A Weekend After the Warlock Event
.
Rexford had his day going pretty well. He got a good workout in the morning and discovered he had a good tie to the Gravity and Space application of Aspects for practical understanding already. Paving his way to be a Deity at the barest of levels.
The only bad part was that it left him really exhausted Qi wise to use it. As for using in the way of Spellcasting it stopped and wouldn't produce the spell he tried to conjure.
But that gave room for more physical training since he was overtaxed when working out that way. His body kept pushing higher using both methods and opened the avenue for a better understanding of himself. Which then required him to meditate more to gain control of his explosive power.
Which the Bo 2nd generation and Luigi did not like most as the sparring was brutal. They were always happy when a call came that made him leave from most training sessions. The money he gained from the Government taking the Mine was well spent and helped obtain more properties. So that happened frequently.
That took a lot of his time to keep organized and above the board for "clean up" to prevent questions from being asked. Each site was covered over with security patrolling the outside. Such a decent job that his employees in that department caused him to create another L.L.C. he set up to change healthcare providers quickly.
The call was in regard to that actually. The Healthcare company wanted to change his agent to a senior member but he refused since the newcomer he had working for him suited his taste and didn't try to screw him over. Telling a company that if they change the agent you were working with, despite how short it was in their opinion you would drop them went a long way.
The gratified Agent spoke at length in the conference call for him not to do that. He promised that he would be available to help with the transition of agents to the best of his abilities.
But to Rexford that was not enough and he made it harder on the company. Stated that if in any way shape or form the Agent received retaliation for this he promised he would let all his friends know to think twice about working with the company.
"Bunch of greedy bastards." Hanging up, Rexford didn't head back to training as one of his spirits came over. "Aren't you the one that is assigned to tail someone I want hands involvement?"
"Yes, I am Lilian master." The accent sounded polished and something she learned intentionally. The clothes she wore suited her well but not the best for the public with the exposed cleavage area. "The young woman you asked us to follow is planning on meeting you."
"Thanks for that, I can't have that though. Tell me where she is so I can set up a fake run-in." Rexford frowned as he didn't want to make this move yet but it needed to be done. Better to gauge in the beginning and make preparations for later if failure starts to take place. "Wanted to talk with old Bo about these Support Occupations more."
"I figured as much." Lilian gave him the current location of the target and a few excuses he could use. She also gave a bit of advice on how to keep it in his favor. "The young woman is very reserved from what I gathered myself."
"I called you to get some small matters addressed instead of continually messaging." Rexford sipped his coffee while he spoke. His eyes focused on the comings and goings outside instead of the teen across from him. "Your mother is from that Li Family overseas, after all, her indoctrination is so deeply ingrained into her, that she does not know how to be a mother."
The Li girl was born here on American Soil thanks to both parents' connections. An old family back in China and a Founding family in the States from what he was able to piece together from well-planned breeding and marriage. But the mother was adamant she carried the family's last name even while she was raised in the States.
Li Alvina was a kind girl who contained a secret inside her. Something that the "Butcher" knew nothing about but benefitted when she, his love died gifting her power to him. The only reason Rexford knew was because he did a deep check on her from the shadows when doing his other "work" in the area a few days ago.
With his changes, she didn't even recognize him at first. It was a pure coincidence that he came across her. And even more when the Spirits that tailed her all stated she made them feel really weird.
"Rexford, can you at least look at me?" Alvina asked. She knew he would not remove the gold-tinted shades but at least he could look in her overall direction. After not meeting him all these years, she hoped for a better reunion than this. But Mrs.Hyrcanus, the original Rexford's mother had called her to check on him directly. 'Why is he so distant despite sitting currently across from me?'
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
"No need. Just think we should try to... I don't know keep things more defined. It's not like you are in love with me. Just childhood sweeties or something people tell me. Besides, I am sure you have quite a number of suitors already."
"I don't know what you are talking about with suitors." Alvina's cheeks puffed thinking he was teasing her. She assumed he also found out about her mother trying to play matchmaker somehow with a prominent American Family to expand family connections in that direction. 'Is he just jealous, is that why he is acting like this?'
She couldn't be further from the truth actually.
"I am just trying to spare you the heartbreak and pain you will have from dealing with me in the future. I am not the marrying type, and I am not the settle-down type."
Which was true, since he traveled a lot and never wed. Better to have lovers and enjoy life when you expect to die any day from someone taking a hit out on you, planting a bomb under your car, or some new rampant disease causing an issue.
A bit of pain as he thought about the changes to himself possibly tainting his humanity. A note to find someone to confide in definitely popped up as must have. He didn't have his confidants in this world after all.
"Your father is so miserable he is doing extramarital affairs to keep from killing himself. In fact, from my understanding, he is actually in love with the other woman but can't leave her due to the power your mother wields."
Inside his coat, he pulled out a few pictures and set them on the table. It was easy for a P.I. to gain hold of these with the aid of a Spirit helping behind the scenes.
Open a window here, knock on a door there. Slip a keycard out the pocket of a worker to make it look like an accident.
Simple stuff.
"My mother and father love each other dearly." Alvina said defensively while refusing to look at the pictures. But she knew matters were not simple at home. Rexford turned away when she said that and put away the photos. "Ugh, stop acting like this."
"Well since you won't see reality, I don't want to look at you." He rests his head on his hand somewhat amused. Just propping it up to do so really to hopefully annoy her. "The world is a dangerous place and I am just giving you the chance to be safely unaware of a lot of it. Of course, that most likely means misery for you. Hell knows your mom will force a marriage on you that will be worse than her own. All in the name of... actually just plain old psycho nuts really."
The information he was able to gather on the mother was quite sinister. The Li family had control of Chinese zombies back home in China. Not something he was ready for or wanted to deal with.
"Fine, if you don't want to be friends and want me out of your life then so be it." Alvina shook a little in anger. A powerful sensation was stirring inside her that caused her a lot of emotional conflict. 'What is this feeling that is happening again?'
The stirring of her potential as a supernatural entity started to take shape quickly.
"Great. I am glad you were able to come to that type of conclusion. Pleasure doing business with you." Rexford stood up and offered his hand for a departing shake. "Best of luck in all your future endeavors."
"You.. you.. ugh!" Alvina started to pout. It usually worked on Rexford when they were younger. But this was not her Rexford. "Do you hate me that much after these last few years of being away?"
"Haa, that is not the case at all. Just you are not a fighter and not really.. strong in other ways. You are smart so there is that. But your kindness is at the level of naivety that will have you completely used by people. In very bad ways. I am tempted to do so myself."
Rexford gave her an evil smile as he sat back down. The Gold Qi she had wrapped around her was taking forever to take away. Didn't help there was so much of it and it flowed through her very bones and viscera. Someone who was supposed to really be involved in his life just had too much going on and was also tied to many others to deal with in one go.
Someone Destiny had woven as a focal point for this Dimensions benefits.
But what he gathered so far was strong and enough to provide even if he already got involved. With ample protection from being killed easily or worse.
'Tch! I knew she was a big deal in Rexford Hyrcanus and Canaanite's original life but for her to be so in this life before she was really supposed to meet up with him months later is just ridiculous. Just need to get all the Destiny Qi from her and go a separate way from her.'
There was no Alvina Li in his Earth so he was happy about that but she did remind him of someone he knew when he was in high school.
"I don't know what is going on with you. Maybe it's a change of city life and the change to the people after what happened to you back home, but you can talk to me." Alvina was not going to let him leave her life just that easily. Not after all these years of waiting. "If I call you to talk, you better pick up."
"Right... I might." Rexford didn't expect her to be this stubborn. He honestly thought about killing her and tossing her into the Black Gold Vortex to see what would happen. It would also eliminate lingering feelings caused by the "Butcher" and prevent any possible issues from developing. 'Maybe I can get the Gold Qi really quickly that way?'
In his Internal Space, the mini version of him was still in deep thought. Having found a few methods and compiled a manual to help protect regular humans and cultivators with special constitutions away from prying eyes.
The problem with this method, it would require the Gold Qi to use. And Rexford was not going to share a single bit of it with the mini easily. They were on opposite sides for all intents and purposes as the Champion made it clear the mini needed him more than he needed it.
To kill off a part of yourself so easily brought another issue for the mini. I wonder what Destiny would do if that happened.
As the conversation continued on, Alvina was getting a better understanding of who "Rexford Maccabeus" was. The last few years had changed him a lot it seemed. But when he showed her the ID with the name change, she almost lost it.
Something about seeing it made it real in the worst way.
After some more begrudging talks, Rexford excused himself as he had much better things to do and handle. He opened his phone and looking at a horrible message about his new employees getting arrested.
It was the weekend so they would be there until Monday if it goes badly.
