028 A talented wizard

Grey stood outside his grandpa's house, confusedly staring at the sun rising from the horizon. 'It's morning?' He asked himself before gently holding his aching head. "I think I overslept for about 12 hours."

"Fifteen hours to be exact."

Suddenly, a deep voice sounded behind him, startling the boy and slightly jolting his body. When Grey turned his head, he saw Jurgen smiling at him in a mischievous way that made him confused. "What?" he asked.

Without any reply, and a warning, the mischievous smile from the old man's face disappeared as he quickly lifted his feet and threw a kick towards the boy's head. Although, Grey managed to parry the kick with his crossed arm, Jurgen quickly followed another kick to his lower body, causing Grey to jump off of his feet and away from his grandpa.

"What's wrong with you?" Grey stated, completely shocked from Jurgen's actions while removing the dust from his forearms that he used to block the first kick. "Attacking me all of sudden?"

"Have you forgotten?" Jurgen asked him with a close-eyed pissed off smile, causing more confusion to the boy's mind. "Your training starts today. How kind of you to overslept and complain about me attacking you." He said, before rushing towards Grey thrusting his palm towards his chest.

Grey quickly reacted and blocked the palm attack. He then slipped to his right and threw a left handed jab that Jurgen quickly evaded by stepping back. "I thought I still have some days to prepare?"

"Enemies don't wait for your training to finish child." Jurgen bluntly said before pointing hos finger at Grey. "Let me show you... how real wizard use magic." Soon after saying that, Jurgen chanted, "Hit the target, Mana art 05: Piercing beam!"

Upon chanting, a beam of mana was fired from Jurgen's index finger. The beam was as thick as his finger and was constructed with highly condensed mana that traveled almost at the speed of light. It was fired towards Grey at an accurate timing, but the boy surprisingly managed to dodge it by moving his body put of the way. This actions caused the old man to click his tongue with an annoyed face.

With the increasing pressure, Grey was left no choice but to counterattack. He swiftly dashed forward and jumped to throw a right punch, aimed at his grandpa's face. Before the punch lands, he quickly mentioned a chant, "Increase the impact, Mana art 8th form: Fist cloak!"

Before the punch lands, his fist was wrapped in a high density mana. Jurgen quickly countered with ice magic. And as the punch landed on the block of ice, a second impact occured that tore a hole through the ice wall, shocking the hell out of Jurgen.

"What the—"

Before Jurgen could even say his full comment, Grey threw another punch with the same density of mana and this time, Jurgen caught his fist before he could even increase its momentum. Even so, a second impact still occured, almost leaving shallow scratches on the old man's palm and into his skin.

The slight sting caused Jurgen's calm Express to slightly change. He then slowly formed a smile and said, "Well, done. I seems that you have some basic knowledge with origin magic and mana arts. I guess teaching you wouldn't be that hard because you're awfully talented." Almost chuckling, he quickly withdraw his hand from holding Grey's fist and shook it violently. "You have 5 minutes to get the things you'll be needing for your training. So hurry up and we're going somewhere." He said, almost sounded like an order.

Grey did nothing but follow. He entered the house once again and grabbed his sword with it's surprisingly new scabbard. Some bread and water and then put them inside a bag before heading again outside. While walking beside Jurgen, Grey couldn't help but ask Jurgen where they were heading.

"I'm sorry gramps, but where are we going?" He asked, looking up at Jurgen with curious gaze.

"We're going to the place that I took Ryner to train." Jurgen replied, followed by an awkward silence that filled the air after Grey failed to give his reaction.

'Then it's a training ground.' Grey assumed as he walked onto a familiar path. 'I just hope that it's durable enough to not get wrecked the moment I get reckless.' He thought, laughing in his mind while still staring unconsciously at the familiar path that they were taking.

After almost 25 minutes of walking, they reached a rocky path that almost familiar for Grey. And as they continued walking, the boy started suspecting something. When he laid his eyes on a plain green grass growing at the side of the rocky path, he immediately remembered yesterday's training with Ryner.

'This place—' Grey was surprised to see more plain grass growing in a giant field and by turning his head on the left, he saw a crack on the ground and some trees that were cut down in half. This only proved his assumption. This place was indeed the place where Ryner has dragged him to. The training ground that he wrecked until his energy was drained from fatigue.

"Uncle Ryner brought me to this place." Grey stated, glancing at the old man's obviously surprised expression.

"He did?" Jurgen asked, doubtfully raising his eyebrows.

"Yes, that's right." Grey politely replied, before taking another glance at the field.

"That damned brat got ahead of me again." Jurgen whispered, annoyingly clenching his fist while gritting his teeth. Just the thought of Ryner laughing at his face annoyed him so much for some reason. And Grey could hear him murmuring while biting his teeth from annoyance.

"What did he taught you?" Jurgen wonderingly asked his grandson.

"A mana art technique that could greatly improve my offensive power." Grey stated, proudly drawing his sword.

"Then show me." Jurgen eagerly looked at him before pointing at the tree in front of Grey with a hint of excitement.

"Yes." Grey replied, drawing his sword. He took a deep breath, staring at his target and positioning himself in a stance he was comfortable in. The target was 15 ft. away from him so he was expected to use a stronger amount of magic to cut it down since it was also large in size. "Here I go." He swung his sword diagonally, there was a short barely delay before the tree was cut in half by a sharp blade of mana.

'Incredible, it's hard to believe that he was only taught yesterday.' The attack was still imperfect, but Jurgen was quite satisfied by the result and was impressed. "Very well, I guess Ryner really got ahead of me this time. However," He took a short pause before continuing, ", the technique he taught you was incomplete."

"Really? I thought it was almost close to perfect." Grey replied, his curious mind urged him to ask a question. "Then how am I supposed to do it then?" he asked.

Jurgen let out a long sigh and took his time to explain. "Magic, especially mana arts are formed through visualization. Incomplete visualization often leads to spell errors. This errors could be prevented by verbally saying how the spell should work like strike, pierce, or explode and many other verbal incantations. It helps stimulate the human mind's imagination in a way that anyone could comprehend and follow, thus, strengthening a spell visualization." He demonstrated it by playing a ball of mana in his hand and then chanting, "pop!", immediately popping it into pieces of shiny silver dust.

"People tend to imagine things and magic is the way to turn it to reality. If someone says 'apple' you'll definitely think of an apple and when a person said, 'it was a rotten apple', you will imagine exactly what it was by instinct as long as you know what those words means. Making a word the most powerful trigger for imagination." Jurgen explained. His face was seriously looking at Grey as he speak. "Listen Grey. The powerful your words the stronger a magic becomes, although it ceased to be an issue when someone already mastered his visualization to the higher level to the point that one doesn't even need to blurt a single word just like how you always do... but atleast say the name of the spell."

Jurgen draws his own sword and lifted it up in the air, holding it parallel to his body. "The technique— the spell that Ryner thought you was stronger when you know its given name." He channeled mana into the tip of his blade, "The name of this technique is... Mana art 06..." , and then swiftly swung it. "... Moon dividing slash!"

An overwhelmingly strong amount of mana split the giant trees in half the moment Jurgen's sword was swung, leaving a slice on the ground caused by the powerful force that carved a long thin line on the grassy field.

"Incredible! He managed to wreck the ground with such a small effort." Grey astonishingly looked at his grandpa with his jaw dropped.

"Try it out." Jurgen blurted in the air, giving the stage for Grey, almost happily smiling. He stepped out of the way and watched him closely with his sharp eyes. "And for better accuracy and power, use both of your hands." he added.

Grey followed all the instructions and got intl the said position with both pf his hand holding the sword. He vigorously grasped the sword and released a large amount of mana along with a swing that was followed by a chant, "Moon dividing slash!".

To his surprise, the empty field in front of him split open as he saw the grass above the ground get cleaned out by a strong magical force. Grey stood surprised for what he did. Blinking a few times with a lot of questions in mind, he only managed to let out a delayed gasp of surprise.

"HUH?"

Even Jurgen was in awe after witnessing it. Such a magically endowed individual with a huge amount of mana source was in front of him. 'What the heck was that?' From his position, looking at the destruction that it left off, Jurgen could see the difference between Grey's slash and his. 'There was a 0.3 second delay in his attack, and for a moment, I thought he was someone else.'

Jurgen noticed everything, his incredible intelligence and learning ability, including his extremely potent magic. 'Is this person really is my grandson?' A question occured into his mind before he snapped back to reality upon hearing a call.

"GRAMPS?!"

Grey shouted, calling his grandpa a few times before Jurgen noticeably jolted in surprise. "A-Ahh, what?" He asked, obviously shocked.

"What do you think?" Grey asked, seemingly puzzled about how Jurgen was acting. He constantly looked at his eyes while tilting his head to observe his weird reaction... and to creep him out.

"Ahem!" Jurgen cleared his throat before he said, "It was pretty fine. Well done.", with blank reaction, pretending not to be impressed. He then continued to talk about some pointers about how to use it before he proceeded to the next one.

"Now, try firing a projectile from your sword." Jurgen ordered, before jumping several meters away from Grey. He was about 30 meters away from him before he stopped and landed on his foot. "This time, fire it towards me."

"What?!" Grey exclaimed, his eye brows are curled and he was confused as hell.

"Do you not know how to use it? I'm sure that Ryner told you to dump that technique and replaced it with 6th form to increase your close combat potential and balance your dual-caster ability but that was such a waste of magic arsenal." Jurgen slightly clicked his tongue and proceeded to persuade Grey. "Now try using it against me."

Although hesitating, Grey immediately did what he asked. He swung his blade and fire a blue-colored sharp arc of mana towards Jurgen. It travelled 3 seconds before it reached the distance of 30 meters and was now about to hit the stubborn old man.

But Jurgen stood unbothered and just the moment when the arc of mana made contact with his body, it was immediately destroyed and evaporated in the atmosphere in an instant. "Still too weak to be called an attack." he whispered to himself, intentionally letting Grey to hear him.

Meanwhile, Grey quickly noticed the blue thin layer of mana covering Jurgen's skin. "Is that..." And he wasn't surprised because of how it blocked his attack but how it reassembles a technique from his past life. "... Vlitz?"

"Huh?" Jurgen was thrown into confusion after hearing him said that. He quickly shook his head with a puzzled expression and said, "This technique is the Mana art 15th form: Blessed protection—one of the strongest defensive magical spells a close combatant could use."

"I see," Grey was still doubtful, 'It surely looks like Vlitz.' But he ended up acception it anyways. "Well, if that's what you said, than so be it."

"However, lets leave the defense for later. For now, let's focus on awakening your full potential." Jurgen said before drawing his sword and then thrusting it into the ground, burying its blade. "Freeze and stood high. Ice magic: Frozen pillars of winter!"

Out of thin air, Ice was immediately formed below him, freezing the ground, followed by several pillars of frozen ice emerging from the ground. It reached the height of about 10 meters before it eventually stopped emerging from below.

"This is..." Grey was left speechless to see something like that. He quickly felt the sudden coldness in the atmosphere, followed by the old man's cold gazes. "What am I supposed to do with this?""

Jurgen took some time before he said, "Today, I am only going teach you how mana arts works and how to use it effectively in combat to improve your fighting style and get a huge spell arsenal advantage out of it, given that there are over 100 different varieties of mana arts. I'm not gonna teach you everything though."

"And for now, I want you to keep on destroying this ice pillars from that distance just by using the 'Mana art 06: Crescent moon!'" Jurgen added and stepped out of the way, giving Grey more space to train comfortably.
