl, and if the Alates start to swarm then there would be no way to stop them. *sigh* so I guess it's down we go."
Sher nudged Louie. "We are not in battle yet."
Louie stopped for a moment before shaking his head.
He reached out and started sculpting the hole before him into a more manageable staircase down into the earth, it wasn't far till they reached a tunnel that opened up a bit.
Louie went first and Christian after him ready to blast the first termite with a stream of ice, then Sher and the sisters, the rest bringing up the rear.
Louie had thought of swapping the sisters out for two of the guards but since they were linked to him and were going to travel together, if he had to move on, he thought it would be best to level them up as high as possible while also giving them experience in fighting since they don't have an actual combat class.
Around the first bend, they noticed that the wall gave off a red glow and a bit of heat, not enough to burn but definitely hotter than it should be. Derek imbued a spot on a wall with his mana and they jumped out of the way as it practically turned into lava.
"What the fuck are you doing Derek?"
They looked at the cooling lava and stunned Derek. "Uuuh, sorry, I just touched the wall with a bit of mana, I think we should kill the soldiers before they can use their fire, they can turn this place into a hellhole of an oven."
Louie looked at the cooling lava. "Yea, Ok, everybody, no fire spells, only use ice wands."
They were so on edge that when the first termite entered the tunnel from a side opening it got skewered by multiple ice spears and a stream of liquid that froze the termite solid, only to then notice it was an ordinary worker and not one of the fire spraying soldiers.
There were a couple of nervous sniggers.
"Ok, overkill."
Louie assigned each of them a sector to watch and made sure that they know to only fire at a termite in their sector or arc of fire, and only assist if help was asked.
They were wearing their night vision sunglasses although it was barely needed since the walls gave off a faint red glow.
Cat's Glasses.
These glasses will grant you +20 meters to your Darkvision range. If you do not have Darkvision then you will receive the skill while you wear these glasses.
Be warned, direct bright lights may blind you for 5 minutes per level of dark vision while wearing these glasses.
After looting and Micheal storing the termite in his bracelet they moved on. They took out a couple more termites before they entered a large cavern-like opening with three entrances across from them. Louie erected a quick barricade between them and the surprised termites before they raised the alarm and rushed at them.
Everybody spread out behind the barricade and started using their ice wands, skewering termites, but for every one killed two more came rushing out of the tunnels.
Christean had fallen back and sealed the tunnel behind them with a plug of ice before he joined them and started spraying a stream of liquid ice over the head of the front row of termites, impacting those behind and creating a slight breather for them to finish off those in front.

Dan ran as if his life depended on it, which it did. He had greatly underestimated the speed of the termites, their slow speed with which they were harvesting the trees in the valley was misleading. It had nearly cost him his life and he had to remove his jacket after it caught on fire from one of the soldier termites' sprayed fire that got too close.
"Shit! Shit!"
He threw the still burning jacket as far as possible in the direction of a group of termites getting them to join his train.
He angled his run towards the bunker while swinging as close as possible to some of the other farming termites, if they were too far out of his way he would agro them by shooting an ice spear at the closest one in the group.
He was currently pulling a train of over forty termites and although his stamina was the highest of them all, it dipped by fifteen percent every time he activates
He lept an eye on the ground as he ran, the last thing he needed was to faceplant by tripping over a hidden rock or stepping in a fissure and becoming termite food.
At last, he saw the entrance of the tunnel that leads to the bunker and the trap.
He activated
The tunnel was lit with a couple of lightstones and he could clearly see the end of the rope that was stuck to the wall with some tape, he screamed as hard as he could as he ran down the tunnel trying to warn them that he was coming, hoping that one of them wouldn't shoot him as he came into view.
He grabbed the end of the rope as he reached the edge and propelled himself across the funnel swinging in the direction of the open door where the rest of his group were waiting to grab him.
"Dan, you okay?" Leon asked as he pulled him away from the edge and through the door. Dan stole a glance over his shoulder at the opposite edge of the funnel trap before he collapsed onto the floor.
"Why wouldn’t I be?" Dan wheezed his voice a mixture of sarcasm, exhaustion, and resignation. “It just feels as if someone set me on fire and turned my legs to jelly, wait, that's right, something did set me on fire, these bloody things were faster than I thought…”
Leon smiled as he handed Dan a stamina potion. "Hah, if you still have enough energy to complain then you will be fine."
"Yea, I'm ok, but that was hectic, they are much faster than I thought, I lost my damn jacket." He repeated as he panted trying to force more air into his lungs. He turned back to the door and notice that only a couple of the soldier termites had fallen over the edge and into the funnel and that the workers were trying to form a chain to get them out as they weren't able to get a grip on the walls, the rest of them had bundled up on the edge and was clogging the tunnel.
"Shoot the buggers in the tunnel, looks like they aren't as stupid as we thought."
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
The lightning strikes and ice spears started taking their toll on the termites and as the bodies fell over the edge some of the others were pulled along with them,
"You guys hold the fort here and shoot those in the funnel, Witney, Garth, you two come with me." Leon opened the door at the back of the bunker and they started up the stairs.
They made sure that everything was still ok up top and saw that the spiders were still hidden in the trees guarding the hidden exit. They sneaked to the edge of the wall and looked over at the entrance of the tunnel.
They used ropes to lower themselves to the entrance and Garth used his
Leon was keeping watch to make sure that they were not surprised from behind.
The ice on the floor started melting and they had to switch out to ensure that there was sufficient ice to chill the air, but it also brought the humidity up in the trapped chamber which helped with the lightning strikes from the wands and as a bonus, it seemed that the ice wands interacted with the moisture in the air to create more powerful ice spears.
Pretty soon Leon got a message from his OCD that the termites were finished and they stopped using their spells as Dan joined them at the entrance of the tunnel after they had looted the termites and cleared the bodies from the trap.
Leon decided that the three of them would wait at the top of the entrance for Dan to kite the next batch of termites and repeat the ice wind after the last of the termites went into the tunnel.
They would try to repeat the process till there were no more termites to kite and the valley was clear.
*************
It was the fourth chamber that they had cleared and luckily there were minimal injuries to their side when things went slightly south.
They had become slightly complacent when Derek got a full blast of fire from a soldier termite that dropped from the roof behind their barricade. Christian took care of the termite but before they could smother the fire covering the screaming Derek, it went out.
Derek was healed by Sher and he announced that he unlocked two percent fire immunity as well as unlocking a skill known as
The immunity and Skill were fantastic but nobody was willing to jump in front of a soldier termite and get covered by fire to unlock the skill.
They took a breather and Louie used
It was about two hours and many hundreds of termites later that they heard a loud buzzing and as they looked around a corner they saw that the tunnel opened up into a huge chamber that was filled with large termites with wings that still look wet and they were fanning it while a humongous slug-like termite was spraying fire into a big fire pit in the middle of the chamber and hundreds of workers ran around feeding the bigger ones and the Queen.
"Fuck, that's the Alates, and the Queen, we got to stop them from taking flight."
The Queen was at least fifteen meters long and three meters thick, it looked like an overstuffed sausage.
Louie rushed forwards and quickly raised pillars out of the ground, six meters high, and spaced fifty centimeters apart, encircling the opening before the termites turned around and noticed them.
They immediately started firing ice spears at the workers and soldiers that rushed at the pillars, while the alates all tried to get as close to the fire as possible.
"Shit, the Alates are trying to get their wings dry, we got to stop them." Louie held his hands for Cristian to step on. "Get on top of the pillar and start freezing those things before they can fly."
Cristian stepped into his linked hands and Louie boosted him up to the top of the pillar, which he nearly overshot. Catching his balance he started spraying liquid ice in the direction of the queen.
The liquid caught it in the side and she convulsed as her side cracked from the extreme cold and fluids started spraying on the floor from the wounds.
With the convulsions, her stream of fire washed over the closest alates, they were immune to the fire but it burned their wings to a crisp.
"Their wings are vulnerable to fire, they can be destroyed. Use the fire wands to lob fireballs over the heads of the termites." He shouted from atop of the pillar while spraying the front row of termites that was trying to get through the narrow spaces between the pillars.
Half of them started tossing fireballs over the bodies piled up in front of the pillars while the others still fight those trying to get through them, but even though the fireballs hit a couple and destroyed their wings there were many more that were not hit.
Christean kept on spraying his ice but the visibility was going down as the ice and heat started to create a thick fog.
The fire and the ice created a lot of water and steam in the packed chamber.
Louie saw that a lot of the termites were wet and hatched an idea, he shouted to Deidre to use her spell
This ensured that the Alates won't be able to dry their wings easily but also made sure that most of the termites were wet, especially those covering the queen trying to shield her.
Sher raised her staff and fired off elemental balls at every termite that she could see while another tree took care of any that tried to break through the pillars.
'Damn, I forgot that I gave her that staff.'
As the cloud formed he removed a small sphere from his inventory and shouted. "Retreat, everybody back into the tunnel," Louie waited till he saw Christean jump from the pillar and moved into the tunnel before looking at the now worker encased queen.
He channeled a huge amount of his mana into the sphere as he crushed it in his fist while pointing it at the queen.
Lightning bolt.
Crush this bauble while concentrating on a target, break the bauble to release a lightning bolt that will strike the target. Splash effect in-crowd.
Bolt will do extra damage that will depend on the extra amount of mana the caster allocated.
Damage 80 electrical + 40 burn damage
Splash radius 2 meters.
Deidre and Francine staggered when their mana dropped into the lower ten, as Louie fed the spell.
It suddenly turned into an electric storm as the lightning jumped from the queen to the other termites and even up into the clouds, changing them into dark rolling thunder clouds, creating a vicious feedback loop.
The termite mound cracked and the ground shook as strike after strike impacted the queen, the walls, floor, and other termites, blowing craters in the floor and hurling dead and dying termites everywhere.
After about ten minutes, which felt like hours, the strikes started to lessen as the mana feeding the storm ran out.
"Holy shit!" Christean exclaimed as he and the others slowly entered the cavern and looked at the devastation in shock.
"What the fuck was that?" He asked the stunned Louie.
"That, . . . that was a lightning bolt bauble, if this was a game then it would have been a Lightning Scroll. I got it from the Dungeon." He rubbed the back of his neck, "I think all the moisture in the air sort of overcharged the spell."
Sher shook her head, "Yea, big surprise there, who would have thought that electricity and water would make a good mix."
Louie swiped the BBs away as they walked up to the pillars and lowered two into the ground. "Well, I can use Mana Construction so the system says that we killed the Queen and termites here."
He looked at Sher for confirmation, who nodded. "Quest completed."
"Good, Let's loot the shit out of this place and go back to camp."
He checked his exp notification as he bent down and looted one of the bigger strange termites.
Fire king (Termite)
If the termite king dies it will leave no insects that can fertilize the queen to lay eggs and control the population for a long time, all the eggs and colony members will die. So, to successfully get rid of a termite colony, killing the king is a proper way out, but beware big colonies have many queens and kings.
"This one is the king, looks like this wasn't a very big colony, so killing the king and the Queen should have solved the problem, and the Quest says that we did, so that's sorted."
Experience assessed by participation.
1 x 1060/Fire Queen = 2060exp
1 x 800/Fire king = 800exp
95 x 475/Alates = 45125exp
37 x 350/Soldiers = 12950exp
465 x150/Workers = 69750exp
'Nice my Trailblazer title helped with a plus ten percent in experience gain.' "Damn, I leveled, level 12 now."
There was a round of Grats all around as there was more level-from the rest of them.
Louie walked up and touched the dead Fire Queen.
Fire Termite Queen Loot
5G coins
4 Sections of Termite carapace
100kg roast Termite meat
6 Fire crystals
Beast Fire Core
4x Fire potions
They each got different loot and they decided that they would pool the loot and divide it up to those that can use it later back at camp.
Louie checked through his loot for the nest quickly after he noticed that the BB called it a Lair and not a nest.
Lair loot
1x Fire elemental core.
87t Infused tree trunks.
40t Infused earth.
2t Red mushrooms.
1x FireTermite Proto Core (Trash)
Various Damaged armor and weapons.
Various infused bones and skeleton pieces.
……..
……..
……..
"Huh, no Capstone?"
Leon looked at him and shrugged, as Louie went back to the list. The list went on and on, mostly trash that was in the lair that got infused with fire mana, but the one thing that caught Louie's eye was listed as a FireTermite Proto Core, even though it was classified as trash.
Core (Fire Termite) (Trash)
When placed in a vacant underground structure, this Core will start to amass mana. Once it has accumulated enough mana, a proto Dungeon will form and a Fire Termite Queen will spawn and start birthing workers and soldiers for the Proto Dungeon. The overall structure, levels, and all other configurations of the Dungeon such as traps, treasure, and the like will increase with the duration of the proto Dungeons' existence. This is the first step in the process of becoming a fully System-Sanctioned Dungeon core.
"YES!"
he immediately got a smack on the back of his head from a gasping Sher.
"Damn Louie, you nearly gave me a heart attack." She was clutching her chest.
He noticed that the rest of the party had all grabbed their weapons and were ready for a fight, looking around, searching for what had caused him to shout.
"Sorry guys, and ladies. I just got excited when I analyzed this."
He sends them the BBs of the Proto Dungeon Core
Proto Dungeon.
There is a 90% chance that a Proto Dungeon core will form when a nest is first transformed into a lair and then destroyed. The longer a lair is active the smaller the likelihood will be of finding a proto Dungeon core as loot.
"Damn, nice."
He agreed before he started walking through the cavern and sculpted the fire-infused walls into cubic meter blocks and stored them in his inventory, luckily the blocks all counted as the same item do they all stacked in one sq not that he was out of space though.
They found two chambers filled with eggs which Christean froze and they smashed as they cleared the big cavern.
Afterward, they retraced their way through the termite mound back to the entrance, only coming across a solitary termite now and then which they took out without any problem.
Everybody was relieved to be back under the open sky again as they looked around the valley, spotting the other members of their group approaching the termite mound.
"You guys look like shit!" Leon shouted as they neared.
Louie looked around at the dirty soot-covered, fire-scorched members of his party. "Ha, you should see the other guys." Everyone started smiling while embracing their companions.
"Let's go back to camp, I will sculpt some bathrooms. I feel like a nice hot bath."
There were cheers all around.
