Chapter 18: becoming a man.
Okimodo didn’t find it out of the ordinary for Kaiya to approach them as she and Shitari were close friends.
“I resonated for the first time today.” Kaiya’s tone was ecstatic as she spoke. “Okimodo helped me do it. We prayed together under Heshea’s statue and it just came to me.”
“Is that true Okimodo?” Shikimodo asked as he felt the pride he had in his son intensifying. “Were you really able to guide Kaiya towards her first time experiencing resonance?”
“Yes.” Okimodo admitted. “But it was technically by accident. I wasn’t really trying to make her resonate.”
Shitari smiled before looking over towards her brother with a raised eyebrow. “What motives did you have when helping her then?”
“Shitari get off your brother’s back.” Petra frowned. “He did something special for her and we should all be encouraging him to do more good.”
“I’m just wandering?” Shitari chuckled. “We all know how he really is.”
“He’s amazing.” Kaiya blushed softly.
Okimodo wanted to kick his sister in the shin to shut her up again. Why couldn’t she just mind her own business?
“My parents have gone home.” Kaiya explained. “I came here because I wanted to learn more from Okimodo.”
Kaiya then made strong eye contact with Okimodo before winking.
Okimodo knew instantly what she was implying and said. “Of course, I’ll take you back home to practice some prayer sequences right now.”
“Have fun you two.” Petra smiled completely oblivious to the devious intentions that lay under her son’s words.
“Wait I’ll come too.” Shitari said suddenly standing up. There was no way in hell she’d let her brother do what he intended to do with Kaiya. Kaiya may have loved Okimodo but that was only because she was naive. Her brother was a scoundrel with a never ending appetite for the opposite sex. Shitari would not just sit down and watch another girl get ravished by him. Girls had to look out for one another.
“No you won’t.” Okimodo declared. “Stay here and spend some quality time with mom and dad.”
“You don’t get to order me around.” Shitari snapped at him.
“I’m a man now.” Okimodo responded smugly. “As the third head of the household I deny you permission to come with me.”
“Come on Okimodo.” Shikimodo frowned. “What’s the big deal just let Shitari tag along.”
“No.” Okimodo shook his head before lying without a trace of shame. “If I’m going to teach Kaiya, then I’ll need to be alone with her. I won’t disrespect Heshea and Ionoon by allowing a distraction. The traditions of prayer must be followed piously.”
Shikimodo and Petra were both overcome with emotion when they heard their son’s words. Who would have thought that Okimodo was so loyal to the clan traditions. It was a sight that brought tears of pride and piousness to their eyes.
“My son…” Shikimodo smiled from ear to ear as he wiped a tear off from his right cheek. “I cannot express how proud I am of you. Please take Kaiya and show her the wonders of devoting herself to the divine.”
Kaiya walked over to Okimodo’s side before smiling back at Shitari. “It’s fine Shitari I’ll see you tomorrow.”
At the same time Fuji suddenly awoke from her unconscious state and looked around the arena confused. Shitari quickly cradled the dog in her lap before saying. “I’ll have to come with you anyway. I need to bring Fuji home to recover.”
“I’ll just drop Fuji off myself.” Okimodo was growing increasingly impatient with his sister. “Give her to me.”
“No.” Shitari smiled with a hint of malice. “You don’t even know the right medicine to give to her.”
Okimodo then perfectly laid out Fuji’s entire diet as well as what supplements she regularly took. He even named the specific medication that the dog needed in its current state.
Shitari was at a loss for words. She grew increasingly desperate and gave up all restraint. “I am coming home with you two whether you like it or not. It’s my house and I will go there whenever I want.”

Okimodo heaved a heavy sigh. “Fine.”
On the way back home Shitari became increasingly annoying. She made multiple attempts to inform kaiya of his past relationships, deliberately twisting the stories to make him sound terrible. Fortunately, kaiya was completely unaffected and clung close to Okimodo throughout the journey back home.
When they entered the house Okimodo face palmed when he remembered that Shipo was also there training in the backyard.
“Ok let’s head up to my room to practice our prayers.” Shitari dictated as if she was the leader of the house.
It quickly became clear that Okimodo would not be getting rewarded for his passing of the rite of passage as long as Shitari still lurked around him and Kaiya. He looked towards the kitchen with a demonic smile. He knew the perfect method to get rid of her.
He left the two girls who continued up to Shitari’s room and made his way into the kitchen. After placing the moonshishi in the fridge he began rummaging through the fridge and cupboards until he finally found what he needed. In his hand he held a sealed bottle filled with violente. It was a type of medicine that had the effect of immediately purging the body of all harmful substances. The method through which these harmful substances were expelled was through explosive diarrhea so many people would often consume it on the toilet.
He placed the bottle down on the counter and retrieved a carton of mixed fruit juice from the fridge. He poured three glasses of mixed fruit juice while placing a few drops of violente in one of them.
He then resealed the violente before returning it to the cupboard where he got it from and did the same with the mixed fruit juice. After completing that task he made his way up to his sister’s room and entered.
He immediately saw Shitari and Kaiya sitting on the floor with their legs crossed. Kaiya smiled widely as she patted the ground next to her for him to sit down.
Okimodo did so and offers them both their drinks making sure to give Shitari the drink designed specifically for her.
After they all empty their glasses Shitari immediately clutched her stomach before blasting out of the room without explanation. Fuji being a loyal dog ran after Shitari while barking.
Kaiya was stunned for a second not knowing what to think of the sudden change in events. In truth she didn’t care too much about the prayer sequences and simply intended to sneak off with Okimodo to be taken to pound town.
“She won’t be a cockblock anymore.” Okimodo chuckled. “Come with me.”
“Okay.” Kaiya smiled as she finally understood what had happened.
Okimodo got up with her and walked over to the window where he saw Shipo practicing slashes in the backyard, likely completely unaware of their presence.
He turned to face her and smiled mischievously before turning back around and motioning for her to climb on his back. Kaiya did so and Okimodo opened up the window before leaping outside.
Shipo was startled as he heard a thud behind him. When he looked he saw that it was Okimodo carrying Kaiya on his back.
“Ugh.” Shipo immediately turned back around not even slightly interested in knowing what his brother was about to do with the girl on his back.
Okimodo jumped again, this time he sent himself and Kaiya over fifty metres in the air causing kaiya to close her eyes as she clung to him tightly.
“Where are we going?” Kaiya asked.
“There’s a special place I always hang out around.” Okimodo explained. “You’ll love it when you see it.”
Okimodo then flipped her around himself so that he held her in his arms.
“Don’t do that it’s terrifying.” Kaiya squealed.
“It’s Okay.” Okimodo smiled before a massive pair of eagle wings erupted from his back. “I will never let you fall.”
They soared across the constellation of lights emitted by the city far beneath them until they neared the coastline. Okimodo then swooped down suddenly into a massive dive.
Kaiya felt her organs move around like limbs inside of her. It took all of her strength for her not to scream or cry. she felt Okimodo suddenly slowdown followed by a gentle thud as Okimodo’s feet touched the sand. She opened her eyes to find herself in the middle of a jungle.
“What the…” Kaiya was confused. “We’re not going to do it in the jungle are we?”
“Relex.” Okimodo laughed charismatically. “Just stay close to me.”
“Okay.” Kaiya smiled clinging on to him. “I’ll stay close to you.”
As Okimodo got closer to the opening in the trees he spotted a human silhouette emerging out from the hazy moonlight. As the Silhouette got closer the gaunt vestige of a once beautiful woman emerged from the foggy silhouette, her eyes glowing an oppressive pale puss colour with a dagger like pair of pupils. Her raven hair was extremely long and thickly braided, as she walked the thick braids dragged on behind her producing no sound. Her eyes locked on to Okimodo and he felt everything around him go cold, so cold that it was scorching hot, it was an utterly miserable sensation. The woman tilted her neck and gradually contorted and elongated it in a disgusting manner as she passed him by. Okimodo couldn’t move and for some reason he wouldn’t dare turn around to watch her go. The woman had no footsteps.
Okimodo knew immediately that she was a demon.
“What’s going on?” Kaiya was terrified having also seen the gaunt woman.
Okimodo slowly turned to look in the direction the woman was walking towards. Much to his surprise the woman was gone without a trace of ever existing. He let Kaiya slip down his back on to her feet before he released a long sigh and reared back in laughter. Kaiya watched on in bewilderment as Okimodo laughed himself into tears.
After a few seconds of this, kaiya began to blush and smile once again. She was about to rock his world.
“Hugh?” Okimodo saw red as sunlight pierced through his eyelids. “Where am I?”
Okimodo awoke the exact same way he did the previous day. He reached for his bow and arrow and was surprised when he felt the soft texture of human skin.
“Stop it that tickles.” Kaiya said startling Okimodo into sitting up.
He gazed down at the green eyed girl wrapped up in his ceremonial robe beside him and sighed. “Chaiseky’s going to kill me for this.”
