Chapter 19 - Bottomless Worm

Chapter 19 - Bottomless Worm

After weeks of training, I am finally familiar enough to be able to do a whole cultivation section without stopping. Constantly switching from infusing all the ki from my dantian into my bones, to accumulating the ki from the atmosphere.

The process of cultivating this technique is extremely slow, for even ten hours of continuous cultivation only get me one step into this marathon. The bones from my body eat ki like a black hole eating dust.

Only after one whole month of almost nonstop cultivation, do I finally feel a difference in the power of my bones.

A small, almost insignificant difference, but it's there nonetheless.

Going to the library has become the single other thing that I do, other than cultivate.

The library of this sect is a circular tower, with a circular staircase in the middle, and filled with shelves full of books all around.

And tonight, while I was reading a biography of a long dead cultivator, I read a chapter where he speaks of a type of giant worm known as Bottomless Worm. And how their dantian seems to be of a pure earth ki type.

Immediately remembering a monster's map that I saw in another book. I recall that this Bottomless Worm lives not too far from the sect. Only five hundred kilometers north, in a medium sized desert.

“Excuse me big brother, can you help me find a bestiary?” Going back to the entrance of the library, I asked the disciple behind the desk.

Aa he raises his hand, a series of books comes flying from deep inside the library, then hands me the collection.

“Here.” He says without even looking up from the book he is reading.

Vowing to memorize the whole collection later, I focus on finding the Bottomless Worm’s information first.

BOTTOMLESS WORM

Known for his ferociousness and might, the Bottomless Worm is a king of the desert.

The average size for their species is two hundred meters long and fifteen meters in diameter.

They move underneath the sands as fast as fish in the sea. Their skin is harder than some metals, making it so that only strong cultivators have a chance to kill them before being eaten alive.

WEAKNESS

Their only way of seeing the world around them is through vibrations. So as long as you are quiet and don't touch the ground, they can't see you.

STRENGTH

Thanks to the innate power of their bodies, they easily reach the late ki liquefied stage. Most of the elders of their race are above the core formation.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

As a Bottomless Worm steps into core formation, it grows into a five hundred meters long worm.

The first notes of their species dates back to a thousand years ago as…

As millions of ideas buble into existence and collide with each other inside my head. I make my way to the Array Hall, take a table, a large piece of paper and start to note the ideas down, to better formulate a plan.

First up, I'll need a way to move undetected by the worms, so either flying or barely touching the ground.

The only way I know to make an array fly is casting it while setting the anchor on the ground, be it on me or on a formation plate. So i need a new way to float, if i go from that idea.

Remembering the tenth rune the elder gave me on the test to enter the sect, I pull my notes on it and read it again.

It's an Essence Rune. The core idea of this rune is to capture the essence of what it is used in, to help a formation have this meaning.

Inscribing this rune on the paper, I draw a circle with complementary runes, and after some twerks and small changes, it starts working.

For now it does nothing. But I can feel the clear activation of its abilities.

With a crazy idea in my mind, I take out a dantian from one of the Moon Chaser Rays, use my mana to absorb some of the rune ink I have, and with extreme care, start inscribing on the surface of the dantian.

Without my knowledge, the elder that is always seated by the stairs reading suddenly looks in my direction with a curious look in his eyes.

Finishing the meticulous job of inscribing the miniscule array on the thumb sized dantian, I activate it and immediately an illusory image of the Moon Chaser Ray appears, floating around the dantian.

“HAHAHA I did it!” I half shout, half whisper.

Deactivating the array, I get back to the paper, and draw some other arrays.

A Force Field Array, linked directly to the Essence Array, that shall give its body the proper power it will need.

A Mana Gathering Array and a Mana Storing Array. To make it self sustainable.

And remembering the way these rays used to attack me, I gave the array a Hardening and Sharpness Array, making the already deadly sword-like tail it has even more powerful.

The structure of the whole formation ended up in a circle with four triangles on the sides, with the Essence Array in the middle, and the four supplementary Arrays in each triangle.

Immediately taking the ink and meticulously inscribing the arrays in the dantian, I take my time to make sure it's all perfect.

After finishing, I make the core float above my hand, and activate the array, controlling its size to stay one meter wide, so it won't knock down any shelf.

As ki is expelled from the dantian, the form of a Moon Chaser Ray takes shape in front of me. Now with a tangible body.

“Hi little buddy, welcome to this world.” I say with a smile as I touch the ray, making sure everything is working out as intended.

“It's been a few hundred years since I last saw someone with this much potential in formations.” Says a familiar voice from my side.

“Oh! Elder, sorry I didn't know you were

there.” I say as after recovering from the surprise.

“Do you understand what you just did?” Ask the elder with a serious look on his face.

“I know for a fact that you've not yet stepped on the fourth floor of this library, so you shouldn't know of this technique of formations. Even though it already exists, you still recreated it worth your own knowledge and this is commendable, congratulations.” He finishes.

“Oh, someone already invented this? What did they call it?” I ask, surprised.

“Reanimation Formation. And it is better than yours for the creator knows way more intermediary runes than you do, but what you've accomplished is still pretty good.” He explains.

“Yeah, I need more intermediary runes. How can I get access to them, elder?” I ask with expectations in my eyes.

“Runes are an important and valuable knowledge that most sects protect at all costs, so you need to become an inner disciple and earn some merits points before being allowed on the third floor and above.” The elder says with a shadow of a smile on his face.

The requirements to become an inner disciple of the Divine Sky Sect is to achieve core formation stage in cultivation, and to convince an elder to take you as his disciple.

The master disciple bond prevents the knowledge of the sect to be leaked to other sects.

The idea of needing to become stronger just reminds me of why I started creating this Array. Now I have a way to travel without being detected by the worms, all I need now is a way to attack.

Already having an idea. I make my way down the mountain, inside the store I've sold my previous Moon Chaser Rays dantians.

“Hey mate. How have you been?” I ask as I enter the store.

“Oh Ragurr, nice to see you, friend. Where have you been?” He says as a smile forms on his face.

“Just training. Now, I need ten tons of any good metal you can get. Do you have any? Not the expensive type, please.” I ask.

I have nine thousand tons of durba ore in stock, but I can get the remaining in no time. It shall cost you one hundred sect points.” He says. “But what are you using so much metal for, if you don't mind me asking.”

“Nothing, I just need a giant chain.” I answer with a huge smile.
