Chapter 27: Operation II

Chapter 27: Operation II

By the time the Assault Squad had penetrated deep into the compound, they encountered an environment largely devoid of hostile forces, thanks to Satoshi’s goons having cleared much of the area beforehand. The compound, once bustling with activity, was now effectively sealed off from the outside by a comprehensive defense system orchestrated by Satoshi. His decision to trap the compound with an advanced barrier had cut off all possible exits or entries, enveloping the area in a formidable shield of particles, formerly at least.

From his vantage point on the rooftop of his base of operations, Satoshi observed the situation with a grim satisfaction. He lifted his hand, pointing decisively at the objective as he commanded, “Activate Barrier 04!” The barrier materialized rapidly, enveloping the compound in a dense, shimmering wall that left no room for escape. The large barrier completely encased the objective, effectively trapping the Assault Squad within.

Inside the compound, the sudden activation of the barrier caused immediate confusion. The Utility Squad, struggling to maintain communication with the Assault Team, received fragmented updates. Toru, in his last transmission, issued a critical order: to launch an attack on Satoshi while he was still exposed. This directive was met with hesitation from Hitomi and Sozen, who were uncertain about the best course of action amidst the sudden shift in circumstances.

Despite the initial uncertainty, Hitomi was ultimately convinced that Toru’s judgment was sound. Sozen, recognizing the gravity of the situation and the importance of following Toru’s lead, reluctantly agreed. They decided to mount a covert attack on Satoshi, understanding that the barrier likely contained his most formidable units.

Meanwhile, Toru and Elvis efficiently dispatched the remaining defenders within the compound. The enemies, though equipped with decent weaponry and armor—thanks to their substantial resource points—were still largely unprepared for a serious fight. Most participants in the peacekeeper exams lacked advanced combat training, as civilian access to firearms and formal combat training was limited. The general population relied on martial arts, weightlifting, and the rare opportunity to develop cognitive abilities through sanctioned science to bolster their physical prowess.

In this context, the assault was relatively straightforward. Most combatants, even with some basic armament, were not accustomed to high-level conflict. They had relied on sheer numbers and basic equipment, which proved insufficient against the well-coordinated and strategic approach of Toru and Elvis. The advantage lay heavily in the superior preparation and tactical acumen of the Assault Squad, enabling them to handle the situation with relative ease.

As they cleared the last of the defenses, their focus turned to the next phase of their strategy: dealing with the complexities of the barrier and the remaining forces, and ultimately securing the objective.
