Alviss only stared before finally regaining his senses. At first he thought it was some form of illusion but quickly realized the gravity of the situation. Swimming towards them was the Kuplios from before. It’s wound was still visible along with the spear.
“Well add having the ability to swim really fast as well to the bucket list.” said Alviss with an odd sense of humor and horror. He looked back to Scarlett who was up and giving orders again. He regained his footing and made his way over.
“How did that thing find us?” screamed Alviss who caught Scarlett attention. “That thing suddenly jumped from the forest and chased after us.” Once more the ship shook again. “Why is it chasing us?!”
“My guess is that we’re food. So far we haven’t seen any livestock or anything. Most likely we’re its meal in quite some time.” said Scarlet as the ship shook again, knocking her down. Alviss looked back to see it constantly ramming into the ship.
“Why haven’t you tried to stop it or escape?!”
“What do you think I’m doing?! We’re going as fast as we can! But that thing is faster. Our caster’s spells barely did any damage to it.”
Alviss looked around as something caught his eye. “Why don’t you use the cannons?” said Alviss pointing to the main deck with several cannons.
“If you haven’t noticed, that thing is attacking us from behind!” screamed Scarlett as she split her attention between him and ordering her pirate's around.
Alviss ran out of ideas and simply looked back and forth to try and come up with a strategy. ‘Come on! Think, think, think!’ screamed Alviss in his head. After considering different plans and their risks, he finally decided to go ahead with one.
“Scarlett, I have a plan.” She didn’t pay any mind to him for a while before she brought her attention to him. “Don’t keep me waiting, tell me!”
“Make some space here at the back and position the cannons to face it. Station some of your best casters back there as well to help attack.”
“That...That isn’t a bad plan but…” Alviss cut her off as he wasn’t finish explaining. “Along with them will be Lily and the rest. I’ll also need some of our equipment.”
“What?! You think I’ll just release my prisoners, you’ll just escape!” Alviss couldn’t believe what he just heard and chastised her. “I don’t think you know this but we’re being chased by a giant monster! Not to mention we’re surrounded by water, even if we jumped, we’ll be eaten by the that thing. Face it, we’re stuck together either we help each other escape or we get eaten by that thing.”
Scarlett looked back at him and her crew. She stayed silent for a while that made Alviss worried about what she would answer with. “Sara take a couple of the crew and move the cannon to the aft. Casters, those who can fight also come back here. Shia get the prisoners and bring them up here. Also bring out their equipment from the safe.”
After breaking the silence and giving the orders, they all sprang into action. Alviss assisted some of the pirates in moving the cannons. Soon four cannons were stationed at the back when Lily and the rest were on deck.
“Alviss, ok?” Ayus immediately ran over to Alviss to patted him down to make sure he was fine. “What’s going on?” said Lily as she tried to take in the sudden action.
“That.” Alviss pointed behind him and to Lily’s credit she didn’t panicked as much as before. “What do we do?!”
“Yes what is your plan?” Scarlett walked over and was waiting for the rest of his plan.
“Currently we can’t hit it, our spells won’t reach it and neither will the cannons as the water is deep. But...we should be near the docks.”
“What does that have to do with anything?” spoke Scarlett with clear annoyance. “That means the water would start to get a bit more shallow.”
It took a moment before Lily figured out what Alviss was trying to say. “That means it won’t be able to simply dive under our attack.”
“That’s a great plan and all but it can simply retreat.” questioned Scarlett almost immediately. “Not if we take it there.” replied Lily immediately.
“Where?” this time Alviss questioned Lily’s answer. “If I remember correctly there should be small shallow lake near the docks. If we can take it there then trap it by positioning the ship at the entrance.”
Scarlett eased up a bit but quickly brought her head back down. “Assuming we do trap it, we would need to kill it as well.”
“Well you did say you wanted the reputation from killing it, so here’s your chance.” joked Alviss, Scarlett on the other hand didn’t see the humor in it. “It looks like we don’t have much of a choice.”
She walked over and took over the steering wheel. “Where do we go?” Lily talked with the maid, telling her to guide Scarlett to the location. Soon they got to work.
All the cannons were fitted and manned while the casters were evenly aligned. Around that time one of the pirate walked up with their weapons and equipment.“Ayus take the bow and provide as much fire as you can. Don’t worry about if you don’t do much damage.”
“Right.” Ayus grabbed the bow and quickly climbed up the mast. Lily received her catalyst back while Alviss got back his sword and the infinity bag. “That reminds me, all you can use is fireball. How are you going to attack?”
“I was about to get to that, where is your spell book.”
“I stored it in the bag when we were about to be captured. What does that have to do with anything?” The ship rocked again grabbing their attention. “You worry about your thing, I’ll worry about mine.”
Lily wanted to continue but the situation was growing dire. She ran over while Alviss rummaged through the bag until he finally retrieve the book. “Come on, come on, where was that page.”
Alviss flipped through the book looking for the correct chapter. “Fire!” accompanying the command was cannon fire. Several explosions and water splash could be heard. Next were sounds of spells being fired as well while the cannons were reloading.
He shook his head to bring his attention back to the book. “Here we go.”
………….
“Fire!” Once more the pirate gave the command as cannon shot towards the Kuplios. It hit the water, around it. But before it made contact it dove down, suppressing the explosion. “Damn it!” cursed Lily out loud as nothing they were doing had any effect.
The pirates used mostly water type spells, most of which were rank 2 at most. All the Kuplios had to do was dive under and the spells wouldn't hit. The same also applied to the cannon fire. “|Electric bolt|”
A small rod of electricity formed in her hands and was thrown at it. Once more it dived down, the attack shocked the surface of the water but it didn’t seem to affect it. “Damn it.” cursed Lily again as she tried to remain calm.
“If only I had more time to regain my mana, maybe then I would be able to do damage” Lily lamented on her uselessness but quickly regained her composure.
Once more she tried to coordinate the attacks, either using spells first then cannon fire or vice versa. But the results were the same as before. “Tch. For an overgrown insect, it’s surprisingly smart.” Lily clicked her tongue with irritation. She got ready for another attack when Alviss walked up next to her.
“What are you doing here?” he didn’t respond back and simply extended his hand. “|Thunder Clap.|” electricity and spark began to form and pop all around his hand. More and more appeared until he fired off a stream of electricity.
The Kuplios dived under but this time the results was different. Before the attack hit, it started to break off until there were several attacks. It hit all around, electrocuting the water all around.
“How did you do that?” Lily was surprise at the sudden attack. The attack was a rank 2 spell, something that would take time and patient to learn. “Are you going on about that again?” said Alviss.
“First, you have those rare items, next you learn magic so easily, and finally your a male. You’re …. you’re just abnormal.”
“If we make it out of here, I’ll tell you everything. But for now we need to focus.”
Lily followed Alviss sight to see the Kuplios making its way back. “That thing is persistent, I’ll give it that.”
“That’s because most of the casters here use water base spells. They can barely do any damage.” Alviss looked back and all around. “Can’t we freeze the water or something like that?”
“We can but there’s not enough time for the water to freeze. Not to mention, it can just power through the ice.” replied one of the pirates.
“We just need to stall it for a just a little longer, we’re almost there. Which reminds me.” Lily took a step back and brought her hands together. Soon a rainbow color orb formed in her hands. She pointed upwards and fired it which exploded and spread around.
“What was that?” Lily didn’t bother giving him a full answer. “You don’t need to worry about that now.” She started to fire off spells again, Alviss wanted to continue the conversation but eventually followed along.
They continue to alternate between spells and using the cannons. This went one for several minutes before the maid came over. “We’ll be reaching the lake within a minutes but we have a problem.”
She spoke in a tone that greatly worried Alviss. “What’s the wrong?”
“From the spotters report, the path is blocked. We’ll need to take a detour, but if we do take the detour, then we’ll be trapping ourselves in lake.”
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
Lily was frantically looking around, trying to find a solution. “What’s blocking the way?”
“A large fallen tree.” the answer that the maid gave only dishearten Lily even more. “Is there anyway way around?”
“There is, we’re close enough to land that Alviss can jump out and distract the Kuplios, herding it towards the lake.”
“What? Who came up with that idea?” asked Alviss with surprise and fear. “Captain Scarlett.” clicked his tongue at the obvious answer. “Alviss wanted to say no but the situation was getting worse and worse.
“How far is it from here?”
“It should be a straight path to the lake. The lake is circular lake with an opening for incoming water. You’ll distract it while we take the detour and get everything ready.”
Before Alviss could ask any more, Ayus jumped down and landed near them. “I, come.” Alviss stood there with wide eyes before trying to persuade her. “Ayus, you’re still hurt, beside…”
“No! I go!” Ayus sudden declaration surprised us all. Alviss wanted to continue arguing but Lily brought them back. “We don’t have time for this! We’re almost at the detour.”
Alviss grinded his teeth as he conflicted between his choices. “Fine, just be careful.” Ayus nodded in response the two jumped from the deck. Alviss quickly recovered when he landed and focus his attention to the Kuplios. “|Thunder clap.|”
Once more Alviss fired off the spell at it. The Kuplios was too occupied attacking the ship that it didn’t noticed the attack. It let out a screech as it turned its attention to Alviss, giving the ship enough time to escape. Alviss and Ayus began to run. It stood there weighing its opinion before giving chase after Alviss.
Luckily they had a head start as it was able to catch up to them, but they still retained a good distance. They continued to run until they noticed the lake gradually getting bigger and bigger. They turned and eventually reached the lake.
The lake also functioned as a small beach with sand and rock at the shore. They made their way inward just as the Kuplios rounded the corner and soon trapped them.. Alviss and Ayus held their ground while trying to come up with a strategy. ‘We can’t beat it, we just have to wait for the others. But the question is, for how long.’ pondered Alviss as the Kuplios slowly walked towards them.
“Ayus, head towards the forest and hide there. I will distract it.” Alviss readied his sword. “No, I stay.”Ayus wouldn’t listen to Alviss. “Just stay out of my way, you can’t keep up with it!” Sensing an opportunity, it charged in swinging its tail.
They both dodged out of the way, Ayus took the initiative and ran around it while firing arrows. But they simply bounced off the shell. While it's attention was on Ayus, Alviss charged charged in. “|Dash.| |Heavy slash.|” Alviss charged in for a powerful horizontal attack that managed to break through it’s leg shell and cut off some of its leg. Blood spilled from it as he backed off.
Similar to how they fought it the first time, they used the same method of attacking when the opportunity showed itself. For the first couple of minutes their strategy worked out. But like before again, it started to learn. Soon it stopped attacking and backed off, watching their movement.
Alviss and Ayus regrouped to catch their breath. As Alviss looked over to Ayus he could see the empty quiver on his back. “Damn, just where are they?” They were holding it at bay but eventually it would overpower them. While Alviss was deep in his thoughts, the Kuplios attacked once more. They began to separate just as it swung its tail at Alviss. “|Counter slash.|” Alviss blocked the attack while giving a large cut, seemingly damaging it.
A smile started to form up on Alviss’s face as something caught his eye, its other tail. It charged in between Ayus and Alviss, blocking his line of sight allowing the other tail to have a sneak attack. He didn’t even have time to do anything and simply braced himself for the attack.
“Noo!” He peeked through one of his eyes to see Ayus running over. She tried to push him out of the way but both were knocked backward. Ayus took the full brunt of the attack.
Luckily for him he suffered minor damage, but Ayus wasn’t so lucky. “Ayus!” Alviss ran over and fell on his knees near her. Ayus’s eyes were closed with bruises and bloody wounds. He tried to wake her up but her still body simply lied there.
He opened the infinity bag and tried to pull out all the healing potion he had but could only produced two healing. He quickly gave them to Ayus to drink but she still show no sign of movement after finishing up.
*****flashback*****
“They’re are people from another world, people I meet only through chance. I have no real connection with them.”
“It doesn’t matter if they live or not, so long as I can finally get back home.”
**************
“Damn it, Damn it, DAMN IT!” screamed Alviss with tears running down his cheeks. “Damn you!” screamed Alviss as he began attack. “|Thunder clap| |Fireball|” In his rage Alviss release a flurry of spells one after the other.
They hit everywhere that was in front of him. Most would miss the Kuplios but some managed to hit it and caused it damage. “Die!” Alviss didn’t care anymore and simply attacked and attacked. Smoke began to rise and surround the area but that didn’t stop Alviss. He continued to do so for something which could have been minutes or hours in his rage before finally stopping.
Smoke and small debris floated around from all the spells. Alviss’s loud and ragged breath could be heard as he desperately tried to calm down. Tears were still flowing down his cheeks with dust floating around. As the smoke began to clear, it showed the Kuplios heavily damaged but still alive.
“F*ck.” Alviss let out a small curse as his body fell. Both his mind and body were exhausted. All he could do was look at it. He didn’t even bother to move or anything. And he wondered whether or not he gave up or simply he didn’t care anymore. Memories of what God said and what his own reflection said echo through his mind again. “Why...Why even bother?” His body ached all over while his mind was numb.
He merely looked out for the Kuplios at it simply trudged it’s way over. Thoughts ran through his head of what might happen when he finally dies again. “Wonder if God’s going to piss?” Alviss jokingly thought in his mind as he simply waited.
But a noise caught his attention once more. A popping noise heading straight towards their direction. Soon the image began to get cleaner, it was a spell. It hit the Kuplios, surprising it.
“Don't die on me yet Alviss!” Alviss scanned the area and found the ship headed toward them. It turned over on its side, blocking the Kuplios from escaping. Lily along with the maid and pirates jumped off and ran towards Alviss.
Lily along with the casters began firing spells, bombarding it to give them time to surround it. “Are you alright?” Lily and the maid finally made it over to him. “Ayus.” replied Alviss weakly .
The maid moved over to her and started to inspect her. “She’s alright but e need to treat her fast.” Lily nodded and brought her attention back to the Kuplios. The pirates fired off spells, managing to damage it. “|Kinetic spark orb|”
Green balls of electricity popped into existence all around Lily. She pointed her finger towards it and the orbs flew towards it. Loud popping noise accompanied the attack when they hit the Kuplios, paralyzing it.
“Let’s go!.” One of the pirates went over and slump Alviss over her shoulder while the maid carried Ayus. The other pirates started to retreat away from the Kuplios. Within a minute they were all clear.
“Fire!” After the ship locked itself in place, they prepared the cannons and waited for an opportunity to attack. After finally seeing a chance, Scarlett gave the order and the cannons fired.
A loud booming noise escaped from the cannons as the shells flew towards it. The sound of explosion and cracking filled the air. It gave one last loud ear piercing scream before finally falling dead.
For the first thirty seconds, there was no noise. But soon there were cheers and screams from everyone. Alviss felt ecstatic as well. “It’s over. It’s finally over.”
“Not quite yet.” replied Lily. It took a moment before Alviss registered what Lily meant but. the pirates soon surrounded them once more. “I must say, you’re even more impressive than I originally thought Alviss.”
Scarlett was perched up on her ship, looking down. “That just makes your value even higher. Now then be a good boy and don’t struggle.” Scarlett ended the conversation and ordered the pirates to round them up.
“I’m afraid we won’t be joining you again?” spoke Lily that confused Scarlett for a moment. “And why is that?” All she did was smile and Scarlett got her answer. “Captain, we have incoming ships!”
“What?! who are they?”
“They’re border patrol from Yasu Docks.” The moment the pirate said the docks, Alviss remember when Lily fired off that rainbow orb. Scarlett looked back at Lily who wore a triumph smile on her face.
“I see. During that time you fire off a distress beacon. And you picking this area also worked to your advantage. I’m impressed.” Scarlett showed a defeated smile. “Ma’am, what do we do?”
Scarlett looked back down, weighing her opinions of trying to capture them again. “We’re leaving. Everyone get back on the ship!” The pirates broke off and climbed back on the ship. “It’s your victory for now, but I will be back for him.”
Scarlett finally left with her crew just several ships were making their way over. Two gave chase while one stopped near where they were. Several people got off and made their way over.
“Now it's finally over.”
