Chapter 20

One good nap later and I'm training Woody to evolve, which is really easy. You just need another Pokemon to use a non-damaging move or an attack he isn't familiar with and all he has to do is use the other move twice in a row, maybe even once but just holding it for a bit.

I don't even need a quarter of a field for him to practice.

"Now, like I explained before about Mimic, the move description from Indigo says "A move for learning one of the opponent's moves, for use during that battle only." while the move description in Alola says "The user copies the target's last move. The move can be used during battle until the Pokémon is switched out." okay."

'Sly bon' and some quick nodding.

"So basically you're gonna aim for Copycat but instead of using the move once you're gonna be able to use it as much as you want while Mimic is active and, unlike Copycat, you have to keep the energy for Mimic up while you use the move. Basically it's to keep focusing on using one move and only one move."

'Bon bonsly bon' Woody replied. He already knew all this but having a reminder after every ten times seems to help so I just repeat it when giving him a snack to keep his energy up.

I then have a take step back again so that Dee-Dee can use Psychic on Woody once more as a refresh before letting him down gently.

Purple energy begins surrounding his body before he is floating up again and then lightly put on the ground he was standing on. Woody on his part, made sure to take a moment to first remember the feeling of the psychic move on him before normal type energy began surrounding his body once more. Then it all transferred over to his little orbs on his head which began shifting into a white color.

White then slowly turns to gold. A Rubik's cube is picked up by psychic energy before some of the squares begin shifting around so that one side is filled with the yellow tiles, taking a good twenty seconds to do so as he doesn't want to break the toy.

It promptly drops. Because Woody isn't concentrating anymore.

He's too busy evolving.

His legs become a bit more spaced as his body elongates upwards before branching off into two ways in the middle. Both arm-like extensions have three fingers each before orbs appear on each finger, big and round.

The light eventually fades as Woody looks down at me, and isn't that crazy, before looking down on his own body. His yellow spots on the area where his head used to be before shifting his gaze over to his hands.

He shakes them and the sound that comes out is similar to that of maracas, I know the instrument because my next door neighbor Mr. Hitoshi has a bunch of different instruments he likes to buy when he goes traveling on holidays.

Pretty soon the entire team came over to congratulate him. Elian's busy with something his dad texted him about so he couldn't be here to watch.

"Well this seems like a good point to tell everyone that Woody now knows Hammer Arm, which is a really strong fighting type move and super effective against steel and rock types." The gathered Pokemon all look at me as I focus on the pokedex aimed on my newly evolved Sudowoodo. Then Lupa remembers that he's a rock type and starts jumping in giddy. I think its starting to set into the evolved rock type that the three who want to have the most battles are all now weak to him in some way as he starts trying to move behind me.

"Sorry Woody but you gotta break into your evolution first, so you'll have to battle them anyway." The look of betrayal on his face was enough to have me giggling and pretty soon everybody else joined in; Woody harrumphed but he was smiling so we all knew he didn't really mean it.

But I do point out that he should do some stretches and exercises while in the room so that he can feel how his hands and body move. He dutifully does so after I tell him about some basic arm stretches and the toe touch one.

With that out of the way, it was now time to start making dinner. Something I'm more than comfortable with but the recipe for Dee-Dee's new dietary plan isn't something I've ever made before so it was cool checking the cooking time for it or which veggies to chop; her drink meanwhile needs some Wiki and Leppa berries mixed into a juice. As an Indeedee she has a fairly human body so a lot of her food is gonna have to be good for calorie intake like porridge or soup but some high quality moomoo milk will definitely help for bone growth and other stuff.

Dinner was quickly served and everyone got to enjoy their food; Dee-Dee was pleasantly surprised when she tasted banana and Oran berry in her porridge but the professor told me it was one of her favorites so I quickly got some since for the most part I've just been buying Pecha, Lum, Aspear, and Sitrus berries.

Earlier

A pokeball appeared in the transfer slot of a PC within the Pokemon Center. Picking it up and pressing the button on it revealed a thin and humanoid Pokemon.

"Hey Indeedee, how's it going?" My question is answered with a passive look, as if she wants me to do something.

Easily accepting the silence I move on "Well, how about we go over to the team and see how they're doing?"

She takes a second to think it over before nodding and giving a quiet 'Dee'

We move along at a leisurely pace, since we aren't leaving the building, and the time is spent asking how her visit in Pallet has been. Since mom has to teach she wasn't able to give the psychic type that much attention during most of the day so it was on Leaf to give her and Pearl an introductory walk around my hometown. So that means that she spent a lot of time with showing the Clamperl and Indeedee all the sights while mom would show the best places for dinner and lunch when she was able to.

Indeedee looks at me and only then do I realize that I was giggling out loud.

"-heh, sorry I just realized that you're my Pokemon but you've spent more time with my mom. hehe." She looks at me strangely but noticeably untenses cuz I'm still giggling about that.

By the time I stop we've reached the door to my room and a simple keycard swipe later shows... half my team playing with the new UNO cards while the other half is watching tv.

Everybody noticed the door opening so they saw the normal type next to me who immediately speed walked over to the group playing with the cards since Chardon was playing and had the egg close to himself. She was stopped by the fire type who said something that caused the entire team to laugh and- is Indeedee blushing?- and the now slightly pink faced Pokemon just sat down next to the egg and motioned for her to get dealed in.

I went to watch tv for a bit before forcing the entire team to take a nap since it's still the day where we came to the port city Vermillion. There was a lot of fuss but the fact that no one really physically objected, and the promise of tasty treats when they woke up, had let me know that they were really tired. Indeedee declined to join them so I decided to take a walk with her after tucking the rest of the team to bed, which was barely big enough for all of them on it.

"Hey Indeedee?" I ask as I pull the curtains over the windows.

'Dee?'

"Mind if I call you Dee-Dee instead? I just like nicknaming but if you don't want one then that's fine as well, its like Ralts and Beedrill."

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

She takes a moment to understand the question or something before slowly nodding. Her only hand smoothing over the fur on her other arm.

Trying to loosen up the conversation a bit I change to a new topic "Well Dee-Dee, have you read any shoujo manga before?"

She shakes her head and, before she can blink, I've got out a manga about a villainess who can read peoples minds but gets flustered at the honest thoughts of a prince. It's honestly really cute and my new hyperfixation.

Quickly handing it to her, I wait with a smile for her to read the thing. It's kinda half the team's (including myself's) favorite manga right now. Beedrill thinks it's boring and Lupa doesn't understand the intricacies of love while Pearl thought it would be fun to spray the book with water, but she did later genuinely try to read it before motioning that she can't read. So I kinda started teaching her, Beedrill, Lupa, Tabs, and Woody on how to read since everybody else knew. Maybe then they might appreciate my reading options.

With that out of the way everyone quickly took a nap while Dee-Dee read it and occasionally looking away with a wiggly smile. Then the two of us went out for a walk, since her plan involves some light exercise this could practically be the exercise of the day.

We walk around the port town, visiting the pier and the different people and Pokemon working in tandem before heading over to a park and trying out one of those Ducklett boats.

Once we got on it was just some slow cycling while we looked around.

"Hey Dee-Dee?"

'Dee?'

"Well I was wondering about what you wanted to do once the egg hatches," the grip she has on said egg noticeably tightens "well its because I was wondering if you wanted to be a team healer or if you wanted to do contests or something entirely different. I also kinda noticed on the calls that you'd clench up when I told Leaf and Pearl on what to practice for battling." She tenses, notices that she tensed, and then physically untensed. But she was still clearly uncomfortable since she had subconsciously stopped cycling.

"Look, I'm not saying that you should immediately try something out; all I'm asking is for you to see anything you might like to do whenever you're comfortable and have free time."

We spent a bit of time with me mainly cycling before a second set of feet began whirling their pedals. A look to the left had me observing the psychic type no longer frowning as her face was marred in thought.

After the ride we decide to head back since it's been more than an hour since we left the others to nap.

"Oh right, I kinda forgot but would it be okay if I scanned you with my pokedex? I've done it with everyone else so far." She took a moment before slightly nodding.

Wordlessly I took out the pokedex and

Name Indeedee Type Normal and Psychic Nature Sassy Ability Synchronize Hp 70 Attack 55 Sp. Attack 95 Defense 65 Sp. Defense 105 Speed 85 Total stats 475 Moves Double Slap, Play Nice, Fake Out, Feint Attack, Take Down, Drain Punch, Baton Pass, Pay Day, Psychic

"Hey Dee-Dee?" She doesn't give any indications about not liking the nickname as she tilted her head towards me. "Quick question, do you like battling close range?" She shook her head

"Okay, um, then do you only have moves from back when you hatched?" another shake

"Final one, was your trainer kinda dumb?" She looked shocked at the words that came out of my mouth.

"I mean, just a quick look at other Indeedee's battling on the Internet lets me know that your species is meant for longe range stuff like Psybeam or healing moves like Wish and Heal Pulse but whoever your previous trainer was not only didn't use you correctly in battle; he also made you learn moves that weren't even a good fit for you. I mean, Drain Punch and Feint Attack on a psychic type is wild when you clearly need stuff like fairy moves since they synergise better with you than a type that practically weakens you after a single move. Sure a dark type move is better against ghost types but you don't even need any of those since you're a normal type so any ghost attack is just gonna be useless against you. Like maybe I could be wrong about his training methods but whoever this guy who was your trainer is clearly didn't look at any online info or even just a regular book about what you cou-"

Later I would apologize for my rant about her last trainers' dumb decisions.

For now though we were walking to the Center with me bashing on whoever her previous trainer was while she was smiling and listening intently.

Now

----------------------------------------

It's only been a day into me saying that we would focus on evolving Woody and he's already done it which is awesome, but since I need to rotation out some of the team I've been thinking Beedrill and Ralts for now.

Though I kinda need to make sure that they're practicing together, like how Ralts could learn Psychic from Dee-Dee and I think that Beedrill could practice poison moves with Dill. But it's been a while since I had Leaf and Pearl on the team and it would be amazing for Pearl to help out Tabitha with Iron Defense. I guess if Woody hadn't evolved then I would've sent him back since Tabs has nearly got Rollout down but he'll need time to get used to his body and could learn punching moves other than Hammer Arm; I'm already thinking of using the Thunder Punch tm on him. Lupa should be okay with going back plus he'd be able to practice Fire Fang with dark type energy for Crunch or Bite so it wouldn't be hard. Tabs is out of the question since I've only had her for around a couple weeks at most.

But then, who should I bring back?

Hmmm "Hey Chardon?" The fire type looks away from his bowl and gives a nod showing he's listening "Well I'm wondering about who I should rotation in and out."

The others perk up but otherwise don't really pay attention to the conversation.

"Well, I'm thinking of sending Lupa back to the ranch but I'm not sure if I want to bring Leaf or Pearl back into the roster." The rock type kind of deflates a little so I quickly add "But since I'm only gonna bring one back then Lupa will either practice against a water or a grass type while there." and like a switch the little rock type is happy once more; you can tell since he's wagging his tail a bit.

Chuckling at the cute display, I carry on "So I'm wondering about who should be in the team right now. Pearl who'll face off against Surge, or Leaf who hasn't been in the team for a long while now. We can always skip Surge for later anyways but that would mean your' and the rock type duos gym battle will be a little less tough. Plus instead of five, it'll be four at most in the Cerulean gym if we do it like that so it'll either be Ralts or Beedrill on the team. Not both."

Nodding along to the information, Chardon looked around to the rest of the team before pointing to the glass of water and then himself and some berries.

I just chuckled at that. "Chardon, you're my starter which means that most of the time you will be on my team because you're technically the second in command of the team if I ever wasn't able to help you guys battle or even just do regular stuff." But he is right. I don't really need him on the team right now since most of his training is singular with him trying to learn Flamethrower but having trouble with his mental block since I've seen him puff out fire from his mouth whenever he gets frustrated.

Thinking about it a little, I nod at the logic, Lupa and Chardon could practice dark type moves together while the fire type learns to deflect attacks with Metal Claw from Rock Throw's used by my canine Pokemon and Lupa would have to face off against a Charmeleon. Its solid.

"Okay, you and Lupa will go to the ranch while the others are here. And since I probably won't use you against Surge it might be good to go forward with perfecting Thunder Punch while you're there. The main focus, however, should be on trying to perfect Beat Up to do that other version." Searching up the move showed me that the dark type attack could create illusionary clones of the Pokemon in the party that weren't fainted and each would have the natural strength of each Pokemon. That version makes it useless when more than half the team are special attackers or really weak offensively but since my team has a lot of physical attackers, it's a decent dark type move for psychic types like Sabrina's gym since they won't be able to stop most of them without getting hit at least once.

Oh right.

"Speaking of Flamethrower."

Chardon looked up and flinched from a rapidly approaching berry. His mouth opened in defense and a spew of flames came out to block the berry, continuously being pumped out for a few seconds before the line gets cut off from the shocked fire types mouth.

Everyone looked at the Charmeleon and then at the charred berry on the floor.

"There, you now know Flamethrower. Make sure you can do that consistently okay?"

His wide eyes look at me before narrowing in determination and I think a little bit of respect for helping him through his mental block. He nods and then eats his dry food with gusto.

With that out of the way we finish up dinner, where I took pics of Woody realizing he could grab stuff now and also realizing he doesn't really know how to hold things with his maraca orbs, and the very next morning the entire team is swapped around and ready for traveling.
