The chirping of birds echoed throughout the room. Signifying a new day, And as I awake, I hear footsteps—the familiar creak of the door along with the moving of curtains. Faye spoke to me.
"My Prince, It is morning. Her highness is waiting for you at the table." A smile makes its way to my face, and I hurry in dressing. I look at the mirror only to see chubby cheeks on black hair and purple eyes. Maybe the eating is doing a number on me. Whatever, it's probably baby fat.
After I got dressed, I immediately chose to run to the dining room. And as I reach the door, I look back at Faye, seeing her fix my bed.
I exclaim. "Good morning, Thank you, Faye."
She looks at me and delightedly smiles.
I run towards the dining room, weaving my way through servants and greetings. I nodded at them and as I reached the dining room. I open the door with a bit of force.
Only to be greeted with my mother's bright smile. I run towards the chair nearest her. And as I do.
"Good morning, mama." I greet with a bright smile.
"Good morning, my baby." She responds with a brighter smile. As she lowers her fork, she pats the seat next to her holding her hand out.
I examine the various breakfasts presently with eggs, bacon, and the typical bread as I sit. I always wondered how delicious such delicacies are, despite the seemingly antiquated period. I push such thoughts away as I once again gorge myself on the tasty treats. With the occasional hand, my mother helps me with reaching for food.
My mother wipes some food off my face.
"My baby, you need to slow down. The food won't go away." I stop realizing her words. Perhaps she is right. I never did have this much access to food. The amount of food I can eat almost overwhelmed me, resulting in this baby fat. I thought as I touch my chubby cheeks.
"Yes, Mama," I replied, a bit disappointed.
"Oh my baby, I'm so sorry." She replies as she gets teary-eyed.
"It's ok, mama," I answer with a smile, hoping it could comfort her.
As the sniffling ended, I thought of an idea.
"Mama, What if we go outside!? Then ill be able to walk around."
"Oh my, My baby is so smart. How about we travel around the city?"
"I can take you around, Your Highness," as a reply behind me shocked me. I look around, seeing Faye.
"Really?" I excitedly ask as I jump from my chair.
"Yes, It is also quite on time, too, since the chef has requested ingredients." She responds as she takes out a list.
"Then shall we go now?" My mother speaks as she scoops me up, carrying me to the door. She was taking a hat along with her.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"Then shall I arrange a guard detail?"
"Unnecessary, Faye, you do know who you're talking to?" Mother looks at Faye pouting.
"But why mama? Isn't it better to have guards?"
"There's no need for guards, my baby boy. You're looking at the best water mage out there!" She huffs proudly, pushing out her chest.
"Then when will you teach me?"
"We shall be starting your lessons this week, my prince," Faye speaks out from behind, holding a basket and a purse.
As we walk out of the mansion, I am now able to look at it in detail. The Victorian design is something I've only noticed now. The front lawn is immense, fitting for royalty. It even took a 5-minute walk from the manor.
I noticed the different flowers decorating the walkway. Sometimes I wonder who takes care of all of them, even those of the garden at the back.
As we get closer to the gate, I notice the houses. The view puts me in thought as to what era this world is.
Maybe 1800s? I remain in such thought until my mother lets me down gently.
"Do you still want to get carried? I thought you wanted to walk?"
"Yes! Mama," I ran ahead, trying to look at the village. With the imposing gate opening, my mother runs with me.
"Now, now my baby, the village won't run, So walk with mommy, As we go through it.
I nod sheepishly and look around. The village seems to be filled with houses, with various buildings, like inns or smithies. Most people seem to be smiling dressed in different clothing, Though most eyes seem to be looking at mother.
I wouldn't blame them. Mother is awesome. Though as we get closer to the center. The stalls seem to multiply, and the dressing turns to armor. The smell of fresh vegetables mixes with the smell of steel.
"Mama, what are they wearing?" As I point to a man.
"Those are leather armor sweetie, adventurers and soldiers use them."
"Adventurers?" I asked, unsure of what it could mean though I do have an idea.
"They are people who do various tasks and objectives in exchange for rewards. You know your mother was the best one ever," She answers proudly.
I nod absentmindedly at her as the occupation does make sense since this is a world of magic. Maybe it's just a more robust version of a mercenary.
We continued to walk. As we do, Mother and I stop in front of a stall, which seems to hold books and newspapers.
Mother stops in front of the stall, her presence capturing the vendor's attention. The man recognizes her face and stands in attention, giving her respect and reverence.
"Good morning, Your Highness." The man bows.
Mother reaches for one, "What are these?"
The man wiped off a bead of sweat and responded. "That is a newspaper, Your Highness, a batch I bought from Europa."
Mother raises her eyebrow, "What does this contain then."
The man answered anxiously, "The latest news from Europa, At least from the moment of printing."
Mother looks weirdly at him. "Printing? Don't you mean written?"
The man found his footing, "Uhhh, yes Printing, it is something invented, that allowed writing, in volumes unheard of before."
"I see, then I'll be taking one of these," Mother takes a newspaper, "I'll have someone send you the compensation." The man waves dismissively. "There is no need, Your Highness. I am glad to serve."
Mother nods, already deep in reading. The thought occurs to me that other apprentices have started moving. I hope I am not going to get pulled in. However, the opinion was interrupted by the delicious smell of meat and tasty treats.
Mother stops reading, "Mommy, can I have that." I point towards the food. "Of course, anything for my baby." She smiles, pulling me with her.
We continued to walk, visiting each stall. Tasting each street delicacy, I could find my hand. A Few hours pass like this. A voice called out to us.
"Milady, Milord, I have finished with the required ingredients" I look at her, noticing her empty hands. "But you don't have any on you?"
"They shall deliver it to the mansion. The day is getting hot. It would be best to move on." Faye answers pointing back home.
We nodded returning, as I suddenly realized the fact that I ate even more now.
