The flight finally landed with nothing else going on besides talks with the Stewardess. No numbers were exchanged but they exchanges chatroom tags.
Disembarking and collecting luggage was easy enough since it was just one bag. A mental note was made to do some quick mining to have money. If his Body was Tempered fast enough he could recover stuff from the Harbor and in the Ocean long since buried to get money.
*Ring! Ring! Ring!* A cell phone vibrated a little in his pocket while going off. The caller id said, mom. Answering it, he let the woman talk her fill while understanding her more for himself. Images of what the woman looked like formed in his mind easily.
Damn near 4k in crystal clarity. But one thing that did stick out to him that the Champion was grateful for. No real feelings were there and barely any thoughts of not causing issues for what he wanted to do.
"Lil Rex, your aunt Sandra is probably waiting for you outside the airport already. You must work hard at that College, okay? It took a lot to get you admitted with the grades and problem with the transcripts."
"I will do what I can, do not worry about me. Take care of yourself in Florida first and foremost." Not feeling much for the woman the few memories painted her as a decent person.
Not to extraordinary but nothing bad. A bit of a temper actually started to pop up from Rexford being a little shit as a kid. But he had a mother and father and they were both lovely before passing in his teens.
"I suggest looking into better security methods. The news reports are not good all over lately. Who knows what new crazy thing will happen for people to make money."
She spoke a few more words before the call ended. While talking Rexford was checking everything for a name change and how long it would take him. After all, he was not their Rexford and would not even keep the name they had.
"Alright, take care. I have matters to attend to. Goodbye." Hanging up, he felt the terminal bus come to a stop not much longer. "Well, this will be something."
Tossing his bag over his shoulder, Rexford looked around for his pickup.
It was not hard to do as several people were staring at two people. One was an older woman with a lot of cleavage showing. For a mother with a daughter in the late teens, she looked better then most supermodels.
'Crazy Rich Asians and Arabians have good bodies. Aww man, I am going to miss the new movie coming out about those shows. That sucks! My tv shows.. they exist here right? This place can not be that different?' Rexford was thinking about all the small joys he was about to miss out on. He hadn't pieced together yet he would be dealing with a lot of Crazy Rich people real soon. 'I need a better internet connection than the one on this shitty phone!'
The girl next to her, the daughter most likely was ok. She looked annoyed as she waved her hand back in forth for cool air. The Terminal was pretty hot and not that great this time of the year.
"Mom, when will he arrive? How about giving him a call and hurrying him up?" The girl was unreasonable by all means. Her name was Cecilia Arabi, but most call her Cece.
Calling would not speed the process up. The terminal bus had just arrived and she could have waited in the vehicle instead of creating a problem by being a brat.
"What an impatient girl you are. It has only been ten minutes." She admonished her daughter. To think she was going off to college soon. 'Summer courses might straighten her out if she does not calm that attitude.'
"Haa, whatever." She turned to the car to get inside. 'I've been in the sun for ten minutes, I planned to go to get coffee this afternoon with friends.' Thinking about the arrangement her mother wanted, she was even angrier. 'Mom even wants to set us up. I bet he's a loser, how can it even be possible?'
"Mrs.Arabi, sorry for keeping you waiting." Rexford introduced himself pleasantly. He would not call her aunty considering she was just to hot and it would feel off-putting. "The plane ran into some turbulence while traveling."
They both got in the car. Mrs. Arabi did the driving. Rexford was on his phone going through mail and contacts. Nothing to major but a few spam emails were deleted. He even uninstalled a few apps to help with the phone's shitty processing. He started browsing the net a little once more since it worked a lot better before after restarting.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
'He hasn't given me a single look!' She thought upset. The casual way he sat in the seat irked her even more. 'Rexford... even his name says he should be in the friend zone. I think it best to keep it that way. The appearance he is ok but he is no overall match for Yang Chao and his friends.'
Seeing as Rexford and Cecilia had not said a single word to each other, the mother felt that was not good. Not like she could do much as Rexford closed his eyes the moment he closed his phone.
Pretending to be asleep by all accounts.
'I can feel the changes taking place. The Black Gold Vortex is taking in more energy for me. Not to mention the Qi that is bashing my body with the method of the Black Gold Sun Art tempering it. Using it this way instead of actually taking it is working. The fact Qi can hurt the Body so badly is wild!'
The few grimaces made were caught by Sandra. She decided not to bother him to much for now. Staring to long at his face before the traffic started back up, Sandra admonished herself a little.
'Since when did he turn into a little hottie?' From the defined jawline and strong arms, she only thought his hair was a little wild. 'Hmm, I need to call that friend of mine and ask her why she hasn't put him to work on something in advertising. Her business could use a little fresh blood.'
"Rexford, Cece is going to be a Freshman like you. You should look after her at school considering how down-to-earth you are."
"Haha, you are so funny." Rexford laughed. He did not plan on getting involved with this little... girl's life. She was very off-putting when he got in the car. "I am going to the same school as her and her friends, so she should look after me normally. But I rather not ruin freshman year. Her friends are her friends and shouldn't have to associate with me due to whatever parents think is good. It is quite rude to them if you think about it to have put up with some guy they never met. How about we just stay our separate ways when at school? After all, I am here for education not to make friends with her friends."
"Oh! Nonsense." Mrs.Arabi felt a little awkward. On one hand, he was right on another as an adult she wanted him to make friends with her daughter's friends. "Don't be all antisocial..."
"No, I insist. If not, maybe it best I stay somewhere else and distance myself from your family." It was not a question but a statement. Rexford gave a smile that was not a smile to them both. "I do not want to interfere with her school life that will then cause problems in your mother-daughter relationship. If I need to be rude I will be Mrs.Arabi. I assure you I am quite good at it."
Being a jerk and forceful had its ways. Especially when people try to maneuver a situation you did not want. Even if it was with good intentions.
The car stopped as he thought they were about to get gas. But Mrs.Arabi went in to talk with someone inside. Cecilia didn't pay attention at all, focused on her phone very intently.
"I'll be back in 10 minutes." Rexford got out picking up the change on the ground. Running back the path they came down the road, he pocketed the few bills he saw scattered about. He then went across the street to a store back at the gas station before time was up. . He found some nice cheap cigars. "Ahhh, smells great!" Just sniffing it alone he was able to relax. "Nice little lighter to go with it..."
Searching for a decent lighter, he was disappointed not a single style from back on his Earth was here. Even in the past, most brands existed. This was just annoying while being weird.
The store owner watched the young man looking through his stock. From the way, Rexford grabbed them, held them, and took in the smell without damaging the cigars.
"The Butane Lighters are in the back.. unless you want some nice matches?"
"Nah, the Butane Lighter is perfect." He didn't see any B&M brand for regular consumption. If he just hit the cigars they would be burnt up in no time. Plus the little money he had would only cover just a few pieces. 'Better than wasting this change so far on a comfort snack.'
Purchasing the standard cigarillos and a cigar, Rexford was happy for the deal the guy gave on the butane lighter. They talked briefly but acted like old friends in a way. A promise to come to his store and buy his future Cigars for bid Deals when he made it big was done.
*Thunk!* When the door closed upon Rexford leaving, the store changed just a little. A few supernatural entities walked in. Some that phased through the floors came up top.
"Well! Who the hell was that guy?" A bear of a man asked. He was the size of one and harry as the animal. "I could feel the very Nature essence taken in by him. He can not be a druid....can he?"
"I don't know. Might just be a new player in town." The store owner answered. "Think nothing of it and leave him be, tell the others."
A few of the supernatural creatures shopping paused briefly to look at the store owner.
"The young man's eyes were dangerous. Plus his hair was natural... I don't need to remind you of Bloodlines like that. I have his card and will keep you updated if he happens to be a Druid." The Store Owner grabbed a box of tobacco seeds. "It won't be long before that Subsidiary Dimension opens up to the Native Remnants."
"Yeah well not all of us have students we can send in there." The bear of a man grabbed the seeds to look them over.
"Maybe he is one of ours that settled here. Hell knows we need more." A man with a wicked air about him said. "But then again he looked to stressed to be one of us."
As the gathered supernatural members of the city talked and shopped, Rexford made it back to the car right as Mrs.Arabi came back out. Cecilia didn't even notice he was gone.
'That shop was something else, I can't get over how much energy I took in during that time. Enough to cement Body Tempering II fully. There was something wild about the energy and its unclean nature made him feel off. 'I should think of any type of Glyphs to place on this lighter. I rather not have to worry about another one for awhile.'
