The spirit marks, also known as insignia, the power that manifest upon a person's birth, the begining of magic. Although all spirit host are considered wizards, their fighting type divided them into three different magical classes: the mage, berserker, and a dual-caster.
A mage class host possesses the ability to dominate the external world by casting powerful spells, usually ranged ones, and have the ability to influence the environment through magic. A mage is unique for having a silver-colored spirit mark and known for having high magical frequency.
On the other hand, the berserker class uses magic to enhance the physical body. They can also use weapons that are compatible for their attributes as a medium to channel magic to their environment just like a mage. Berserkers are unique for having the red-colored spirit mark and are known for their toughness, brute strength and speed.
Lastly, the dual-caster, this magical class has the most difficulty using magic because of how large the mana needed for this class. Dual casters basically have mastery over mage and berserker abilities, making this class the strongest class of all. This class is unique for having a purple-colored magical mark.
In a world full of catastrophic creatures, true magic is truly necessary. Other humans who failed to acquire such strengths was thrown away to the bottom of the food chain, becoming the prey of the dominant ones. That's always been the absolute rule of this world, the powerful oppressors remains at the top and the weaker creatures should grovel at the bottom.
However, the arrival of a such being was never anticipated. Someone who does not possess the power of divinity yet stood equal with them. A person that possess the power greater than anyone they've seen before.
Edward felt the benevolent power that sends shiver down his spine. He stood and asked himself, 'Who is this person?... Is he really my son?' while staring at Grey who's standing on his feet, eyes closed, and enveloped by an aura of overwhelming mana that could drown him anytime.
"What is he doing?" Emily whispered before slowly approaching him. "G-Grey?" She tried calling his name in trembling voice while slowly walking towards him worriedly.
Grey was unfazed, it seems like his consciousness is somewhere far away to hear his mother's call.
'Is he sleeping again?' The worried father thought. "Grey!... Cut that out!" He yelled with anxious face. He got no time for any joke or whatsoever. The way he sees Grey at the moment seemed to have frightened him for some reason.
"Swooosh!"
Suddenly, the dense mana surrounding Grey suddenly vanished in an instant. His father's loud call must've completely pulled him out from the state of deep focus.
'Huh?'
Grey was dumbfounded for a second after he opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was his parents' worried faces looking at him. 'W-What... happened?' He asked himself with clueless expression.
Almost instantly, his mother run towards and wrapped her warm arms around him. "Oh god, Grey..." She was heavily panting, "... You made us really worried." She said as tears slowly fall down from her worried eyes.
"What was that son?!" Edward asked, trying to hide his worry with a smile but was obviously shocked from the look on his eyes a d all over his face.
Grey couldn't answer because he is also asking the same question to himself. 'What the hell just happened?' He questioned himself. "That feeling just now... I'm sure I was awakened. But..." He lifted his hand to take a glance at his palm. 'It wasn't the same feeling when I first awaken in my previous life. This feels like... a mana of a higher caliber... a magic that perhaps I do not know?' That was the only thing he could come up to explain the nostalgic feeling.
"Hey, Grey... I asked you a question!"
Edward's voice startled him and interrupted his thoughts. "Wha–... What is it, dad?" Grey narrowed his eyes, giving his dad a confused look.
"I'm asking you... What was that just now?" Edward repeated, letting out a sigh before sitting down on the ground.
"That mana that I feel just now, is it yours?" Emily added.
"A-Ah... I think I've just awakened my magic." Grey responded, scratching his chin while displaying an innocent smile.
For a moment, silence filled the air. His parents looked at each other with awe before finally someone decided to break the silence.
"Haaaaah?" It was a delayed reaction coming from Emily. Her face is full of surprise while staring at her son.
"Awaken?..." Edward wondered, "... but you're five?... Isn't that too late for awakening. Moreover, I've never heard of anyone being awaken this late... not a single one." He stated, taking a glimpse of his son's premature body, lifting his shirt and looking all over it. "Moreover, you still doesn't seem to possess any spirit mark."
"Yeah, that's right." Grey agreed. "I was expecting something to happen because I'm in a different world, but I guess the results are the same. What important is that I regained my overwhelming mana pool from my previous life." He accidentally whispered loudly, causing Edward's ears to twitch.
'Huh?!'
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"W-What?!" Another surprised reaction from his father. "Previous life?... What are you saying Grey?" He asked in trembling voice with a puzzled look on his face.
Grey inhaled deeply and buried his face into his palm, 'Maybe it's time to tell them.' He thought, before sitting down the green field, patting his chest. He finally made up his mind and managed to gather all the courage to tell his parents about the truth of his birth.
"Father... mother..." He let out a long sigh and said, "I have something I've been meaning to tell you." His serious eyes are gazing at his parent's puzzled faces.
And so, Grey proceeded to tell them the story of how he came to this world and everything that happened in his past life. But he kept the truth about Zect and the demon king to avoid anymore questions from them.
The air once again was filled with awkward silence that left them staring at each other.
Edward sighed before deciding to speak, "So are you telling us that you came from a place called 'Zenith', and got reborn to this place?" He asked with curiosity, narrowing his eyes.
"That's right." Grey replied quickly with blank expression.
"I see," His mom uttered with a serious face, "Hehe..." She chuckled, turning her head, looking at Edward's anxious eyes.
"What?..." Grey suddenly noticed their eyes. "Do you not believe me?" He asked while looking at them, trying to figure out their doubts.
The parents looked at each other and then looked back at him. Emily shook her head and said, "No..." with a pleased smile.
"It's not that we doesn't believe what you're saying. It's just that, it doesn't really matter whether it's true or not." Edward stated as Grey listened carefully.
Emily rubbed his son's head and said, "We already have the suspicion that you're not a normal person ever since you were born. You are special grey, it doesn't matter who you are in that place or in that life... what's important is you, the present..." Tears started pouring from her eyes as she speak, "... You're Grey Crossford, our son. I know that because I'm the one who gave birth to you." She started crying like a baby while hugging her son tightly.
'I'm glad that my parents understands.' Grey thought, smiling under her mom's warm arms and said, "Thanks mom."
Edward just watched the wonderful sight in front of him, letting it write a smile on his face as his own tears started building up in the corner of his eyes. 'It was honestly surprising, but somehow, I'm glad that he told us earlier.'
...
Over two weeks have passed since that confession and his parents didn't even change the way they treated him. It was such a relief for Grey, since several days have also passed since he started learning how to use magic. Having his mother teach him wind magic, and his dad for fire magic and melee combat is indeed convenient.
However, he finds it harder to learn magic in this world due to the huge difference of its usage. 'In my previous life, magic is used to create mana constructed weapon like arrows and swords or use pure mana to kill our target. But this place has an interesting usage for mana, the elemental magic.'
But even so, Grey still a fast learner. In just a few days, he managed to conjure wind magic to the extent that surpasses even his mother's.
"Woah, it's unbelievable. He can manage to use wind magic like that." Edward stared at his son that hovers into the air with a face full of amazement.
Emily was on the other side of their backyard, silently clapping her hands as she stood there watching her son float using wind magic. 'Even at his age, I could barely blew a torch using my wind magic.' She smiled from her thoughts and whispered, "Truly a special kid."
"Ohh, right dad." Grey uttered as he landed on his feet. "I have something to show you, since I managed to cast a simple fire spell yesterday." He proudly stated with eager smile.
"Eh..." The father has let out a surprised sound and said, "... Then show me!" with an excited smirk.
Grey grinned and inhaled deeply, facing the forest near the backyard. He extended both of his arms and raised it at shoulder level. In this position, he started visualizing with eyes opened.
'First, I'll use fire magic in my left hand.'
Instantly after the image popped in his mind, a small yellowish flame ignited on his palm between his slightly bent fingers.
'Hmmm, is that it?' Edward has a disappointed look on his face before a strong wind suddenly blown his doubts.
Grey casted another spell on his right hand, a wind magic this time. He could feel it twirling in his palm as he firmly stood on his feet. He let out a sigh before joining both of his hands, letting the two elements mix between his palms.
'What the... no chant?' Edward was puzzled by the scene and also excited to see what's going to happen.
In just a second, the flame expanded into a rotating fire cylinder. Grey looked at his father and said, "I call this spell... the 'Hellfire tempest'!" before launching the rotating flames parallel to the ground, letting it extend twenty meters into the backyard forest.
"Ahhhck!"
Edward quickly ducked on the ground as the shockwave almost blown him away and luckily, his wife is already inside the house at that time.
The smell of charcoal filled the air as Grey stood amazed by his own spell. The inward rotating motion of the flames swallowed anything straight in it's path, penetrating through the large forest, leaving traces of ashes into the burned down forest. Only the roots we're spared, even the thick tree trunk were turned into chunk of charcoal.
"Ahagh... Ahagh!" Edward started coughing as he stood back on his feet only to see the burned down forest in front of him. "Ahhhhh!... What the hell?!" He couldn't hide the shock.
"That was my first official fire spell." Grey smiled proudly. "What do you think?"
"Well I think that's pretty fine for a first fire spell. Also, it's destructive power is probably enough to take down an entire town considering that it doesn't need a chant." Edward awkwardly laughed while rubbing his head.
'Honestly, the thought of mixing wind elements to increase the penetration force of a fire spell never really crossed my mind. Well, I'm a berserker so nothing should be compared.' He stared at the space as he drowned in his thoughts. 'But for real, even if I conjure a radiant barrier using my blue flames, I could barely stop that attack.'
Edward tapped Grey's shoulder and said, "Good job, mastering two common class element."
"Thanks!" He gave him a close-eyed smile.
Suddenly, the atmosphere changed and for an instant, the father and son figured out what is the source of this strange pressure. They turned their head towards the backdoor of their house.
They saw Emily angrily gritting her teeth in anger as she stared at the burned forest. "You two... what have you done!" She screamed at them.
Sweat started building up on Grey's forehead as he lowered his head and apologize.
"I'm really sorry mom!" He pleaded.
"I'm sorry dear!" Edward also did the same.
"You two should stand in the corner and reflect for what you did." Emily angrily yelled at them, pointing at the corner of their house....
And so... Grey's magical practices began. From fire to wind and many other attributes, he started studying about them.
Days and nights soon turned to weeks until Grey mastered all the four common elements while keeping it a secret to his parents.
He also started digging through the small library on their basement and found an interesting spell book titled "The theory of storms and thunders". The interesting title put a grin on his face before he opened it to see what's inside, hoping that this will be an interesting catch.
