Chapter 30: Scuffle.

As Okimodo glared up at the gathering super resonators, Belnus took the opportunity to sneak attack.

One of his right appendages extended while sprouting sharp bony protrusions. He quickly flipped his meaty wings and blasted upwards clotheslining Okimodo from behind.

They collided with the massive bridge pillar sending dust and shards of metal flying everywhere.

The female resonator who was on Belnus’s side cheered with great catharsis. “Please kill him painfully master Belnus. Rip that girly boy to pieces.”

The other super resonators were not cheering. In fact, many of them had wary and guarded expressions.

Within the dust cloud and rubble, Belnus’s eyes widened as he saw that his protrusions had failed to pierce through Okimodo’s skin. “You Azurai people really are something else…”

“Ouch…” Okimodo whined as his body was pressed into the jagged steel wall. He began to breathe in as much air as his lungs could muster as he activated a resonance ability.

“What the hell?” Belnus felt the boy’s body heat up suddenly.

Okimodo engulfed his own body in flames causing Belnus to jump back as half of his own body also caught a blaze.

“Shit!” Belnus quickly dove back down into the water to quell the flames producing a massive splash.

Okimodo leapt out from the partial crater that had formed as a result of Belnus’s earlier attack, landing with his two feet on the wide walkway facing the others.

The super resonator’s all staggered back in wariness and Okimodo himself didn’t make any rash moves. A tense moment persisted as no one dared to attack first.

That’s when the female super resonator from the formless flesh school suddenly yelled. “Let’s all attack him at once!”

The woman whose name was Isabelle then turned to Okimodo and scowled. This bastard had killed her three younger brothers. It was time for him to pay.

Okimodo had just finished extinguishing the fire on his body when Gravellee suddenly charged at him, not even bothering to see if the other resonators joined her in attacking. Several bony spikes erupted from her arm as she swung it down upon Okimodo like a club.

Okimodo dodged the attack by spinning around before delivering a chop to the woman’s neck. “I’d rather not kill two women in one day.”

As Gravellee’s unconscious body hit the steel floor with a thud, Okimodo fixed his eyes on the other resonator’s before saying. “Why don’t you all just go home.”

“And not get my money?” One of the super resonators stepped forward laughing. “Why don’t YOU just go home instead.”

The super resonator then yelled out. “Come forth maple puppet.”

A black ball of energy manifested in the air above them before several fin threads shot out from it.

Recognising this ability, Okimodo quickly darted back to avoid the threads that came in his direction.

“Dammit.” Okimodo gritted his teeth as three of the threads attached themselves to him, merging into his skin.

“What the fuck!”

“This bastard!”

Several of the other super resonator suddenly began to panic as they noticed that the threads had attached to them as well.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” One of them sneered at the super resonator who summoned the threads.

The man whose name was Tristan laughed before responding. “None of us are friends, we only agreed to a temporary truce until we get rid of the two shang rokai.”

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

At the same time the threads attached to the super resonators suddenly tightened as they all lost control of their bodies.

Only Okimodo who had a body much stronger than a regular person was able to resist.

The super resonator who had summoned the threads made several motions with his fingers and all of super resonators involuntarily charged towards Okimodo.

Okimodo reacted instantly drawing his bow and firing several flaming arrows immediately. They cut through the air striking all of the super resonators and killing them in a single shot.

The super resonator charged forward amidst the falling corpses surprising Okimodo as he closed the distance between them before retrieving a dagger from under his black coat.

He swung for Okimodo’s neck with a blinding speed.

Okimodo activated spectrum dash and dodged before retaliating by thrusting towards the man’s heart with his right palm.

He then suddenly felt his body freeze as spectrum dash deactivated. “Dammit.”

The super resonator then attacked again with the same dagger.

Okimodo managed to regain control of his body just in time for his neck to be grazed before he jumped away and sprouted wings. He flew back several dozen metres away from the bridge before pondering. The threads were the result of a resonance ability called maple puppeteer. It allowed a person to summon and control the maple puppeteer and use its threads to control others. The threads were impossible to destroy and could only be done away with by killing the resonator who summoned them or destroying the maple puppeteer itself. Fortunately for Okimodo, it would be extremely difficult for his enemy to gain full control of his body. The super resonator could only stagger his movements for a few seconds at best such as just now.

All of the air suddenly blasted out of Okimodo’s lungs and he saw everything become a blur as a tremendous force struck his back. It was as if a mountain had fallen on him. His body was sent flying before it collided with the cold steel of the bridge pillar before bouncing off and landing on the undulating metal walkway. He groaned and picked himself up before everything turned black followed by the feeling of something wet and fleshy engulfing his head.

Belnus held up Okimodo by one of his appendages. Muscle fibres began to sprout like plants on his body before they converged on the appendage that was squeezing Okimodo’s head.

“Come on, come on.” Belnus tensed his entire body hoping to squash the shang rokai’s head like a grape.

“The bones of an Azurai are extremely resistant to force, it’s not going to work.” Tristan whistled as he walked over towards the hulking monstrosity. “The most effective method to kill them is with poison.”

Numerous eyes on Belnus’s body locked on to the blonde haired man who was talking before he replied. “Do you have any poison on you then? Is it in that dagger of yours? Hurry up and stab him with it.”

“Don’t have to tell me.” Tristan rolled his eyes before darting forward.

Okimodo gritted his teeth before kicking his feet forward and up flipping himself onto Belnus’s back, narrowly dodging a swing from Tristan’s dagger.

Belnus’s appendage had been bent back behind him as a result of this and he screamed out in pain. Apparently it wasn’t supposed to bend like that.

The skin on Okimodo’s face began to tighten rapidly as his lips peeled back to his ears. His teeth grew monstrous and sharp as his jaw unhinged like a snake’s. The entire bridge pillar shook and was died under a black light as Okimodo unleashed a wave of condensed kinetic force from his mouth. The majority of Belnus’s body was obliterated instantly as if it never existed. Tristan quickly activated his three threads that he had embedded in Okimodo’s body, yanking the boy’s head up and causing a large portion of the bridge pillar to be shredded by the wave of energy.

The attack stopped as Okimodo let out a long sigh of frustration. Countless pieces of broken metal fell down into the water far beneath along with what remained of Belnus’s body.

Okimodo tapped the railing with his right hand and it suddenly tore itself apart along with a large part of the bridge walkway. They both began to fall as particles from the countless pieces of the walkway shot towards Tristan like a Gatling gun. He responded by willing for the Mapel puppeteer to shield him. At the next moment the sound of shredding wood and metal permeated through the air.

The remnants of a giant destroyed puppet with the upper body of a woman and lower body of a spider materialised in front of Tristan, falling with him into the water.

With the maple puppeteer destroyed Okimodo quickly flapped his wings turning his downward spiral into an upward arc before flying back in the direction of the crimson Duchess. Okimodo was someone who enjoyed battle but not this kind. He much preferred the large bombastic shows of force and devastation made in battles between super powerful rivals. Tedious and drawn out fights against people with strange and complex abilities were not to his liking at all.

The train had long left the bridge and was hurdling through a long tunnel. Shipo and Hiro had yet to encounter any more assassins but they knew damn well that there were a few more chasing the train. She could still feel the life energy from the ones infected with her death seeds. While the speed at which the seeds drained their life energy was slow, it would still be a problem for them in the long run. Whether the assassins liked it or not they’d have to confront her.

Beside her Shipo sighed before heading back to the guard cab. He wondered how much he’d get paid if he handed Hiro into the authorities. Surely he’d get at least one hundred thousand Bucks? Well, it was a thing to think about at least, just in case his brother’s plan failed and Benjamin died earlier than they desired. Hiro soon joined him in the guard cab before asking. “Do you have anything to eat?”
