The green continent, the land where the human race built their kingdom to maintain the world's balance. After several years of fighting against the army of monsters that appeared a thousand years ago, the humans have founded the Avaron kingdom all thanks to the noble sacrifice of their first monarch, king Leonelle Vermillion. The king who established peace and order in the green land of free spirits.
Although the war against magical monsters never ended, the kingdom managed to raise strong royal wizards who can fight equally against this horrifying creatures. However, due to the high standard military requirements, only a few people are chosen to join the royal military. This leads to the villages around Avaron kingdom to receive least protection against external threats.
So, the other villages and the newly appointed king agreed to raise another group of warriors. These warriors are called adventurer wizards and they joined forces with each others to form a large guild. A guild then created a smaller groups called a party, an attack force that eradicates and drive away the monsters from the villages around Avaron kingdom, keeping the commoners away from danger. With the royal wizards being the shield and the guilds being the spear.
One of the major guilds protects a small village near the foot of the Mt. Vermont, the Hotstone village. The home of the greatest artifacts and magical items, located at the far-away east-side of Avaron kingdom. This village is where Grey's grandfather and uncle lives.
"Phew... how many footstep do we need... to reach that village, mom?" Grey whined, complaining between pants as he stopped his feet from walking the ridiculous distance his eyes couldn't even dare to look at.
"A little more." His cheerful mother replied without any worries and consideration while casually walking.
"You've been saying that ever since we left the house this morning but we've been walking for over two hours now." Grey annoyingly let out a sharp sigh.
Emily looked at him, almost chuckling and said, "We're close, I promise.", before walking towards an obviously long road.
Tch... seriously?! Grey complained in his head.
Emily's statement wasn't a lie, the distance between their house and the Hotstone village is quite far from each other, taking atleast three hours to travel by foot.
Grey has been walking the distance and his young body couldn't simply take it. The sky is perfectly blue and without any trees around, there will be no shade against the sunlight that grills him like a fresh meat.
Moreover, This is outrageous! He raged in his thought after looking at himself, carrying all his own clothings, books, and other things that he owned in one massive backpack.
"Why in world are we carrying everything as if we're staying in that place for a long period of time?!" Grey screamed as his blood boiled.
"Because we are." Edward bluntly replied with a straight face.
Grey was dumbfounded for a moment, "huh?", his ears twitched.
"I don't know the exact details but it seems like there's some change of plans." His dad interrupted as he continued to walk straight ahead.
Change of plans huh? Grey thought as he struggled to carry his own things and even using wind magic to lighten up the load.
Huh? His thoughts suddenly stopped upon laying his eyes on a large mountain from far away in front of him.
"Look grey!"
Grey heard his mom's call, causing him to shift his eyes towards his parents and gave them a puzzled expression. "Huh?"
"Look over there!" Emily pointed her finger parallel to her gaze.
Grey quickly followed her finger with his eyes and saw it pointed at the small wooden house that sits near the mountain. Behind that house is another house and tons of smokes are rosing up to the sky.
"Is there a fire?!" Grey curiously asked, looking at Emily with worried face.
Edward chuckled and said, "There's indeed a fire, but that was intended since it's being used for forging.", before suddenly started walking on a faster pace.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
"Well, that's the Hotstone village after all." Emily added and gave her son a smirk.
That's... the place? Grey looked back at the path that they walked and then back in front of him. But just a while ago, I didn't see that mountain nor that wooden house with my naked eyes. I'm not surprised for that small house but I doubt that I wouldn't notice a mountain as huge as that. He wondered as he walked a steady pace while carrying the load on his back.
Was it a barrier spell? Grey thought, before finally reaching a large rectangular stone tablet at the side of the road with a written words that says: "Hotstone village, home of magical artifacts."
Edward took a glance at the stone tablet and then looked at Emily with his eyes brows up. "It's been forever, isn't it?' He asked with a blissful smile.
Emily then reply, "Yeah, almost 10 years I guess.", rubbing her head before looking at her son, Grey who was still fixedly gazing at the stone tablet.
They both watched their son closely and waited for his next actions. Not too long before, Grey dropped his backpack and everything he was carrying.
Emily and Edward blinked a few time with confusion. To their surprise, violent wind suddenly blows around Grey before he started levitating up into the air, lifting his own body using wind magic. He then propelled himself into the air by releasing strong and focused wind from under his feet, flying to the air like a bird without wings. "I got some spared mana." He stated before flying away above the village.
"Would you look at that." Emily said, shaking her head. "He just left... menacingly!"
Edward buried his face into his palm before responding, "Well, he's a child with a grown up brain.", before shrugging his shoulders. "I can't believe that he can even harness that much mana to be able to fly like that." He smiled with a teary eyes.
Meanwhile, the townspeople of the Hotstone village are having a busy day after the upcoming visit of the queen was announced. A tons of housework and some decorations are needs to be done and the queen will arrive the next day, which is giving them a lot of pressure.
"Don't you think I'm too old to be doing this, Reynold?" A white-bearded old man whined as he dug a hole large enough to fit his fist using a shovel. His eyebrows are curled and have a serious expression on his face.
"I understand what you're saying uncle, but you can't fit a damn grown-up tree in that hole that you just dug!" A middle-aged man replied, almost screaming in annoyance while watching the old man do his thing.
"Well, let's cut the roots then, what...you think?" He jokingly stated before yawning in boredom, "Aghhh, this is getting ridiculous... this whole royalty visit I mean." He added, staring at the busy villagers from far away with his sleepy dark-blue eyes.
"Well I think the entire purpose of that visit is to boost the kingdom's overall influence over this area." The middle aged man stood on his feet and stretched his arms, bending his body backwards.
"But I don't think that's all there is—"
Suddenly, Reynold's ears twitched after hearing some gossiping noises coming from the other side of the village. Before he could even check, the commotion reached the other villagers near them as they also started pointing their fingers at the sky.
"What the fuck is going on?" The old white-haired man questioned the man beside him, both of them looking at each other, dumbfounded.
"I don't know what the commotion is all about but it's probably some serious shit." Reynold stated, looking at the villagers from a distance.
"Look! a kid... it's a flying kid!" One of the townspeople yelled, causing both of them to look above the sky.
"Swooosh!"
The old man caught a glance at a small vague figure, hovering in the air.
"A kid?" For a moment, he thought he was seeing things. A kid really flew across his vision, he tried to follow the small human figure with his eyes. It's not that he was surprised by the flying thing but the next thing he saw after turning his gaze left him staring with eyes widened.
"Emily?" The only question that left the old man's wrinkled lips as he stared at the black-haired woman walking beside a tall white-haired man.
"Dad?" Emily narrowed his eyes and walked towards the bearded old man. "Why the hell do you look so surprise?" She asked, letting out a sharp sigh.
The old man named Jurgen replied, "No, I'm just surprised that you really came.", and scratched his head.
"Yeah, we're certainly are." The middle aged guy beside the oldman named Reynold commented before chuckling.
"Ohh, Reynold you're here." Emily glance at the brown haired man. "Anyway, to remove all your doubts and inside questions, I came here because Grey has been looking forward to meeting you." She said, gazing back at her old man.
"That's right!" Edward replied while nodding his head.
"Speaking of that kid..." Old Jurgen bent his body sideward and looked behind Emily and Edward with excitement. When he saw no Grey behind them, he suddenly asked, ".... where is he?" His expression quickly changed from overly excited to a disappointed frown.
"Well–"
"Watch out!" Reynold warned and shouted, pointing at the sky.
Before the old man could even turn his head to look, his instinct pulled his feet to move away from where he was standing. Almost before a heavy object landed on the ground causing it to slightly shake.
"What the heck?!" The old man uttered in shock, staring at the vague figure in front of him enveloped by dust.
"A-Aghhh! That was close!" A young low-pitched child voiced. He stood in front of the old man with a tensed shoulder and an innocent smile while rubbing his head.
The old man pointed a finger at him, "You damn—"
Before he could even finish speaking, Emily quickly interrupted, "That was dangerous Grey.", she worriedly said, letting out a relieved sigh, "You should be careful next time."
"Grey??" The old man Jurgen stared at the young man with narrowed eyes, tilting his head. He then looked at Emily and Edward and asked, "Is this really my grandson?" raising one eyebrow.
