96. A Familiar Smell

96. A Familiar Smell

"As if you would have let me do this!"

"Where is this coming from Carnie?"

"You act all rebellious but stay in your cage, why, with you're ability you could have broken out of here by now. We could have, so why?"

As Carnie shouts at her, Red walks closer, "To what." Carnie looks at Red confused, "To what Carnie, I have nothing to go to, no one to break out for. That's why I haven't left yet, but if you leave..." Red looks at Carnie before glancing at me for only a second, "If you leave, I leave."

This. This changes everything! With Red working alongside us we'll be out of here for sure!

"This is perfect, Red, you can start punching through the walls. If you clear a path for us we'll protect you while you do it...What?" Did I say something wrong? Why are they looking at me like that?

Carnie was the first to respond, "She can't."

"What do you mean? Are the walls that strong?"

This time Red spoke up, "My ability, it isn't strength, it's telekinesis. Anything I touch I can control and manipulate. Picking something up, almost no matter the weight, throwing something across the room, making a shell around myself so nothing can hurt me. This is how I mimic super strength. The problem comes with breaking things. I can increase the power of my punches, but not enough to rip through these reinforced walls, so I have to rely solely on my ability for that. I could do it a couple of times, but crushing or breaking something with my ability is much harder than just lifting or throwing it so I'll exhaust my ability before we ever make it out."

Well, there goes that plan. It would have been so much easier too!

"We're still sticking with my plan, even if she is with us!"

Red looks at me with wide eyes, "You're following Carnie's lead?"

After giving her a confirming nod she sighs, putting a hand over her face. "What the hell is that supposed to mean Red-Red?"

"Now I understand why you didn't tell me, I thought this was Tom's idea. If I would have known it was yours... and you, you agreed to this?"

"Agreed is a strong word, more like forced."

"She's just a kid!"

"Hey, fuck-faces I'm not just a kid! I'm older than I look, but even if I wasn't there's another reason why I should be the one in charge. Brains, human brains." Now it was Red and I staring at Carnie. "Don't give me that look! Listen, if I eat someone's brain I get a bit of their knowledge. So the more people I kill, the more information I'll have and the better my plan will get."

Wait a second, if she has to kill and eat someone's brain to get the information, and then use the information to make the plan... Does that mean she didn't have a plan, to begin with?!

"Let's talk while we're moving." We have been standing here too long, I take off jogging in a direction, them following close behind me. "So, what is this great plan of yours looking like right now?"

"Do you smell that? Its blood."

"Not surprising considering you were just chewing on someone's arm."

"No, up ahead. Stop!" Sensing the distress in her voice Red and I halted, looking to Carnie with curiosity. "I have a bad feeling about this. We'll take this route instead." Pointing down a hallway perpendicular to the one we were on Carnie started heading down not waiting on us.

"You haven't forgotten about our deal, right?"

"Don't worry, I already have an idea where to get the information from."

"They're here too!"

"Oh, god, we have to run!"

Noticing us, what looked to be two male residents of the disciplinary wing ran away from us as if their lives were on the line. Carnie leaped forward grabbing the closest one by the arm.

"What is going on here, why do I smell so much blood!"

Carnie's direct and aggressive questioning seemed to seize the boy's voice with fear.

"No, let Adam go!"

Ice shot from the other one, heading straight for Carnie. Red put her arm out shielding Carnie, the ice shattering on impact with her arm.

"You better chill the fuck out, we don't want to hurt you, we just want him to answer the question."

"Bullshit, all of you people from the penitentiary-wing are monsters, and after what that guy did -- I won't let another friend die!"

"What the fuck are you-" before Red could reason with him he began attacking. An onslaught of ice shards of all shapes and sizes shot at her. With every step she took to close the distance the sound of glass crunching echoed.

Meanwhile, Carnie wasn't fazed at all by the battle only feet away from her. It makes sense considering who was protecting her. She focused solely on the guy in front of her.

"Listen, I'm not going to kill you, calm down, because if you don't I might just have to snap one of those toothpicks you call legs."

"Please I want to live..."

Carnie slammed him up against the wall that he was already pinned to, "Dammit, what did I just say you dumb-fuck! Tell me what happened here."

"You mean, you're really not with him?"

"I swear..."

"I'm sorry, your just so scary. There was a man, he's in here somewhere, please we have to run!"

"YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE, until I get answers."

"No, no, no-no-no. We have to, he's going to kill us! He started shooting everyone! The agents came but he killed them too. If you ran he killed you, if you cried he killed you, if you hid he killed you! Don't let him kill me!"

"If that's true then why didn't he kill you already?"

"The agents, there were three of them. We ran while they fought him. He said he didn't want to waste all his ammunition so he started killing them with knives! He kept stabbing them!"

Screams came from Red's direction. Glancing over, Red looked to be crushing the ice boy's hand while he desperately tried to free himself from her grip.

"What did I tell you! I said I didn't want to hurt you! But noooo, you wouldn't stop. Are you going to stop now!"

"Please, my hand, you're breaking it!"

"Yeah, well look what you did to my clothes."

"I couldn't help but respond to that, "I think you look good that way."

"Shut up Tom!"

Where Red's clothes were baggy enough the ice shards had ripped and shredded them. Sadly the only place where her clothes were that baggy was her stomach and chest. Her clothes on her legs had remained unscathed.

The skin-tight stuff must be in her little barrier that she has up for her defense, that's the only way it could have taken all those hits without a scratch.

"Wait, Tom, your Tom!"
