Before going back home, i stop by a store specialized in selling rare ores, and buy only a hundred kilograms of two special metals, that when combined form the best material for swords that i know of, Hartil metal.
There are few, non enhanced blades that are better at cutting than Hartil blades. And an enhanced Hartil blade can cut through almost anything.
After seven days of continuous smithing, I finally finish making the last elo of the last of four chains, each five hundred meters long, one end has an anchor that shall go on the ground, and the other end has a two bladed hook.
The arrays that I designed for the chains are separated into three parts.
The hook has a clever use of the force field rune that I discovered in one of the books in the library. If you just inject ki into the rune without giving it any intent of a shape, it will follow the surroundings to take its shape, so when the array get activated inside the body of the worm, it should that the shape of its veins and little gaps inside the body for a ten meters diameter, turning it impossible to pull it off.
The body of the chain has a simple array to control movement, and one to increase its durability inscribed into each link of the chain.
And at the bottom of the chain, on the anchor, I placed a stabilizing Array. Widely used in the construction of huge structures, in order to make it earthquake resistant, it forms a bond with the place it is inscribed and the earth surrounding it, making it extremely hard to move it.
Working on the Hartil Alloy was one of my hardest challenges. It's been years since I had so much trouble forging a set of knives.
I used the Hartil to make the very tip of the eight blades of the hooks, and forged fifty small blades, which shall be linked in a rotating body, that, with the rotating array, formed an extremely sharp drill.
I don't believe that the skin of the Bottomless Worm can sustain even a minute of attack from this drilling formation.
With everything finished, I made my way to the regulations hall, to ask for permission to go out of the sect for a few days.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
At the bottom of the mountain that marks the end of the sect grounds. I take the Moon Chaser Ray’s dantian out, and activate it. Letting the Ray grow around me to fifty meters long.
As it is created by my ki, i don't even need to stay on top of it, i can get inside the formation, and make it fly unhinged by a weirdly shaped body on its back.
Flying in the deserts direction for a while, I notice that as I fly away from the hole in the clouds, the land starts to grow darker and darker, to a point that, after a hundred kilometers, I can't see anything.
That's something that completely went over my head, in the upper layer of clouds, even though the sky is opaque, it still lets light through. But here it is completely dark.
The hole above the sect made me forget that I am now on the second layer, and things are different.
Going through all that I know about light, I remember that any living body emits light, known as infrared radiation, be it humans or plants.
Giving it a shot, I move a little of ki inside my eyes, making it take the shape of the light manipulation rune, and start twerking it around, to find the infrared spectrum.
It's easy to know if i am going in the right direction with the twerks on the rune, for every right step, the world gains color.
The world, to my eyes, goes from pitch dark to a realm of different shades of red. The hotter the body, the stronger is the shade of red I see.
This way of seeing in the dark is good, but I can only see up to one kilometer. Anything after this is way too dim to my eyes.
Continuing my travels for three days, I finally found the beginning of what I think must be the desert.
On these three days that I spent flying, I flew above giant stretches of forest and rivers, with its dim but ever present glow of red.
But now, all I can see is darkness. There's a sudden end to trees, animals and water.
Stopping and flying in circles, I create a simple light array below me, to shine a light on the ground.
As I do, I can immediately confirm that I am in the right place. The ground has nothing but sand and small rocks.
Flying a little deeper into the desert, I form a dragon construct, and make it fall continuously on the ground, flying at a moderate speed above it, searching the sand for any light.
Given how big the Bottomless Worm's body is, its light should be easy to spot at a distance. Even more now that I am some kilometers deep into the desert, and can see any light near me.
Even five hours after starting, and moving at least ten kilometers deep into the desert there's no sign of anything alive.
Getting a little tired, I stop in the air for a bit, and let the five meters long dragon construct lay on the ground.
As I am thinking about a better way to keep on searching. I fail to notice a movement on the ground.
The sand near the dragon construct starts to tremble a bit, and suddenly a huge hole appears on the ground. Sucking in the dragon, as the hole moves ten meters above ground.
Taken aback by the sudden jump scare, I take a moment to look at the incredible sight of a giant mouth, filled with thousands of sharp teeth.
As the worm angles down to get back into the ground, I immediately take action.
