Chapter 40: Attack on the convoy.

Chapter 40: Attack on the convoy.

The entrance to the railway tunnel had been completely reduced to rubble. Lyon, Veronica and Butchy all tended to their wounds while occasionally glancing at a massive golden sphere.

Cosmic Keith had been imprisoned within this sphere and sat suspended in the air with his legs crossed and eyes closed as if he were a monk. The resonance ability that was responsible for Keith’s current situation belonged to Veronica who had almost exhausted her proto atom reserve. This was the only option for them, even if they had managed to kill him then he could easily revive himself by transferring the death energy away. Her heart sank as she realised that she had only one option left. She had to contact her older sister who was a class six.

In the dark depths of a midnight mansion an incredibly handsome man pressed a woman up against the wall. He leaned in and kissed her neck causing her to moan with pleasure. He whispered in her ear saying. “I’ve hungered for you for so long… I can barely contain myself.”

The woman whose name was Catherine was bright red and sweaty as she panted aggressively. “Please don’t hold back, take me with all your might!”

“Catherine?”

Catherine suddenly heard a female voice call out her name. It didn’t come from anywhere around her but instead it came from within herself. Her mind froze before she realised that it must have been her younger sister trying to contact her with one of the telepathic resonance abilities their school had.

She gritted her teeth irritated that her sister had cockblocked her.

“Is everything okay?” The man asked as he removed himself from her. “I’m sorry if I rushed things a bit too much, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”

“What!” Catherine immediately chuckled before saying. “It’s just my younger sister that needs my help, she’s contacting me with a resonance ability so you can’t hear her.”

“I guess I’ll leave you two in private then.” The man said turning the lights back on and heading in to the kitchen.

“What’s the matter?” Catherine asked urging her sister to hurry up with her tone.

“I’m about to run out of proto atoms I need you to use the golden pegasus arrow on this enemy that I’m dealing with.” Veronica explained.

“Awwww.” Catherine couldn’t help but immediately begin to tease. “Running to big sis for protection, its just like when we were kids. Of course I’ll send the golden pegasus arrow, just place a marker on your enemy’s soul and I’ll deal with them. Aside from that is there anything else my adorable baby sister needs?”

“Nothing else.” Veronica frowned not wanting to swallow anymore of her pride. “I’ll use the last of my proto atoms to make the soul marker.”

Veronica focused deeply as the sphere of light imprisoning Keith suddenly dispersed before its numerous fragments began to circle around him as he remained in mid air.

Veronica’s eyes began to drip tears of blood as she came dangerously close to her limit. If she were to use up all of her own proto atoms then the ambient proto atoms in the environment would all suddenly invade her body causing her to either die or become a mutant.

“Looks like your time is up.” Keith laughed mockingly. Despite no longer being contained in the sphere of light he could still not move. This was because of Lyon who used a telekinetic resonance ability to hold him place.

“How are you holding up.” Lyon turned to face Veronica while panting. “I’m also getting close to my limit now.”

“It’s almost done…” Veronica had no choice but to drown out her colleagues words. It was essential that she maintain her focus on forming the soul marker.

The light fragments all began to converge on Keith fazing through his body and entering his soul.

Upon realising what the woman was doing Keith began to panic internally. It was likely that she planned on hitting him with a direct soul attack. That would naturally put him out of commission instantly so he had to think of a solution to his predicament and fast.

“Done…” Veronica quivered before vomiting up a mouthful of blood. She fell to the ground as her right arm suddenly contorted and twisted into a mangled mesh of a limb. Blood flowed from her wound as if it were a small red water fall.

Catherine was suddenly able to sense the precise location of Keith and quickly began to gather up golden light energy around her, lighting up the dark mansion. She delicately moulded the light energy as if it were mere clay until she created a winged golden bow and an arrow with the head of a Pegasus as its tip. She held it up and aimed before firing in the direction of Keith. This was naturally the resonance ability called golden pegasus arrow.

As the arrow traveled it simply faced through the wall as well as any other physical objects it came across. This was because this ability only affected the astral plane and not the physical or conceptual plane.

Keith desperately struggled against Lyon’s control and was only barely able to move one arm. He sloppily threw a dagger towards Lyon that managed to startle him. It naturally missed but it gave Keith enough leverage to move himself slightly. He already knew that avoiding the incoming attack would be impossible so instead he chose to reduce the damage by ensuring that the arrow would miss the core of his soul. The golden pegasus arrow came hurdling towards Keith and in a flash it tore through his soul narrowly missing the core. Keith immediately began to lose his grip on reality as his mind shattered. The pain of the wound inflicted on his soul was astronomical and in that moment he willed with all of his strength to break free from Lyon which he finally did.

He fell to the ground and darted away while laughing maniacally.

Butchy immediately attempted to give chase but was stopped by Lyon who now held an unconscious Veronica in his arms.

“His class has likely regressed after the soul attack got him.” Lyon explained. “Let him run all the way to Corone if he wants, he’ll just get picked off by Ivan.”

Okimodo and Hiro flew along the rooftops where they saw various demons watching the convoy from up above. Men, women families and even young children awaited the upcoming battle anxiously.

Two individuals quickly flew past Okimodo and Hiro before descending down towards the convoy. One appeared to have a partially mechanical body with multiple articulated limbs and the other resembled someone from the formless flesh school.

Hiro immediately swooped down to intercept them only to be blocked by Okimodo who said. “It’s best if we just let most of it play out until they reach the hospital. It’s unlikely that any of the assassins can overcome Ivan.”

Hiro landed by a window before responding. “Fine.”

The two super resonators were quickly spotted by Shipo and Rineamodo who leapt out of the windows of the rear most vehicle. They darted up along the walls opposite each other before they leapt off of them towards the descending assassins.

The assassin with the mechanical body screamed. “JUSTICE FOR ERITHI!” Before blasting Shipo with a pillar of fire that cut across the road towards the convoy.

Simultaneously Rineamodo clashed with the formless flesh school assassin. He retrieved a pistol and shot the formless flesh super resonator multiple times while in mid air.

Shipo grew a pair of wings and flew unimpeded by the flames. He grabbed his enemy by the head and twisted it snapping his neck and causing the fire blast to arch across the street scorching everything.

The countless watching demons all fled back deeper into the buildings to avoid getting burned. Rineamodo’s opponent was not as quick witted however and was burned severely by his own ally.

Seemingly unaffected by his snapped neck the mechanical super resonator grabbed on to Shipo and threw him into the adjacent buildings. Shipo was sent crashing through multiple walls startling the demonic spectators in their dwellings.

“Justice for Erithi?” Hiro’s tone was surprised as she discussed with Okimodo. “You heard that right? Let’s follow after him.”

Okimodo nodded with his falcon beak and followed after the mechanical man with Hiro.

Shipo ultimately came to a stop right beside a bunch of terrified vampire children who all ran away at the sight of the blonde Azurai.

The mechanical man quietly emerged from the dust before two of his limbs transform into a series of sheering blades.

Shipo quickly got to his feet and charged while drawing his blade. He immediately entered into a continuous sequence of arching slashes that stripped away the sheering blades of the mechanical resonator ruthlessly. A gust of wind was kicked up that pushed around the furniture from the force of Shipo’s attacks.

“Damn it.” The super resonator gritted his teeth before both of his legs were sliced off.

He fell to the ground with a clang and a thud before Shipo held his blade against his chest. He had been defeated in mere seconds.

“Bastard.” The super resonator sneered. “How can you live with yourself knowing that you’re protecting a person that committed a genocide. Why do you do it? he’s a monster!”

Shipo sighed before removing his blade and squatting down beside him before rubbing the insides of his index finger and his thumb together. “Cha-Ching.”

“I see you’re the worst kind of person.” The super resonator scowled.

“You’ve got that right.” Okimodo said as he appeared behind them suddenly alongside Hiro.

“Wait a second…” The super resonator’s eyes widened as he noticed Hiro. “That white hair and those freckles… I thought you were just an urban legend.”

Hiro walked over towards the fallen super resonator and said. “Let’s make a deal shall we?”
