The sword-shaped rune metal that was almost hardened in the mold was seemingly absorbing the blue vapor through the magic circle that Reynold had drew, causing the unpolished sword to slightly tremble from the energy being injected to it.
"What is that?" Grey couldn't help but ask the man beside him who seems to know drew earlier." Ryner explained, excitedly not taking his eyes off the interesting sight. "Think of it like extracting the soul of the monster itself and then putting it inside the rune metal for magical usage."
'That's right,' Grey suddenly remembered the book that he read during his childhood, when he stumbled upon a page about comparing human races to monsters. It was stated in the book that one of the things that make humans and monsters different from each other was their astral orb or their mana core. Humans possess a mysterious nonphysical core called soul that instantly vanish when the body stop functioning or get destroyed and therefore couldn't be collected by any means.
The monster cores on the other hand are physical orbs that contains the monster's essence and identity. Because of its physical structure and properties, it doesn't disappear even if the monster owning it get destroyed and therefore could be collected physically.
'I came here bringing a monster core without even having the idea about this method.' Grey smirked with an interested expression, watching the scene unfolds in front of him. Somewhere in the corner of his mind, he was wondering how will the resulting weapon would look like and it seems like it wouldn't take that long before he could see it himself.
Soon after extracting almost everything, the unsharpened sword started shaking violently, causing it to be detached from the mold. It seems like the mana inside the sword is reacting with each other and began releasing a massive amount of pressure.
"Woah! Woah! What's going to happen now?" Grey slightly panicked for a moment before Ryner grabbed his shoulder.
"It's almost done, don't worry." Ryner said, not having any hints of worry on his face.
Reynold quickly grabbed the sword and tried stopping its ongoing rage. Sooner than expected, the shaking stopped... and before anything else, Reynold wiped the sweat dripping on his face as the final essence from the core has been finally extracted and the Rain toad's core became colorless as it was emptied. It's finally done... halfway atleast.
Reynold sharply let out a sigh pf relief and gave the young boy a warm smile. "This is the first time I'm forging a sword with a Rain toad's essence. I'm honestly excited." He said, almost chuckling while scratching his head with his free hand.
The next he's about to do was definitely to finish the sword and gave it a final make over. So Reynold pulled everything out of his way and stood in front of the anvil. "It's time to perfectly shape every angle of this sword." He said, placing the sword on its flat surface before grabbing a large iron hammer. He raised it and swung it vigorously.
"SPLANK!—BAM!"
The moment the hammer made contact with the metal, a semi explosion of mana occured, pushing the hammer away and Reynold almost fall off balance from the shockwave. "Woah!" he shrieked, quickly regaining his posture. "I guess this thing is harder to shape." He said, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. "Phew!"
Hearing this, Ryner did nothing but roll his eyes to Grey's direction. "Looks like he's having a hard time forging your sword." He whispered, making sure Reynold doesn't hear him.
"Well I can see that." Grey whispered back, still got his eyes glued to the man forging his blade. "It seems like the essence of the core is trying to resist." he said loudly and intentionally.
After receiving the comment, Reynold felt motivated to show off. Regaining his composure, he quickly lifted the hammer on his right hand and positioned the rune blade on the flatted center of the anvil. And then swinging it intensely.
"SPLANK!"
The impact caused a loud sound and was quickly followed by a spark but this time, no more mana exploded from it. The mana in the surroundings are also fine and the blade is seemingly agreeing to be forge by glowing temptingly.

"SPLANK!... SPLANK!... SPLANK..."
Reynold repeatedly hammered the metal for about two hours and half before it started to be shaped into a fine short and lightweight thin blade. He was focusing the impact on its edge to flatten and sharpen it more while occasionally putting it back in the furnace to soften the metal for easier forging.
Soon after, Reynold was finally finished shaping the blade and was ready for some final make over. Then, he quickly dipped the hot blade into a barrel of water.
"Shhhhhh!"
The sound of water boiling and evaporating from the extreme heat is music to Grey's ears. At last, the sword is almost finished. His heart is beating with excitement as he watched his uncle grabs the sword handle and guard. And after fixing everything and honing the blade, the sword is finally done.
"Phew!" Reynold sighed. His body was covered in sticky sweat and his hands are dark like coal. "It's finally done." He said, raising the sword and presenting it to his white-haired nephew. In his hand, a two feet thin lightweight sword, glowing with a strange blue aura surrounding it. He was holding the sharp sword with caution as he handed it to Grey. "Try it." he said excitedly.
The moment Grey came in contact with the sword, the blue aura surrounding it glowed even more menacingly, causing the young man to cautiously grip the sword after feeling it sucking his mana constantly. "What's this?" He asked himself while trying to calm the sword that's seemingly holding a grudge towards him. "Calm down, I don't bite." He tried talking it out while still struggling to control the raging sword.
"It seems like It's quite resentful for some reasons." Ryner was looking at Reynold as he spoke before wonderingly looking at Grey who's trying to tame his new weapon.
On the other hand, Reynold shrugged his shoulders with an awkward smile and said, "Honestly, I really don't know." He was confused as Ryner since this is the first time he forged a sword with a rain toad essence and he doesn't know what the heck is happening. "Was it because of magic attribute incompatibility?— no, that's impossible since Grey can use water magic."
"If not, then what?" Ryner slightly moved away from Grey, all prepared to defend himself just in case something bad happens. Looking at the sword glowing brighter every second, everytime it sucked out mana from Grey, Ryner couldn't help but be wary. "It looks like it's filled with massive amount of mana. It you don't release that, it might be more destructive later." Ryner commented.
Hearing this, Grey suddenly felt the urge to do what Ryner said. So, he kicked the door, flipping it open and then running outside. Looking around for the nearest open area, he found a small field that is going to be used for tree planting and still has no plants in it just steps away from their backyard. "This should be fine."
Facing the field, he tightly grasped the sword handle and extended it backward, blade facing the front. He carefully calmed his mana while slightly tensing his muscle and breathed in as much as he could. With the sword still sucking his magic from him, he forcefully swung the sword diagonally, releasing a sharp arc-shaped wave of mana from its thin edge.
"SWISH!... BOOOOM!"
The force went straight to the ground. Everything that the arc-shaped mana came in contact with got divided in half and exploded loudly soon after. Even the ground wasn't spared, leaving a large crack that split open after the slash that eventually became a crater after the following mana explosions, causing Ryner and Reynold who obviously followed him, to stare in awe.
"W-What the fuck was that?!" Ryner screamed, covering his ears from the aftereffects of the deafening explosion. Staring at the small field, he saw nothing but dust blown away to his face by the explosion before he started coughing uncontrollably. Fanning the dust with his hands, he was finally able to see Grey standing menacingly in the field, holding the sword that's seemingly obeyed its rightful owner.
"I couldn't believe how much mana that kid could release. The terrain almost got distorted from that swing." Ryner commented with a terrified look on his face.
Clearly hearing what he said, Reynold quickly replied, "Even I was surprised."
Meanwhile, Grey was panting heavily as his trembling hands barley grasps the sword. He somehow managed to stop it from going berserk by forcibly releasing his mana in that swing and for some reasons, he could felt the sword overjoyed and contented by his actions. "I heard that swords should have weird names, so I'm going to name you 'Greed' since you're greedy of mana." he sneered. The sword just glowed brightly in response, as if agreeing with Grey.
Reynold only smiled from the sight an smiled contentedly. He thought, 'This kid... is really something else'.
"Ohhh, you guys are here after all." A voice behind them interrupted their thoughts, causing them to turn their heads instinctively. Looking at the old man stroking his beard while looking at the destruction Grey had caused to his backyard.
"Great master Jurgen?!" Ryner looked surprised after laying his eyes on him.
"I was thinking what kind of commotion is up, but to think that you guys would destroy my backyard." The old man buried his face on his palm while slightly shaking his head. "But you guys are lucky, I'm not here to scold you."
Hearing this caused Ryner and Reynold to look at each other and then averted their gaze back to the old man Jurgen.
"I'm just here to borrow my grandson." Jurgen said, causing everyone to be puzzled.
Confused as he is, Grey pointed at himself and said, "me?", raising one eyebrow.
"yes you," Jurgen replied, pointing at the boy. "come with me."
This didn't brought any clearance to his mind. But he obeyed and walked towards the old man with an obviously confused expression while carelessly carrying a scabbardless sword.
