If you're reading this right now, it either means you've hacked my account or that the first season of Peacekeeper Trials has come to an end.
This was my first completed story, and I had a lot of fun writing it! From building the world and making sure it wasn’t too similar to anything that already exists, to studying ways to establish character motivations, to experimenting with the LitRPG elements and even the battle choreography.
Speaking of the latter, it really surprised me to learn that battle outcomes had more to do with character motivation and story direction than with each side’s raw stats, even in a LitRPG. You sort of create the climax moment(s) and then build towards them. At least, that’s a straightforward way to do it.
You’re also allowed to approach it the other way around, but that takes significantly more brainpower, in my opinion.
I regret not making the chapters longer because someone mentioned that the word count affected their enjoyment of the story. Retrospectively, it really seems that this story has too few words for the number of chapters it has. For anyone who feels that way, I truly apologize.
I will do better next time.
I picked up on many things while writing this story, and if I were given the chance to go back in time and redo it, I would decline. I put a piece of myself into creating this, and in turn, it also reshaped me. So I say let it exist.
Now to the important part: Will this story continue?
If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Yes, it will, just not right away.
I may continue where it left off or rewrite it, keeping the story and adding much-needed descriptions at some point, but that won’t be anytime soon.
To put it bluntly, this was a product. A product I enjoyed making and putting my soul into, and one which failed the test of popularity.
I want to believe that I write to become a good writer first and a successful one second. As much as I’d love to spend every moment fine-tuning my figurative child, I must let it go and let it find its own way.
Maybe it will randomly explode in popularity at some point. Who knows?
Until then, I’ll keep writing and learning from my mistakes (of which there are many), and when I’ve amassed a decent amount of knowledge and experience to undoubtedly release an objectively great work, I will come back and give this story my full professional attention.
So what’s next?
I have another story written halfway through in the same fashion (i.e., short and unfinished) that I’ve held off on for now as I approach the school season.
Yep, I’m a student, and I need to pay bills at some point—an expense that writing less successful stories won’t cover.
Don’t get it twisted; I love creating worlds and stories and will always do so, but it’s honestly time-consuming and somewhat unreliable for generating income.
I need to be in the right financial and mental state to create beautifully, and it wouldn’t sit right with me to produce anything less than beautiful stories, even if the goal is revenue.
I had an opportunity to write this summer and took it, and my investment failed, which is a valid outcome. I’m going to do something else for a while before trying again. It’s simple and harsh, but it’s the truth.
Lastly, I’d like to thank each and every one of you who made it to this point! You’re all truly wonderful for giving a small writer a chance ^~^
