"She's in the Library, Nox," the Ageless chuckled softly, then lightly pushed his son towards the door, "Why don't you go surprise her? I bet she'd appreciate your presence at this time."
"Okay, Papa," the child smiled up at his father, hugged his leg briefly, then scampered off. Thus leaving a now frowning God King, whose expression became a scowl as he vanished from the castle, and reappeared within a fairly large room containing many craters. It was as though the Gods above came down in order to smite this particular area with their rage.
No. It was only one God, and soon, he was firing off his energies into the surrounding. Of which was coupled with all of his rage, frustrations, and disappointment. These energies, the colours of Chaos, Madness, and Hollowed Rage, flew into the floor, walls, and ceiling with great force. Of which was enough to destroy whole worlds, but only caused the craters to become more refined by a few centimetres.
For such an area was used to dispel such feelings, especially when that which was within all Undead was not able to absorb it all. It even went so far as to keep the Madness at bay, as such a curse responded to great feelings of emotions. Of which would have been devastation for the Universe itself, if the fifth most powerful being were to unleash everything upon those who lived, laughed, and loved within such a place.
Therefore, he constructed this area. Of which was designed to pull his person whenever his mental stabilities were cracking, and keep him there until the balance within his person was restored. This, by the by, could take mere moments, or many cycles to accomplish. However, due to his desire for destruction being caused by only one being, it is doubtful he will be staying for much longer.
This was so, as the only one on his mind was his wife, the Goddess Sarah, and how much he felt about her betrayal. For the visions and feelings he received some time ago when he deigned to change her thoughts reduced him to such a mess. However, he still held feelings for her, and Nox still needed his mother.
Not only this, but the fact that he could not outright accuse her of what he saw would only come to light after speaking such a thing. Of which would then damn his person, and would lead to either another purge, or another tampering of Stories. The latter should not be done, as such a thing normally results in the death of the tamperer. Or, if it's your own, a great curse befalls that being.
Thus, his "hands were tied", as the saying goes, and could only wait, right? Well, not exactly.
"Brutus," the Ageless's voice thundered throughout the space, just as his eyes dimmed to a soft glow of vermillion, "I have need of you."
A portal, much darker than what was used to enter the Midnight Castle, formed within the centre of the room. In its centre was the crackling sound of discharged energy which only grew louder as a metallic, skeleton pressed its body through the vortex. Upon the brow of one such as he was a crown of briar thorns with motes of endarkened flames dancing about it. There was a robe upon the body, which was a ghostly pale green in colour.
In his right clawed hand was a white staff with many etchings of battles carved within it, and in his left was an old tome full of magicks that was chained to his wrist. Both of which were given to his person as gifts long ago, and were used as his symbols of office within the Pantheon. Not only this, but also greatly increased his repertoire of abilities and magicks.
"You called for me, my Lord High God," bowed the Lich King, and upon standing erect once more, whistled at the destruction all around his person. Upon turning his attention back towards the God King, he noted the fire within his eyes. One that always equated to a purging of sorts. "So? Which group needs to be removed?"
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
"What?" The Ageless paused in his desire to calm his mind and body, staring directly at his right hand in all things.
To which the other sighed with exasperation, "Every time you have that look about you, you desire something dead or wiped from existence. Therefore, I desire to know who it is, or which group is going to disappear so I can begin to mitigate the losses."
"It's Sarah."
"Very well, I shall begi-," the Lich King paused in his thought, and slowly turned to face his God with a surprised expression upon his metallic skull, "What do you mean by 'it's Sarah', my Lord High God? You cannot possibly be thinking of having her removed so suddenly." The Skeleton rushed to the other's side, ready to beg and plead for the Goddess's sake. For he knew just how much she meant to the God King, as well as to his sanity.
For him to suggest removing the Goddess of Iridescent Colours, mother of Nox, and Queen of the Gods and Goddesses within the Terran Pantheon was beyond insane in the Lich King's eyes and mind. "Please tell me you are not truly consi-" It was here that he noted the demeanour of his God, and the coldness which permeated from his eyes. For the thought of removing her was present in the form of a thought, not an action. Of which he was grateful for, but still worried and now insanely curious to know the why of it.
However, before he was able to speak another word, the Ageless lifted his right paw, and intoned a spell in an unknown language. This caused a bluish streak of energy to launch from the digits, and sank into that which was the room they occupied. Of which even closed the portal with which Brutus had appeared from.
Once such a thing had occurred, did the God King sigh a great and heavy sigh as his entire form cracked and fell away. Thus revealing something which will never be revealed to those without the room. For such a thing was something old, worn, and so very tired. Of which was slowly cared for by the Lich King, who summoned up a pair of chairs made of felt and red silks.
Upon seating this tired being, did its form slowly come together to create the Ageless's Kitsune self. Of which wore a white robe which hung loosely around his body whilst he was given a cup of black tea to drink.
"You have frightened me, my Lord High-," began Brutus, but was stopped by the uplifting of a right paw.
"Brutus, my dear child," the other began, causing the metallic Skeleton to feel something which was no longer there, "I desire many things in this life of mine, but never your fear. Therefore, do not present it before my eyes, for I will not recognise such a thing."
"Yes, my Lord High-"
"Brutus," the old being before himself watched his person with a tired gaze, "We are alone now. Speak the words which you have longed to shout upon the highest mountains for so long."
"Y-yes...," the Lich King fidgeted in his seat, "...Father..."
"Again."
"Yes, F-Father."
"Again."
"Yes, Father."
"AGAIN!"
"YES, FATHER!"
The pair howled at one another, for a time longer, which eventually devolved into laughter being shared by only a father and son could enjoy. Of which soon became silence, as neither knew what to say. That is, until Brutus softly whispered, "Thank you."
"You are most welcome, Brutus," grinned the other as his body slouched down within the chair with a sigh, "Much better."
"Um..."
"Yes?"
"Um... about Sarah. Are you really going to-?" His voice paused when his eyes noted the posture of his father becoming stiff once it sat back up.
To which the God King sighed slowly, not at all enjoying the conversation in which he knew he had started in the beginning. For his right paw reached to rub the back of his furred neck, which was a clear indication upon his thoughts. "Nox still needs his mother, Brutus, but..."
"He's attached to the Chosen, which could also be used as surrogate mothers," chimed in Brutus, whilst the other nodded.
"Yes, but there is another problem. I've tampered with her mind for too long, it is without a doubt that the Judges will note this. Therefore, I must find another means to do away with her... Bah, enough of such a thing." The God King waved away such a thought from his mind, and instead turned towards the Skeleton with a slight grin.
"Very well... Father," this was spoken softly, as though he could not believe he was allowed to speak such a word, "Then what shall we speak of?"
"Hmm," the Ageless hummed softly to himself for, but a moment before speaking aloud his thoughts, "Do you remember a world called Second Earth?"
If the other head flesh upon his skull, his lips would be frowning at this point, "Would you mind reminding my memory about such a world?"
"Of course, my child," and spoke of the story which was given thus far to Nox and his three friends.
