"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." Despite the loud, raucous laughter coming from the two brothers, Adelaide's soft voice resounded around the room. Adelaide presents her hand.
Charles looks at her in a stupor, her hair white as snow and eyes blue as the morning sky. A cute little girl in every aspect. His thought stops realizing he's been staring.
Charles smiles as he took her hand, and as he dusted his clothes, he spoke politely. "Its fine, though you came at quite an inopportune time."
He presents his hand for a handshake, "Hello, my name is Prince Charles Sieg." Adelaide curtsies and shakes his hand back. "My name is Adelaide Carlize."
The laughter stops as they present themselves as well, with a small bow "Prince Julius Sieg" "Prince Aron Sieg."
Adelaide waves her hand timidly at them, a bit cautious of the new acquaintances. The three princes sat back at the table.
Charles gesture at the seat beside him. Adelaide nods, sitting at the table with them. Adelaide looks around timidly as she asks a question. "What were you guys talking about?"
Charles answer hurriedly, looking at the duos irritated faces pointed at each other. "It was nothing, they were just talking about something ridiculous." Charles ignores the duos offended look.
Adelaide looks at him with an eyebrow raised. Charles dryly swallows, hoping to steer the conversation away from the ridiculous argument.
Charles looks at his two brothers, both of which hold an amused expression. They both cough, seemingly cooperative.
Aron spoke first, "Nevermind it milady, Now that you're here," His eyes filled with curiosity. "It would be best to know about our guests."
Adelaide looks a bit apprehensive but agrees nonetheless. Well, one of them is bound to marry anyway, so why not. She thought before she spoke.
"Well, there have been a few changes," Aron stands in excitement, looking at her with childlike wonder. "Really what was it?" He move closer, "I heard you had new stuff coming from the east."
Adelaide, who is overwhelmed, looks at Charles for help. Only to see him facepalming, he coughs, capturing Aron's attention. Charles tried to speak but was interrupted by Julius' words.
"Oh, my, how uncouth of you, Aron," Julius said with a voice filled with mocking. He even mocks faint "such unpleasant behaviour in front of a noble lady." Julius' words seemingly struck Aron in the face as Aron sits back down, a bit sulky.
Adelaide watched this event occur, dumbfounded, looking at Charles. Who is trying to hide with his hands whispers in his breath, "Why do they always this, why now in front of someone, oh god this is so embarrassing."
Charles removed his hand off his face and spoke loudly, capturing the duo's attention. "Well, where were we?" Adelaide spoke, replying to his word softly.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
"Ah yes, there has been this new invention, it was a cannon, I believe it was called." Aron tilts his head in wonder, "What does a cannon do?" Charles knowing the answer stays silent along with Julius's curious eavesdropping.
"It's a cylindrical hole filled to be what the easterners call gunpowder," She worriedly spoke. "Even during the war gunpowder was widely used, in what they call arquebusier."
Adelaide gives herself a mental pat on the back. Perhaps with this, the modicum of interest can help us increase the level of technology in what is shaping up to be our allied nation.
Aron excitedly asks a question, "Gunpowder? what is it for." Adelaide, a bit used to talking with the princes, spoke. "They explode and burn quickly."
This resulted in Julius slamming his hand to the table in excitement. "Seriously! that sounds so cool. then what does the cannon do?"
A bit taken aback by another excited gesture, she said a bit composed, "The cannon is filled with gunpowder," The duo nods in concentration. "Then they put a metal ball in, the same principle applied to an arquebusier." Those words made fires lit up in their eyes.
Julius excitedly vibrates in his chair. "Really? Have you seen one?" Adelaide moves a bit farther away. "Yes, it tends to go through armor, and is much faster than an arrow." Julius nods, taking in the new information.
While Arin dips his head in contemplation, he looks up again and asks politely. "If that is so, then the power behind the cannon must be immense," Julius looks in Arons direction, "Then walls become meaningless." They both spoke at the same time.
The ideas and invention keep both occupied, as military theories and new applications for sciences were quickly exchanged between the duo. The situation has turned to such a lecture that the duo has started using notes.
During their endless chatter, Charles looks on, a bit uninterested in their conversation. After all, all of this he already knows. Knowing the consequences, the rise of gunpowder will do.
"A terrifying thought for a noble," Charles mumbles to himself. A sudden occupant enters at Charles periphery, grabbing his attention, a floating woman covered in blankets.
Only he and Adelaide noticed the woman waving childishly at Adelaide. She looks Charles in the eye in curiosity, capturing Adelaide's attention as she turns towards Charles, sneakily peeking at Ceri as she left the room, lazily floating away.
Adelaide puts the pieces in her head, and she turns her full attention towards Charles. A fact which he notices. He quickly looks away, afraid of his status being found out.
Adelaide scoots a bit closer, Charles, in return, moves away. This repeated a few times, only for Adelaide to lose her patience, pulling him to her side.
She whispers inquisitively, "Do you perhaps see her?" Her face moves closer, making Charles look away in embarrassment and fear of exposure. He whispered, glancing at the other side of the room. "I don't know what you're talking about, princess."
Adelaide looks at him more closely, noticing his shifting eyes. "You know it's fine, right?" She plays with her hands, seemingly disappointed. "I mean, I just want to know if I'm weird because I could see her."
The words make Charles look at her in surprise. Perhaps she isn't one of them, he thought to himself. He held her hands in comfort and whispers, "Yes, I see her, do you perhaps know who she is?"
Her disappointed expression immediately turns to excitement. Adelaide now whispering, "Are you also a reincarnator?" The words froze Charles in shock and gestured with his head. "Is she part of AFTERLIFE?"
The excited nod from Adelaide answers all the questions he had. He looks at her a bit and sighs deeply,
He looks at her with a glare, immediately stopping the excitement from Adelaide. She apologized placatingly. "Sorry, I'm just glad that I found someone out there who can relate with me."
Charles notices her sincerity and nods, and he waves dismissively. "It's fine, just don't do it again."
Then as the silence settles between them, they look at each other. And spoke at the same time.
"What plans do you have?"
