106. Betraying A Friend

106. Betraying A Friend

"You, have no right to judge HIM! ... But, you're still his kid, and someone who meant everything to the woman he loved. Even if that didn't mean anything to him, I'm not him." The teleporter relaxed his aggressive stance and squatted down next to the body. "I was supposed to kill you if anything happened, he even made sure I had enough explosives to level this place twice over." He leaned over the head, staring into the still, open eyes, "But you promised me not to die, you SWORE you didn't come here to die. You lied, so this makes us even." Tears began to rain down on the severed head, "I'm sorry, I know you won't understand, but I've been watching them for years... I can't kill her son, your son."

He could be saying that just so I drop my guard, but I have no other options. I'll make something out of this opportunity even if it's a false one.

Jason, Jason are you there?

While I was attempting to get Jason to pass a message to Red, I heard the sound of my plans being crushed, it came in the form of a girl's voice, "Where. Is. My. MOM!"

The teleporter looked over to Carnie who was getting off the floor, "I'm truly sorry, please know it wasn't my inten-"

Without letting him finish his sentence Carnie lept towards him with her signature inhuman speed.

No, Carnie, you'll ruin everything. Fuck, I can't move with these injuries, hell, even without them I wouldn't be able to stop her. If only... of course, she read my mind before I even had the thought. I could see Red flying from beside me to block Carnie's path.

After colliding the only thing moving was the air rushing away from them as if in fear. Carnie was the first to speak, "Red, what the fuck do you think you're doing?"

"He's giving us an opportunity to leave, you... we won't be able to beat him. He's already said he doesn't know where your mom is so it would be for nothing."

"FOR NOTHING!"

"That's not what I meant, he doesn't know where your mom is Carnie."

"He's lying then!"

"What reason does he have to lie?"

"You! You just don't want to fight him because your fucking buddy wouldn't survive it. That's all your thinking about in that bitched brain of yours, isn't it? You get some dick and all of a sudden you're in 'love'. "

"No, that's not-"

Their verbal battle was interrupted by the one they were talking about, "She's already dead, I'm sorry."

Why the hell would he say that, I thought he didn't know? Did he lie to me, or is he lying to her?

Carnie tried to leap over Red at his words but was bearhugged from behind by her. Now being her only option, she spoke, "SHE CAN'T DIE SO WHERE IS SHE!"

The teleporter closed his eyes with a deep sigh, "If you must know. She is more than likely in space. No matter who, they can't survive in that. I'm sorry, it was a horrible accident on my part."

Wait, was he trying to comfort her by telling her she died? There is a possibility that her mother isn't floating off into space, but fell back to the earth somewhere. However, that possibility might have Carnie searching for her mom for the rest of her life. What kind of insane person is he? Working with someone who has single-handedly slaughtered how many kids at his facility, yet he tries to comfort a single girl?

While he spoke his words were nearly drowned out by the animalistic sounds coming from Carnie who was trying to escape from Red's grip. Clawing, biting, and kicking, she used every option she had and almost managed to break free. It forced Red to squeeze so hard I could hear the sounds of more than a dozen bones breaking. However, she didn't scream in pain, only rage. "YOU MOTHER FUCKER! I JUST, GOT HER BACK! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! Tear you limb from limb, eat your intestines out while you breathe, kill everyone you..."

Her incoherent screams were snuffed by Red slamming her into the wall. The newborn silence was extinguished by his soft-spoken words, "I'm sorry." As the last of the soundwaves left his mouth he was gone.

The moment she realized it, Red rushed over to me with Carnie still under one arm. "Are you alright? Why the fuck did you move around like that. How's your wound? Shit, I can't tell if this is new blood or the old."

"Red, I'm fine. Wayne, he's safe right?"

"Yes, he's fuckin' safe. I didn't rush back before I got him safe if that's what you're worried about! You should be more worried about this damn hole in your stomach. Dumbass, we need to find Veronica." Red then walked over to the hole she tore through the ceiling with her entrance.

"What are you doing?"

She held up Carnie, "When she wakes up it isn't going to be pretty."

I expected that, but what does she plan to do?

Red grabbed Carnie's ankle and dropped her from under her arm. She then brought the small-built girl around to her back while Red faced out the hole.

She doesn't plan to?

WHOOSH! Carnie's body went flying out the hole at an incredible speed. If I didn't know Red's ability I would have questioned how Carnie's foot didn't tear off. She walked to me, "Now shut up and look pretty." After carefully picking me up we were launched out of the same hole, propelled through the air and towards Carnie by a single leap from Red's powerful legs. The sensation of flying turned into falling, making the pain in my stomach even worse. The increased pain was short-lived, but not because we landed.

Looking over her shoulder I saw a single arm holding onto her collar, and following it up, I saw Angel.
