Tomorrow is now TODAY. YAY.
I blitz off my bed to the bathroom the second my timer turns on knowing that a second too late and my mom will hog the bathroom all to herself for wayyy too long for my big day.
As soon as I use the bathroom I immediately start combing my black hair, not that it needs much combing anyway since I just went to the barber for a buzz cut a couple days ago. It actually looks good with my blue eyes considering I was only cutting it for convenience’s sake, I mean why would anyone go into the wild with long hair. Thats just asking for branches and dirt to get stuck in there.
I then rush to my room to start changing my pajamas into my non-adventuring clothes and head off out of my room to the stairs that lead to our kitchen downstairs. But I’m wondering why she hasn’t come out of her room I mean today is only…
I gave my head a big smack for being an idiot brain, it’s the weekend so of course she’s going to sleep in for at least another half hour maybe more if she had to drink coffee yesterday cuz of the people at school; since she won’t be waking up anytime soon I’ll have to make my own breakfast.
A perk of having the best teacher in the world as your mom means you can experiment whatever you want and she’ll call it a ‘learning experience’ so she can run off to school early and set up all the evil surprise quizzes and see what the school plan for rainy days and other stuff may be since only a few weirdos would wanna go out in the rain, it just so happens that I’m one such weirdo.
Just then, the Eevee duo go to the lounge and wait for breakfast patiently while I make to get their Pokechow into their respective bowls, an adorable bowl with a little Pichu for Leaf and a dull looking bowl for her shiny brother.
…I can’t be trusted to make them actual food instead of store bought stuff since the last time I gave them my experimental cooking Leaf cried because of how bad it was and Shadow probably thought of committing torture attempts that would count as war crimes. It was either that or that he thought the food was the greatest thing in human innovation.
So instead I take my experiments to the local Grimer and Muk which can be found eating trash in the garbage filled land just a twenty minute walk to and fro the house, it isn't actually that stinky since the local poison types do this thing where they control stuff like scent so they can make even garbage smell like flowers. I eat my own bacon and eggs with some bread and get the boxes filled with my beautiful creations to the garbage eating Pokémon. After sprinting to the local trash center I wave hi to the security guard in charge who always waves back and head to my meeting place with the poison types already waiting.
“Dig in fella’s” to which they reply in grunts and happy trills.
They love the food because I made it but they seem to be a little avoiding eating my creation of Slowpoke tail dipped in chocolate coating with Paras mushrooms sautéed in moomoo milk, that means that my skills are getting better. YES. But now here comes the hard part.
“Hey guys, I’ve got an announcement to make.” instantly they hush up. “So you guys know that I’m going to be going on an adventure right?” to which I get a few nods. “Well, today's that day and it means I won’t be back until a very long time alright.”
I don’t look at them when I say that but from the lamenting wails of “Grimer”, “Muk”, and even the odd poison type saying their names… none of them were happy to see me leave.
“But this doesn’t mean goodbye forever, I’ll come back someday and when I do I’ll be the best trainer in Kanto… no I’ll be the best in the world alright” happy trills and noises come out from my declaration. “So I was wondering if any of you wanna join me to be the very best in the world.”
The answer was obvious from the silence, no problem since these guys were bred and kept in trash zones near cities because they don’t want to battle, plus you aren’t allowed to catch any Pokémon from within here unless it’s an emergency or they show signs of wanting to battle. I just say thanks for being my friends and start heading to the lab after spending a couple minutes playing with them. When suddenly officer Jenny is in front of me seemingly waiting for me to exit the dump, almost as if sh-
Mom
“I’ll head home now” I say to which she replies
“Make sure you do.”
After sprinting back home I use the garden hose and secret soap bar in the back to wash my hands before heading inside to gather a couple choice materials. The Eevees notice me holding up incense sticks and walk to the shrine in the back.
I always do this in my daily routine to the point that it’ll be a bit hard to let it go. I start praying for good luck on my father’s gravestone after lightning the incense sticks. Everyday I would do this and Leaf would always be at my side patiently mimicking my actions. It’s always a pleasant surprise when her brother comes to pay his respects.
They both have probably realized this’ll be the last time I’ll be doing this. It’s quite uncommon for people to die due to Pokémon mostly just being accident’s, but my dad passed when he was doing ranger work and tried calming down Pokémon that a trainer left in the wild.
Another reason I hate team plasma, but now isn’t the time for bitter memories. Once the incense sticks fizzle out I head back inside and put on sunscreen and my circular hat which I forgot to do in the morning even though I know that my semi pale skin can get sunburnt quite easily. One last check making sure I haven’t forgotten my phone and I start heading to the lab alone. No wild Pokémon are allowed in the lab unless it’s been granted permission to enter and my mom still being asleep.
After saying goodbye to the Eevee duo I start walking at a sedate pace to the lab and start taking the sights in, Pallet is a small town and each house is spaced quite a bit from each other but everyone knows the community is close knit. With each step I take I see more wild Pokémon just waiting for a new trainer to either battle against or be caught by, very few of them don’t know the tradition that takes place and those few are gonna be trashed first and foremost by adults who want to keep the kids safe, all the others that don’t wish to fight are just observing the kids that will come out of the lab with new partners alongside them and then try and wait to find our if they became as amazing as professor Oak had once been.
I’m actually a little scared now that the lab keeps getting bigger and bigger with each step I take and before one say could Alomomola I’m standing right in front of the sliding doors starting to have second thoughts when I get attacked by some ugly fighting type Pokémon from distortion.
“What are you still standing around for dweeb? Lets head inside already” oh, it’s just the local red headed Primeape Amy. If I didn’t know any better I would’ve thought she just used aura to bruise my back, but I do know better and she’s only using her muscles to try and kill me.
Before I can even think of arguing we’re already inside the waiting room and I can tell Amy still wants to talk with the way she keeps looking at me from her magazine she picked up. After an eternity that was actually just five minutes I decided to strike a conversation while we wait.
"Hey did you ever get around to doing that science quiz thing that Miss Dolores put up on wizzkid?" Her eyes sparkle remembering the last homework from our science teacher.
"Oh yeah, it was so cool how we did that mix and match thing for the DNA and then we'd, like, see the actual Pokemon the DNA belongs to and the fun facts. Oh man, I kinda wanna just stay a bit longer and do stuff like that but being a trainer's gonna be so cool."
“So still gonna pick Squirtle?” The question gets a snort out of her.
“Of course~ we already discussed this, plus this Squirtle is gonna have Aura Sphere so that pretty much sealed the deal remember?” She retorts tossing her auburn hair in my face. Her braids hurt the most.
After talking for another fifteen minutes, with her ‘playfully shoving’ me around, my new bruises were allowed to rest once someone came through the door.
“Yo, Mirielle finally showed up huh” UGH, why did Amy just say that. The stupid Bouffalant doesn’t even realize that she said the wrong thing because Giratina knows she’s got the social awareness of a Slowpoke, honestly makes one wonder why she always has the right words for me.
“Mirielle, I’m so glad you came so quickly. Otherwise Amy here would have killed me with her ‘playful’ jabs” I make sure to air quote the word playful. See, that smile and light giggle are exactly what she needs and everyone start’s brightening up, even the receptionist and some baby Pokémon that cross by.
Course she sits next to Amy and we starts talking about how her choice of Pichu is perfect for her since she doesn’t really want to battle a lot. We also have to reaffirm her desire for journeying since she always gets shy after she starts thinking about being outside the town for so long. We can always tell when she starts getting anxious by the way she twirls some of her black hair that goes a little below her shoulders.
Twenty minutes turn into an hour, an hour turns into an hour and a half and when it’s been almost two hours since Amy and I arrived the door gets slammed. Only after the person who ran into it takes a step back does it open and allows him to come through.
“Hey mister Slowbro, glad you could make it finally.” I verbally jab at him, seldom does the car loving dude actually arrive on time.
He just pull back his frizzy silver hair and says. “Well, I actually have a reason why I’m late. The Dodrio drivers just announced their newest model and it’ll be out in a few months.”
”Doesn’t matter, it’ll still be slower than a Rapidash you know” Amy for the back-up. I don’t know whether to be happy or annoyed that we’re on the same page about this.

“Well, I think it’s cool that James thinks of something other than those contests and the movie studios he kept on talking about.” Mirielle spoke and honestly. True.
"Hey, movie studios are awesome. How else would we have big cinematic movies in the first place." Again. True.
Now that all four of us were together the receptionist sent someone to get the professor and promptly proceeded to guide us towards an open stadium with a table and four pokeballs filled with creatures and multiple empty ones behind them, all of which is right in front of us. Wordlessly we wait in anticipation for the professor to arrive and officially begin our adventure.
After about ten minutes of waiting all four of us perk up when we hear footsteps growing louder with every second.
“Greeting’s intrepid youngsters, my apologies for being late I was researching a very interesting rock type Growlithe, for now I must congratulate you as you are about to become Pokémon trainers who will go on to make fabulous memories. Before we begin I will explain the rules you must adhere to for your journey such as keeping only six Pokémon maximum, though your carry limit can be increased depending on how mature you have been during your journey.” The Professor then explained about how we can’t do anything illegal, what constitutes as something illegal, and how we will need specific papers to be allowed in dangerous areas such as Mt. Silver.
We follow along and even answer a couple questions he shoots at us. Amy gets most of the biology questions while I get a ton of the general rules. James and Mirielle were more than fine with answering about stuff in cities.
“Now that we’ve gone through all the actions you cannot partake in how about all of you start heading towards the table and stand beside the Pokémon you wish to take with you."
With that the four of us scooted over to the table and stood beside our choices, Mirielle was at the leftmost while Amy was at the rightmost. I was in the middle of Amy and James and judging by the way both of them were fidgeting it was safe to say that the invitation to open the four marked poke balls was tantalizing.
"Now, how about we start from a left to right order shall we?" said the receptionist, I was 70% sure that she was a robot but judging by the way she was trying to stifle her giggles when looking at us it was obvious she was a living being. Or maybe she wanted us to think that.
Slowly Mirielle started by picking up her five empty poke balls in front of her and then took the sixth ball with her chosen partner. She picked up the ball and unclipped the lightning mark from her ball whilst pressing the button and aiming it towards the ground, suddenly out came a flash of light which landed on the floor and as quickly as it came it then disappeared and left a yellow rodent that was on all fours before suddenly standing up and balancing itself with its heart shaped tail.
"... Professor, why does my Pichu look different?"
"Well unfortunately the Pichu you were going to receive had recently managed to evolve and became the Pikachu that stands before you."
A yell of 'Pika, Pika' and some snapping of fingers led all our gazes back towards the Pikachu who looked like we should have appreciated her entrance more.
"Sorry Pikachu for taking the spotlight but this is necessary for your trainer to learn more about you," the professors reasoning placated the electric rodent but it was mostly the scratches from Mirielle that eased it. "now Mirielle I want you to unclip the paper from the back of the electric magnet while your fellow trainers open their pokedex and aim it at Pikachu
We all started to our task and suddenly everyone's pokedex, sans Mirielles', beeped with a screen stating that our DNA was locked to our respective machine. While that was happening Mirielle unhooked the paper from her clip and started opening just as our pokedex was showing the list of details regarding this Pikachu.

“Now what you need to understand is that this Pikachu is not allowed to evolve similar to its parent, as the second Pikachu to be on a champion team this one’s parent is champion Chase’s partner Pokémon.” warned professor Oak.
If what he’s saying is true, and why wouldn’t it be, he just gave a guaranteed champion tier Pokémon right out the gate to a new trainer.
If people found out about this, many would have expectations around her and would try and force her to become a champion herself, a role that my current friend could never handle, and they would forcibly condition her to become one. The Professor and the receptionist are the only ones aside from myself who understand this and judging by the way they look at us it seems that they are trying to gauge our understanding of the social aspects of being a trainer.
If people trying to force her to be champion was bound to happen, then there needs to be someone who is clearly her superior in battling with a far greater reputation taking the spotlight instead; something I wouldn’t actually hate to do.
Sensing that the moment of revering Mirielle’s partner was over James then set down his pokedex on the table and repeated the actions Mirielle had just done ending it by unclipping his leaf shaped magnet from the filled ball and pressing the mechanical button before tossing it up just for it to open and a light to come out before falling to the ground, out of this light came a green frog-like creature with a plant bulb on its back. Wordlessly, James decided to hold his hand a few centimeters shy from the Bulbasaur which waited a few seconds before nuzzling the hand. We all gathered the information for this Bulbasaur, with Mirielle having locked her DNA with her pokedex, and looked at the blurb of information about it before locking into its stats.

“Unfortunately, due to the low power and young age of your Bulbasaur I will have to ban the both of you from using Power Whip until your partner masters how to use Vine Whip,” The professor warned “other than that you are allowed to use all the other moves and any moves that Bulbasaur learns naturally.”
Right then the receptionist cleared her throat and pointed to the poke ball that landed very far away.
“Hehehe, I forgot to tell you all but until you learn how to position the ball to land back into your hand I would suggest opening them while they're still in your hands.” Oak chuckled
Mr. Slowbro had the decency to look embarrassed and started towards it right when I put down my pokedex and took my empty balls into my pocket, right then Amy got impatient and was motioning for the both of us to go at the same time. I acquiesced to her request by nodding and we both took the remaining poke balls and unclipping our respective magnets before pressing the mechanical button and releasing our respective partners at the same time, after which we tried our own methods of taking our partners to accept us.
Amy gave headpats to the Squirtle and another hand to give scratches under its chin, meanwhile I motioned Charmander to give me a hug which it did and then started rubbing it’s back noting that the flame on its tail started growing brighter the longer we embraced. Coos and cries of sadness appear when both of us move away from our partner and wordlessly we open our papers to view at them together as we left our pokedex’s back at the table.

“Similarly to young James’s Bulbasaur you cannot use both Ice Beam and Aura Sphere until you receive proper training; understood?” Amy nodded at the professor’s question.
We both moved back to the table to join our friends and their partners that were sitting on the table, we then all pocketed our pokedex and started moving towards to pick up the books we were given before Amy decided to have a brilliant idea for once. And this doesn’t involve me nearly dying, yay.
“How about we all have a Pokémon battle against each other, the platform at school that the teachers use sometimes could work.”
A solid plan that would be both safe and a teaching lesson to occupy kids, did my mother put this plan in the Primeape’s head. We all nodded to it and started discussing about when it would happen tomorrow since we would need to start heading out to other cities eventually and even though we were mature 10 year olds we were still 10 year olds.
Plans set we all went to our parents to give them the news and then asked the principal if it would be permissible, thankfully we were given the all clear and headed home with our respective partners to introduce them to our families.
When I came home my mother was surprised to see I had a Charmander since its evolution was also one of the Pokémon that went rampant during my father’s last patrol, it wasn’t the creature’s fault that it’s trainer dumped it at a random location so I shouldn’t hate it’s species or any other Pokémon that gets released from trainers. Unless the Pokemon’s inherently evil like some Malamar or really mean like Zangoose and Seviper.
I placed my books on my bedside for midnight reading since I was gonna stay up late with excitement and took out my pokedex where Leaf and Shadow could see. They already know what I was going to do with it and they wanted to find out their moves when they woke up tomorrow morning to which I agreed.
As I got into bed in my night suit my sleeping partners and Charmander were all ready to lay asleep with me…
“Hey Charmander, would it be okay if I gave you a new name instead?” A happy char was all I needed “How about Chardon, maybe Char for short” another happy char, or should it now be Char?
Soon after, Chardon and Leaf snuggle on my right with Shadow on my left as I keep the nightlight on for reading up on the rules on being a trainer. I just knew I wasn’t going to finish this anytime soon and was bound to give this a reread afterwards incase I miss anything.
Too bad I didn’t start with the other book, it would’ve helped me later when I thought I was gonna die.
