Chapter 58 [Sarah]

Chapter 58 [Sarah]

"So just that phrase had silenced Melephas?" inquired Karastak as he used his magicks in order to restore the gaping hole in the northern wall. The entirety of the group, along with the enthralled Lizardfolk, were outside the city as this took place. For the Fallen God had given the Goblins their own home, and would be venturing forth for conquest of Asha'ruun.

Yes. Even the Human was there, but wore a deep frown upon his features. For he had found out that the Goblins launched by Rojaahn were all from his project casino, and was quite upset from the loss. Of whom even whined to his so called brother, but was subsequently ignored due to the want of knowing what had occurred whilst he was fighting the golden armoured Fool. This meant the Mage was unable to have his way, one that allowed many of the Undying to grin amongst themselves.

"Where to next, my Lord God?" inquired Brutus as he strode forward in order to stand to the right of his God.

"There should be a town to the north of here, if I recall correctly," the Fallen God tapped the area where his right cheek should be. For the entirety of his face was without any discernable features, and only contained three pairs of opened orbs of crimson. Of course, it one were to peer closer, one would note that there was another pair of eyes at the bottom, but such a thing would remain closed until an aspect of his self was met. Until then, such a pair would forever remain closed, which was not important to one such as he at this time.

"You mean the mining town the Dwarves ran?" chimed in Amira, her ears perked whilst her three tails swayed in a slow manner.

"Hmm," he hummed slowly, and bobbed his head a few times in agreement, "Though in this world, it could be run by more of the Beastfolk... Hmm." His voice trailed off as he contemplated on what task they should perform next.

However, the suggestion which would seal the fate of those who breathed upon this world came not from his own mind, nor from his servants, but from Melephas. Of whom grumbled out, "Why not just burn the town? I mean, they're not real and will come back to life once we leave."

"Not. Real?" growled several of the females within Karastak's group, each of whom held the naked desire to smite the Human before them. Even going so far as to prepare several spells in order to cast them upon the wretch that dared to voice about the people of this world not being real when they heard their cries and witnessed their deaths.

The Fallen God, on the other hand, held up his right, primary clawed hand to still their actions as he inquired, "What do you mean by 'they will come back to life once we leave'?"

The Human then smirked whilst brushing off his robes, slowly removing the minute traces of dust from the fabric. Such an action, by the by, infuriated Sia and Amira to the point of their primary clawed hands reaching up and slapping the back of his head with enough force to cause him to fall upon his front. This led to him declaring, "Alright, I'm not saying another word until your minions apologise. 'Cause that really hurt; taking away two-thirds of my HP."

"Another unknown phrase, Melephas?" Karastak rubbed the area in which his temples should reside before striding over and squatting to view the other more closely, "They're not going to apologise, and you're going to tell us what it is you meant by your words."

"How about no, and we say I did?" grinned the other, but was subsequently hoisted into the air by the other. Whereupon the Fallen God did outstretch his wings and launched himself with the Human in tow. Of course, those below milled about with some worry, but Brutus soon took charge of their persons, calming their minds as he directed them the task of scorching the bodies left near the city.

High above their persons, however, Karastak held the Human out in front of his person. Between themselves and the ground was naught, but open air. Of which was made apparent to the captive who, surprisingly, did not struggle as one would when faced with the off chance of being released to plummet to the ground. Instead, Melephas just grinned up at his apparent brother as though fully believing his person to be safe.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Unfortunately for himself, the other was not in a trying mood at that time, and held him aloft whilst demanding, "What did you mean by your words?"

"Which ones?" the Mage grinned as though it were nothing more than a game to him, and was subsequently dropped a dozen metres before being scooped back up.

"What did you mean by these creatures regaining life once we leave?" growled the Fallen God, his eyes glowing with a deep and naked hatred for the other. It was as though his mind had been released from some unknown hold over his person, and believed it came from the one before him. No. Such is not the truth, but only a half-truth.

"Oh that?" Melephas pat the endarkened arms slowly, "Well, if you put me down on the ground, gently, then I'll... What're you doing?" His eyes widened as the lesser clawed hands gripped his person, whereas the primaries wrapped themselves around his own head.

"You will give unto me your meaning, Melephas, even if I have to pry it out of your skull with force."

"Now, now," chuckled the Human with a strained laugh which borderlined on panic. However, the eyes of his person showed a general mirth for what was about to occur, "There's no need for," but it was too late.

For his body spasmed and seized as the chaotic energies of the Devil King surged through. Whilst this occurred, his own eyes welled up with tears, his mouth frothed with saliva, and the eyes drifted back and up. However, such an event, which seemed as though it lasted an eternity, ended almost in an instant.

This was due to the fact that the Fallen God desired to extract a piece of information, and not outright slay the one within his grip. Therefore, he was allotted the ability to survive, but would know to fear such an event if the Human ever dared to show insolence to the one he named "Brother". Or rather, should have been made to fear it.

Instead, the lights behind this one's eyes shown with a radiating greed which caused even he who transcended mortality to flinch mentally. This was so, as to show weakness would caused Karastak to lose some standings with those who respect his strength. Therefore, if the one before himself witness such a reaction, then surely he would exploit it somehow, yes?

In any case, the Devil King did sigh as the stolen memory found its way into his mind. Whereupon he did view such a concept in its entirety, and noted that upon the completion, failure, or dissolved request, the parties within the worlds will be henceforth removed in their entirety and brought before The Red Tribunal. Who would then judge those involved and reward them based on their actions. What is more, the inhabitants of the worlds in which they interacted with will be reset by their Gods and Goddesses up to the point of first contact with those who were summoned to their worlds.

Essentially, the inhabitants of the worlds would have their memories erased and their lives restarted so that they might live through that which was painful, pleasurable, tedious, or horrifying. Such a thing was a terror to Karastak's mind, as the thought of subjecting the inhabitants to their greatest stresses, and forcing them to relive such a thing every time a "Quest" was complete was mindboggling.

"Ah," he sighed slowly, his mental features stretching into a grin most foul to behold, "Whoever came up with this ability to bend time... I want it for my own."

"Um... What?" coughed Melephas, who was now hanging onto a lesser clawed hand, but not for dear life.

"Think of the tortures one could ensue if such beings upon their worlds were forced to relive their everything up to the point of meeting with whomever was summoned to their world," replied the other with joyous exuberance, "I want it for my self to use it as I may." After exclaiming such words, the pair did drift towards the earth below where they were met by the Undying who immediately ceased in the task brought upon their shoulders from Brutus.

Here, the group did express their desire to understand why it was they had launched themselves into the sky, but were also gladdened to not that the Human was tossed to the earth as their Lord and Master did speak, "Nevermind the reasons why, but listen close. For now we have a new task before us. One which will give us a quick end to this campaign, and we shall not need to spend many a moon traipsing through the lands in search of battle.

"Instead, we shall watch as the world around us burns to cinders whilst all life is extinguished. For the Gods of this world will simply rewind the damages caused once the war is over, and we are summoned once more before Roj and his Tribunal of Fools."
