It was early morning and everyone was gathering around of the gates. Alviss and Ayus were all equipped. The amazons were saying their goodbyes along with offering gifts to them. After everything was set and done, they finally left.
They set off into the forest. “Are you sure there’s a human settlement?” asked Alviss to pass the time.
“Yes. I, saw.” Ayus spoke with confident so Alviss said nothing more. They continued to trek through the forest for an indefinite amount of time. Taking occasional breaks and eating along the way.
While walking a thought occurred to him and he quickly called God. “Yes, what is it?”
“We’re probably about to hit civilization soon, so how am I supposed to communicate with them? For all I know they might speak random gibberish. Now that I think about it and I can’t believe I gloss over this, how is it that Ayus can understand me?”
“Hmm, I didn’t think you would realized it. Truth be told I thought you would just go with it and not as any question.”
“Are you calling me stupid.” Said Alviss who was clearly annoyed by God’s comment.
“That wasn’t what I meant. To answer your question, all the races primarily speak english, some have their own language but english is built into their system so they’ll speak it like it is instinct to them. That leads me into my next point, Universal Understanding. As the name suggested, every race is able to understand one another. Let’s take your amazons for example, even though they haven’t been in touch with civilization, they still comprehend the english language. That’s why they understand you, and their broken english is a result from that and being away from civilization.”
“Well that certainly make it easier but that, just a roundabout way don’t you think? Surely there were much better ways of doing it.”
“Well you know what they say, God works in mysterious ways. Good bye for now.” God was gone, leaving Alviss once more confused. “But you are God. More like God works in ways that is convenient.”
Alviss finally let the matter go and continued on for a couple more hours. Alviss concluded that it was early evening by the time they finally reached the settlement.
They walked out of the forest and soon came upon sight of settlement. They were still a far distance away, on a large cliff looking down on the small city. “Huh, guess you were right.”
They continued their path down, heading towards the city. A large stone wall was constructed around the city, protecting it. Before they made their way over, Alviss pulled Ayus to the side.
“Husband?”
“We need to talk. I want you to stop calling me husband, just call me Alviss.”
“Why?”
“Well if you didn't know, male are really rare. If you keep on calling me husband then other girls will get suspicious.” Ayus had on a confused look but she slowly realized what Alviss was trying to say.
“Other, know. Get, husband.”
“Exactly, so it's important that you call me Alviss from now on. You got it?”
“Yes.” With that conversation over, Alviss practiced with Ayus a couple of time before finally heading out. As they got closer, a pair of guards could be seen.
“Halt.” said one of them as they walked up to inspect Alviss and Ayus. “I haven’t seen a person like you before, who are you.”
Alviss was a bit stunned by the sudden action but shook it off. “Umm. Well you see I’m lower continent. This is my first time being here. Hehe.” Alviss let out a nervous laugh as they inspected them.
“And your friend?” said one guard pointing at Ayus. “Umm, we meet during my trip here. She’s harmless, I promise.”
The guards talked with one another before finally reaching a conclusion. “All right, you can go in. I assume you know how to act within the city.”
“Of course. Thank you again.”
With that they made their way into the city. They walked through the city in awe at the new environment around. Houses and stores lined up against one another with women bustling about.
“Wow, more, people.” Ayus looked around at the new world that she was in. To her everything here was foreign. Alviss was taking note of the women around as well. ‘Even in a world of all females, I’m still tall.’
Most of the women walking around were around the heights of 5’5-5’6. Alviss and Ayus were able to get a much better view of everything thanks to their heights. However they weren’t the only ones eyeing things.
Almost everyone they passed were looking up at them. Most were whispering with one another as this was probably their first time seeing an amazon along with a person that tall. ‘We need to hurry up.’ thought Alviss as they were drawing attention.
He quickly looked around and found what seemed like a general store and headed in. The store had a wide array of material from armor and weapons to potions and other miscellaneous items. They walked around, looking at the wide assortment of goods available.
“This equipment seems really good, the only problem is that we have no money.”
Eventually they headed up to the register to see if they could sell anything. “Hello, how may we help you today?” said the receptionist.
“I was wondering if we could sell some of our stuff, we’re low on money.” The receptionist looked at them for a moment before answering. “Of course, what might you have?”
Alviss opened the bag and took out the pelt of one of the wolves and part of the beast fur. When he laid them out, the receptionist had a shock expression. “How did you get these?!”
A confused look cross his face. “Umm, I hunted them. Are they special?” The receptionist looked even more shock at the two. “This fur belongs to a lubwof. They’re power creatures that hunt in packs while this fur belongs to a Leongua. A vicious predator that would take about seven of our best guards to take down.”
Alviss zoned out a bit when he heard the reputation of the beasts that he killed. He shook his head and brought his attention back. “I see. Well how much would you sell them for me?” said Alviss as he brought out more which shocked her.
The receptionist was even more surprised that Alviss was willingly to sell it. “Well the lubwof would sell for about sixty bronze each while leongua would sell about eleven silver. But our store is pretty small so we don’t have that much money.”
Alviss looked at her. ‘Hmm, she doesn’t look like a person that would swindle me.’ Alviss kept the thought to herself. He looked around and an idea came to him. “Well since you don't have enough money, then we’ll just trade it then.”
The two worked out a fair exchange. By the end of it Alviss received a new leather armor with metal pieces on one of the shoulder guard and bits on the hands and knees. The reason for it was because the old armor was wearing out and the new armor had breast bumps as to not draw suspicion to Alviss anymore.
Ayus also received some some knee guards and light steel gauntlets. Along with a couple more potions, a small knife, some ropes and other things. They also received some currency, twelve silver, twenty bronze and seventy copper coins. While conversing with the receptionist he learned the currency of the world. Copper coins were the lowest, bronze was next, then silver, gold, and finally ebony coins.
After they finished their business, they decided to head out and look around some more. Alviss was getting a feel for the new armor. “So how’s the new armor.” asked Alviss as Ayus was also getting a feel for it. ‘Light, strong. Thank you.”
“No problem. Anyway let’s take a little break.” They continued on their way until they found a small shop. It looked to be a tea/cafe shop with open walls for people to come in and out. They sat down on a table with a circular orb in the middle and a menu on the table.
They waited for a while until a waiter would come but it wasn’t what they were expecting. “Hello. what would you like today?” A voice came out of the orb and soon a female waitress appeared.
“Umm, I would like this ura tea please. What about you Ayus?” Ayus was looking at the menu in with an extremely confused look. “No, know.” Alviss let out a chuckle. “Make that two ura tea and some light pastries please.”
“Ok, I’ll be with you in a moment.” The image disappeared and they waited once more. Within a couple of minutes the same waitress came with their tea and small cookies. “Here you go. That will be twelve bronze and thirty five bronze coins please.”
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Alviss paid for the food and they enjoyed themselves. The tea was an odd color green with spots of brown. He eventually drank it. “Hmm, not that bad, now for the cookies.” From the tea to the cookies, they were all delicious. They relaxed and enjoyed themselves while taking in the sights of the people walking around and the city.
After finishing up, they continued on their way. They walked all over the place and eventually came to the center of town with a giant statue there. Finally Alviss decided to take a rest under the tree to recuperate.
“Where, now?” Alviss was silent for a bit before finally answering. “Well the main goal is the main capital of the human continent, but the problem is that we have no idea how to get there.?”
Alviss laid down and pondered for a bit before finally giving up. “Damn it, if only we had more info.” He laid there do nothing until something caught his eye. A group of female in armor walked by. Unlike the guards, their armor was more practical.
“They don’t look like guards. Hmm, I wonder.” Alviss quickly got up and followed them with Ayus following him. Soon they came to a fairly large building with a sign that read, Adventure Guilds.
“I knew it. Looks like today's a lucky day after all.” They made their way in and was met with a cool feeling. A breeze seemed to have passed through their body. On the ceilings were bright blue orbs that seemed to create the aura that was putting them at ease.
They continued in and soon reached the central area of the building, it was a large room with a bar and tables along it. There was a flat space on the other side of the room with a large bulletin board. And in the center was a small circular desk area.
As they made their way through, they caught the attention of most of the adventurers there. They all stared at the new visitors with a mixture of confusion and curiosity. Alviss looked around and took note of the adventures.
Most were dressed similar to him and had on light armor and were equipped with medium to large weapons. They walked all the way up to one of the walls of the building which was covered with a giant world map.
“Whoa.” Alviss’s breath was taken away as he looked at the map. Even though he had seen the world from above, seeing it now was still amazing. Alviss quickly regain his senses and looked around.
After a minute, Alviss located the town. “Wow, we’re farther than I thought.” He was still looking at it until someone tapped his shoulder. “Hello, ma’am. You seem new here, how may I help you.”
Alviss didn’t think that someone would come up to him. He cleared his throat before answering. “Umm, hello. We were just checking the map that’s all. Planning the road ahead, you can say.”
“I see. Well, if the distance is great, then would the reason for your visit would be to hire an escort?”
“Escort?”
“Yes. So long as you have the money, you can hire an escort from the adventuring guild.” Alviss pondered on what to do with the new information. “I see. Give me a secon--.”
“What do you mean I can’t go!!”
A loud scream rang through the building as everyone turned to the source. Alviss walked up a bit and found that the source came from the receptionist desk.
A rather small girl in an odd purple and star vest along with a skirt could be seen. She also held a metal wand looking thing. The oddest thing of all was a rather large hat that gave the image of a stereotypical magician.
Standing next to her was a maid. It was an odd sight at she was much taller than her. She had on the typical maid uniform aside from a two handed sword on the back along with metal gauntlets.
As Alviss came closer, the scene unraveled as she was talking with a receptionist. “Um….It’s like I said ma’am, we can’t have an escort.”
“What the h*ll is that suppose to mean? All I want is a lousy escort, what’s wrong with that.” said the little girl as the receptionist tried to answer back.
“With all due respect ma’am Trasy Dock is a fair distance away. Not to mention the path to there is treacherous. One of our best teams currently away, but we can get you there in about a week when they come back.”
“A week?!?! I need to get there as fast as I can! There are many adventures here, just send them!”
“That may be true but we can’t risk their lives on something like this without absolute certainty.” the sound of teeth being ground could be heard. “I can use magic up to rank 4, and my maid is just as strong.”
Whisper could be heard from the different adventures. ‘Rank 4? By the chatter it seems like this is a huge feat.’ thought Alviss as he continued to listen to the conversation. The receptionist didn’t back down however. “That may be impressive but that alone won’t change anything.”
The little girl and receptionist continued to got at it as Alviss turned his attention back. “Where exactly is this Trasy Dock?”
The recipient looked at the map before pointing at it. It looked to be halfway through the capital and where they were. “The reason for the reluctance is because the trek is long along with monsters. I hear some are as strong as a Leongua.”
Alviss took in what she said. Soon an idea came to his head. “Ayus, follow me.” Alviss and Ayus made their way to the little girl.
“How about hiring us?” Alviss cutted in the conversation. They all turned towards them. “Who are you? You don’t look like any adventure.”
“That’s because we aren’t. We’re just travelers passing by to the capital but we’re just as strong.” The little girl inspected the two. “You don’t look that special.”
Alviss flashed a small grin and opened up the bag and produced a fairly large piece of pelt from the Leongua that Alviss killed. “This...this is a leonuga pelt!”
Alviss couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle. “That’s right. And for your information, I killed that one by myself. the pelt is a small trophy.”
The girl’s eye widen even more when she heard that Alviss killed it by himself. “And my friends here is just as strong. You have my word on that.” Soon the chatter began louden while the girl regained her composure.
“While this feat is impressive. Only having two people is rather concerning.” Alviss planned out his next words and quickly implement them. “That may be true but a large group will only be cumbersome. By the urgency in your voice, you’re in a hurry.”
Her face twisted in a small rage but Alviss pushed on before she talked back. “Well you have two choice, either take our offer or wait for a week. Like I said before, we’re heading towards the capital, in a way we’re both helping each other.”
The little girl held her gaze with Alviss for a couple of minutes. “What are your names?”
“I’m Alviss my friend here is Ayus.”
“Alviss?” said the little girl who was more confused. “What kind of name is that?”
Alviss is simply shrugged his shoulder. “So is that all your questions?” The little girl continued to shift her gaze between Alviss and Ayus. “Just one more question. How much?”
It took a second before Alviss realized what she meant. Alviss didn’t consider that before so he was slow to respond. “Well… How does one gold sound.”
Alviss took a shot in the dark, hoping that it wasn’t too outrageous. The little girl converse with the maid before answering. “Seventy silver coins as down payment. The rest when we get there.”
Alviss tried his hard to conceal his smile. “That seems fair. When do you want to leave?”
“Tomorrow morning.” replied the little girl immediately. Alviss weighed his opinions before answering. “All right.”
“Meet us at the west gate at sun rise. Any later and you won’t get your money.” The little girl and the maid soon made their way out, followed by Alviss and Ayus shortly after.
Once they were far enough apart Alviss let out a huge sigh of relief. “Man, that worked out better than I expected.”
“Husband, happy?” Alviss looked to his side to see Ayus with a semi odd confuse look on her face. “Yeah I’m happy. Not only do we have a way to head to the capital we also got some powerful companions as well. Not to mention she’s a caster, I wonder if there’s any books or something for me to read and learn.”
They continued on their way until it was night time. They looked around for an inn and they found one near the edge of the city. They paid for one night along with a dinner meal. After the meal they cleaned themselves up with the inn bath pool.
Soon it was time to go to sleep. After dressing and drying up, they headed to their room. Inside was a large room with two beds on either side. Ayus walked up and looked at the bed with awe. Soon she jumped on it and enjoyed herself by playing with the bed.
Alviss suppressed a chuckle at the child like action of Ayus. They quickly got into bed and blew out the candle. Alviss went to sleep almost instantly from the soft bed.
That night was one of Alviss most pleasent nights since arriving in the world. Within a matter of hours, the sun was slowly rising. Alviss slowly woke up and got ready for the adventure ahead.
