"Damn, this is—" Grey stared anxiously at the lava slowly coming down of the Mt. Vermont as the black ashes slowly fell from the cloudy sky.
The people started panicking and some started running aimlessly while screaming.
"This is the end!"
"The volcano has awakened, something is coming!" People screamed in terror as they all prayed in despair and started running aimlessly.
Grey thought for a second about his mom and dad until he could hardly remember that they weren't around when he left the house which is a good thing since his grandpa's house was at the base of the mountain and was about to be destroyed by those rolling boulders of lava. It was such a relief. Grey quickly turned his head and faced Ryner who's also having the same confused expression as he was. In the middle of that commotion, they couldn't simply help but worry about the party that raided the tunnel.
"Tch!" Ryner clicked his tongue before shouting at the townspeople: "You all should calm down!"
With his voice, all the people running about halted and looked at him.
"How are we supposed to survive this?" One of the townspeople asked him with fears visible in his eyes.
"I don't—" The moment Ryner tried to make an excuse, the ground slightly shook followed by people in front of him staring somewhere else behind him. That caused him to look behind him and saw a tall stone wall placed behind him. He then saw Grey standing above it with a desperate look on his face before casting another spell, a wind magic that blew away the black dust scattered all over the atmosphere.
"This won't do much, but I want to atleast do what I can to minimize the damage." Grey said before jumping onto someone's roof and then landing on the ground, creating another stone wall that is as tall as the first one.
Seeing Grey trying his best, Ryner suddenly got an idea. "Alright, I want everyone who can use earth and water magic to gather in two separate line!" He shouted, catching the attention of the townspeople. 'I highly doubt that they could create a wall as tall as that but I have a better idea in minds.'
"Grey, can you hold the lava from going this way for about a minute or two." Ryner spoke, looking at the lave already flowing to the base of the mountain, close to Jurgen's house.
Grey just nodded his reply and ran speedily towards the base of the mountain. He was occasionally looking around, trying to find his parents from all the commotion happening in the town.
On the meantime, with all the people gathered in groups in front of Ryner. He told them to pair into two people, with one water attribute user and an earth magic user and told them to spread throughout the village.
"Seems like you're having trouble." A female voice sounded behind Ryner, causing him to turn around, facing that way. She saw a red haired slender woman, walking out of the guild barracks.
"Rose?" Ryner quickly recognized the woman before quickly approaching her. "You shouldn't be out here, get back—"
"I don't mind," She said with a calm gaze. "With all this ruckus, I can't sleep and rest anyway!"
Ryner wanted to converse with her more but he knew that their running out of time so he quickly ignored his worries and proceeded to join the townspeople that he ordered to scatter all over the village.
"Now everyone! Use your magic to soften the soil in front of you!" Ryner shouted. "Do it as fast as you can." He then flew above using wind magic to look into the situation.
When he glanced at the base of the mountain, he saw Grey struggling to hold a huge amount of lava trapped by his stone walls while slashing large boulders of rocks that came to his way. Some of the lava are also escaping the rock barriers and flowing down on its way to the main village. Jurgen's house was also nowhere to be seen and the entire base of the village was also filled with boiling lava.
"Damn it, we won't make it in time." Ryner gritted his teeth with a desperate expression.
Meanwhile, while holding off the lava, Grey was regretfully staring at the pool of lava trapped by his stone walls. He wasn't able fo save his grandpa's house and everything inside it is now completely soaked in hot and boiling lava.
"I can't hold it any longer." He said while struggling. He then proceeded to add another layer of stone wall behind the one he created before as he felt the mass of the lava began to increase at a higher rate. Staring to his right, he saw the giant Boundarian trees being mowed down by the lava that came down the mountain.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"With all those trees being destroyed, we might get another visitors coming on our way." Grey quickly flew and slashed another giant boulder that rolled down from the vent of the volcano.
"Tch, things might get even worse at this rate." He said before looking at the second layer of wall that he just created recently and saw a small crack on it where lava slowly flows. At that point he knew that it was already hopeless to use another stone wall after he saw several boulders of lava rolling towards his way. He couldn't stop both at once, so he desperately chose to stop the boulders.
Grey just faced behind him and yelled at Ryner, "Is everything ready yet?" before hurriedly flying away with his wind magic, and struck the rolling boulders with bolts of lightning.
The crack on the wall began to spread and with the lava's mass, it got destroyed. All the mana suspended by the walls began to flow out and with its weight, it started flowing on a faster rate, swallowing and melting everything it touches. Soon, it reached the part of the village that is closed to the mountain, destroying every houses present there. Luckily, all the civilians has been moved away sooner with the help of the other volunteers.
Seeing the lava coming to their way, Ryner signalled every by raising his hand. "Alright everyone, on my signal use every water spell you have!"
Upon hearing this, Grey got the idea and followed through by also preparing to cast a massive water spell.
Watching the lava coming on their way, Ryner prepared to give the signal at the right timing. Then, Ryner suddenly dropped his hand as a signal, letting everyone to see him by doing it while flying in the air.
After receiving the signal, all the townspeople who could use water magic conjured and fired water turrets at the incoming lava. Grey also used a water spell that poured a large quantity of water on the flowing lava. The soft soil below where the lava flowed was also soft and muddy because of the villagers, causing it to slow down considerably. The water spell also helped to slow it down by hardening the surface, turning it into a massive molten plate.
It took a tons of them to use water spells just to stop the lava and still, almost half of the town was swallowed and mowed down by the destructive liquid. Many houses were destroyed and the guild barracks was almost caught. And at that moment, no one even knows if how many of them survived or how many died. The only thing Ryner knew was that he managed to save atleast a part of the village.
"Oh god!" Some of the villagers cried and prayed upon witnessing the horrible scene in front of them. "How could this happen?"
Succumbing into despair, some townspeople held their heads with fears engraved in their hearts. They hopelessly dropped on their knees, simply not accepting the reality in front of their naked eyes. Some were lost in thoughts and seemingly couldn't find any words to describe what just happened.
They just experienced a volcanic eruption, something that haven't happened even a hundred years ago. The reason why the volcano was acting like that was unknown to them. Luckily, the lava flow and violent explosions has stopped after a few minutes and it seems like some strange phenomenon was happening at its vent with all those strange light and ashes coming from the top of the mountain.
"Grey!"
A woman voice suddenly spoke behind everyone followed by footsteps as if running. Her voice interrupted Ryner's current thoughts and caused him to avert his gaze towards the person.
Then Ryner saw Emily running and almost falling off balance as she wasn't looking where she was running and just staring above at Grey. She was followed by Edward carrying a broad sword and Reynold looking at around with a regretful expression.
"Oh crap! I guess we're a second late." Reynold said, walking casually and calmly towards Ryner.
"Where have you been?" Ryner quickly asked him with a surprised expression. He has no idea where these guys went during the commotion and honestly, he forgot about them during all the ruckus and now Ryner was just glad that they're alright.
"We're just near the area, buying something and I saw those things coming down of the mountain." Reynold answer truthfully while still panting with a few drops of sweat running down his face. "We tried to get here as fast as we could, but damn, all the people just keeps running from here and there, and we got caught in the commotion that leads us to evacuating everyone, helping an old lady, saving a sheep, pulling a moose stuck in someone's roof, and many other stuff." He finished his rather long story and looked at the surroundings once again. "Anyway, sorry we're late."
"What are you even saying?" Ryner whispered. At that point, he couldn't even understand what the man was talking about and just nodded consecutively. "I'm glad that you guys are fine." He replied before looking at Grey landing beside him and hoping towards his mom.
"I'm really happy to see that you're all fine mom, dad." Grey blissfully looked at his parents and immediately gazed away upon beholding their expressions. "Seems like, I've worried you again."
His parents just looked at him with a relieved expression without giving him an answer. Grey could somehow understand what they're trying to say with those gaze and just smiled back at them, feeling embarrassed and quickly broke the eye contact.
"Now that Edward is here and you guys seems all fine." Ryner suddenly interrupted the family moment and hopped out of the scene. "I guess I gotta get going now. The situation might got worse for the old man." His voice slowly lowered as he moves away from them, running towards the mountain.
"No one really could stop him." Reynold buried his face in his palm and shook his head. "He's probably worried for what kind of thing the old man would resort to if things get even worse."
"Well... I just hope that everything will turn out the way they wanted to." Emily carelessly whispered in her breath.
'Worried for each other huh?' Grey thought. Looking at Ryner dashing through the hardened lava that turned to molten rocks, he couldn't help but smirk from his thoughts. 'This world is really an interesting one.'
