The breath of fresh air in the morning is the greatest—the waking sun giving rejuvenation. I stand in the courtyard, surrounded by trees and flowers. I breathe deeply, but as the calmness overtakes me. Such thoughts are interrupted.
"Faye! Look, isn't my baby cute." I hear cheering behind me, and I smile. Both mother and Fate appear dressed similarly to those adventurers but with the addition of 4 braces strapped to each limb.
"Apologies, Milord, but Milady seems a bit excitable."
"Why wouldn't I be? This is the first time I'll properly show my baby my awesome skills." As mother flexes her shockingly muscled arms, How is it so soft?
"Wouldnt it be best to learn the fundamentals?" Faye asked hesitantly
"No way, Hell see once we spar the power of, MAGIC."She gestures her hand to what I think she refers to as magic.
I'm sure he'll get it from that, and besides, he already knows how to summon air. That enough fundamentals as it is." Faye stubbornly reasons.
"I see. Then shall we start?" Faye sighs and takes her place in the courtyard. She is smiling with intent.
"Let's do this." Mother spins her shoulder as she takes the opposite side of the courtyard, smiling wider. The atmosphere became oppressive, Mother and Faye take their battle stance as if going in the zone.
As I watch them start, it came with a realisation of the fact that I was ominously close. With that, I scream my lungs out.
"Mama, wait!" Dammit, I don't want to die.
"Oh baby, what is it?" Mother looks at me, worried.
"Should I run? I don't want to be near once the fighting starts?" I hurriedly ask, prepared to run for it.
"It's fine sweetie, it's best you even get closer, so you can observe what we'll be doing." She beckons me closer with her hand. I shudder and shake my head.
"Milord, I assure you no harm will come to your person." I nod but remain in place.
"Then we'll be starting sweetie, Look closely."
Mother's smile turns bloodthirsty, and she raises her hand as spikes of ice flew directly to Faye.
Faye grins back as air disintegrates them away.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Faye summons spike from beneath my mother. She jumps from a blast of air. At the same time, Mother threw airborne fireballs at her. She responds with her fireball dissipating theirs both. They stop and inspect each other.
Mother summons another blast of air at her back, rocketing her forward. Faye freezes the ground as she glides to meet her. Faye jumps with a burst of air, a dozen fireballs falling towards mother as the two meets. She pulls the earth to cover her, dissipating the fireballs. But as Faye prepares to pull up spikes.
Mother burst the earth covering her and summons fireballs as cover. Faye summons an ice cover to defend, but mother blasts her with air, nearly disintegrating the ice shield and propelling the earthen projectiles.
As the projectiles reach, though, she pulls on air to sidestep the oncoming mass; as she lands, mother flourishes her arms upward. As spikes appear beneath her, I breathe in deep with Faye nearly skewered. But notice dull tips.
"What was the score again? 289-80" Mother walks towards her, grinning. Faye sighs
"Milady gloating is unbecoming of you." And Faye answers thoughtfully.
"Oh, you say that now but if it were you winning, you'd be gloating by now" Mother nudges her.
I run up to hug them, eager to ask them a question.
"Oh baby, see, there was no way you get hurt." She pats my head as heat radiates from her arm. I pull back from the heat. My mother looks shocked as if reminded. She is using her leather gloves to remove the bracelets in her hand. I notice redness.
"Mama, why is your hand red?" I ask her as I point at her wrist.
"It would be because of the heat Milord," Faye answers behind me as I heard loud clacking as the bracelets fall into the ground.
"Heat from what?"
"Sweetie, when we do magic, the metal we use heats up." Mother beckons me closer, holding her hand above the metal, gesturing me to mimic it, resulting in heat similar to that of steam from being close to boiling water.
"That's why we tried to use different elements. Since overuse would result in burnt skin."
"Then why did you sometimes use the same element a few times? Couldn't you stick to a cycle?"
"Milord, that would be both predictable and inefficient", Faye replies as she carries with her a bag filling it with the used metal.
"Inefficient in what?"
"In heat management, Sweetie, since summoning an element is more costly than controlling something already present." The mother replies as she carries me to an untouched part of the courtyard.
"Then why not just use air? We can have four rings but all air."
"Well, that'll just make the rings heat up faster and make up for an easily beatable opponent." Mother sets me down at the bench.
"But why?"
"Because you cannot control which bracelet you'll pull power from, therefore overuse could be a possible effect."
"Even so, why are they beatable."
"It'll lack versatility. The various combinations of elements is a deadly combination. Similar to what I did when I sent earth projectiles by exploding them but added speed through control of the air."
"So you didn't just control the earth to be faster?"
"I could've, but that would have put more strain On the earth ring. Heating it to dangerous levels."
"I see, But does it need just to be connected then?"
"Skin contact is the only way sweetie, no matter how small of a skin contact, you can exert influence upon the elements."
"Can I try it then? Do I also get four bracelets? I wanna do an awesome combo." I eagerly ask as I act out punching in the air.
Mother giggles
"Of course, sweeties, Faye is already coming back with a new pair."
I look to where my mother is looking and see Faye holding onto similar if not smaller-sized bracelets. All of the different colours signifying different elements.
"Yes! I'll train to be the best one ever."
