His story

The Food was excellent once again. After that grueling amount of information to what kind of damned fork I would have to use for dessert.

I was able to get through it, so as a reward, Faye let me eat lunch. Though I was a bit disappointed, Mother seems to be busy. Oh well, this was bound to happen anyway. She probably has some royal duties or something.

"Thanks for the food Faye, I'll be going to the library," I told her as I started to walk. I've been putting it off until now, but I really need to know who my father is.

I never really thought I needed to know him. But being a prince id need to at least know where I stand. One way to do so will understand the kingdom of.

"I don't even know the name, geez" I rub my head sheepishly. I start and ponder through the situation I am in.

I am the third prince. My father is the king, which I have never met. So since nobility is a thing, maybe I'm some kind of bastard?

Ugh, I can't ask that to my mother. Well then maybe I can find something about that in the library. I stop in front of the doors. I beckon one of the maids, walking to open it for me, and as she does, I am astounded.

The size of the library is immense. It would seem that there is even a staircase. I look at each book, determining which has the history of this kingdom. And I did, "History and Politics of the Orbritus Kingdom."

Excellent, so the name is Orbritus. It sounds a lot like the Orvit.

'Orbritus Kingdom was a kingdom born through fire. It was the direct predecessor of the Orvitus Empire. The Empire which spanned the world.' So a rich history then, a country trying to relive old glories.

The Orvitus Empire descent to ruin was filled with strife and betrayal. The continent of Orvit, which held most of its Orvitian Nobility and Central government, met its ultimate end. 250 years ago,

As the Great Ending washed away the knowledge, the empire has kept secret. The cataclysm resulted in rivers sprouting, dividing the continent in four.

Goddamned, Literally, I guess, so I think this is the Empire we were built to emulate? I think it isn't as bad as one might think. What technology was lost, though? If such an Empire existed, then you'd think they'll have near modern technology. But I haven't seen a sign of that. Guess I'll skip this then.

From the calamity, four houses rose. Dominant on each section of the continent. They were waging war and wits to complete their conquest of the continent.

He was harnessing the technology left from the Orvitian era, and with his innovations, Technology that was unable to survive the passage of time. The conquest of Siegfried the Magnificent proceeded to unite the continent under the banner of the Orbritus Kingdom.

I see, then the best way to proceed for me would be to either kiss up to one of the four families. Or marry into them, practically the same thing. But maybe then again, my mother could part of the great families, I wonder which one. Then, such thoughts are then interrupted.

"Baby, Mommy is back." Mother shouts eagerly.

I push up the book in my hand. "Mama, look," I reply just as delighted.

"My baby, are you reading already, without me," She asks, pretending to be sad.

I nod at her.

"Mama, what's your family," I asked her hesitantly.

"Oh my baby, you're so smart. You're already reading about your rich history." She asks as she immediately hugged me, putting me in her lap.

"Well, your mother's family would be the Caedebrads. We specialize in magic due to the large concentration of Caellum situated within our lands five times more than the rest of the world."

I excitedly nod at her as she proudly displays magic. But then I remembered something.

I look at her with hesitation, afraid of asking about our family situation. But my curiosity overriding any fear of mother's sadness.

"Mama, Wheres Dad," I ask her. She froze, smiling stiffly. She then replied.

"Daddy isn't here because there are complications." Mother smiles, holding my head.

"Since Charles is still young, Daddy is doing his best to protect you, and that means not seeing him for a while." She smiles.

"Then when can I see him?"

"I'm sure you'll both meet at your tenth birthday." I nod at her excitedly. With that, I'll finally have the faintest idea of what the hell is going on.

Enemies? Who the heck is powerful enough to go against the royal family. Is it the other families? Or some kind of foreign threat. And why the hell is it me?

I push such thoughts far. And asked my mother about her family. She replies with a smile.

"Your Grandfather was the greatest mage before me. You know, he could do almost anything. The only reason I can even beat him now is old age." She proudly speaks while summoning spheres of water with a wave of her hand.

"While your grandmother came from the house of Etteros, a stubborn woman." She smiles even brighter.

I look at her, amazed at her seemingly endless praise of her family.

I guess she raised me the way they raised her, filled with love and affection. Then I thought of uncles or aunts.

"What about your sibling's mama?" Her smile turns strained.

"Dead," She replies grimly.

"Sorry, Mama." Hug her deeper, burying my fave, hoping to relieve her of sadness.

"Don't say sorry, sweetie. He's dead to me. It's his fault, not yours." Her smile turns sweet.

I look on afraid. Even mama can be a bit terrifying.

"But why? Mama," I ask, afraid to look her in the face.

"It's a story for next time, sweetie," She sheepishly answers as she comforts me to any perceived distress.

"How about we continue with the book?" She asks eagerly. I nod at her, and we proceeded to read together.

At least I already have an idea of what's coming. The enemies I'll be facing, maybe it's time to really focus on personal power and combat. What else is there if not magic?
