Chapter 17 [Ageless]

Chapter 17 [Ageless]

After such an event occurred, as well as after contemplating whether or not the Humans, especially the Cleric, was sane, we turned our attention inwards. There, we noted the lay of the land was rather untouched, and Brutus noted the absence of fauna. Which simply means there was a lack of life around us, as opposed to the multitude of plant species still performing their duties to ensure they live and grow well.

"It's peaceful," muttered the female after wiping her mouth free of grit and sand on her sleeves.

'Far too peaceful,' my mind muttered to Brutus, who nodded and slowly raised his arms out in order to send forth his energies.

As he was in the middle of this, I was approached by the Humans who desired my attention. Upon giving it, they bombarded my person with inquiries as to how I was a Demon King, how I was able to transform my body, why I was called a God, and so much more. However, during such inquiries, they took not of my quiet voice. It was here that they finally spied my features, for although they were wreathed in shadows, they were still able to make out the outline. Of which the mouth and eyes were noticeably missing, but would only continue to press more and more until, at long last, Brutus had returned from his sendings.

"My Lord God," he called out, allowing my person to ignore the others completely, "There is something which requires your attention."

'You have it, Brutus,' came my mental reply. Within it was an echoing sigh of gratefulness towards my servant. To which he nodded, pointing with his right, primary clawed hand inwards of the island continent.

"There, several kilometres inwards, lies an encampment under attack by the Undead," his voice was empty of emotion, which was often taken as him being uncaring towards various events. However, I know him the most, and knew he was simply uncertain as to how to proceed with the news shared.

'Very good, my Lich,' my right clawed hands patted both of his shoulders, to which he sighed within his mind, and I was given a glimpse of joy before that which is in all Undead whisked it away.

I, on the other hand, squat down with my wings out stretched, then launched my self into the air. Whereupon I did face in the general direction given, and cast, '<>.' This caused my eyes, which were orbs of crimson, to become like that of an eagle. With it, too, came the ability to see greater distances, but with my own innate talents taken into account, I was able to view even more. Yes. The events which I used such an ability upon were always crystal clear. In that it felt as though I was right there amongst those who were witnessing whatever it was first hand.

It was here that I felt the familiar sense of vertigo, as my sight did race ever outwards. Everything, from the ground below, to the sky above, was sped up until it eventually stopped a few metres passed what appeared to be a small outpost full of Elves and Orcs sweating profusely upon the battlements. Yes. I did retract my gaze a little in order to have a better view of the surroundings.

Of which were revealed to be a great battle between the tired living, and the relentless Undead. The former wore what appeared to be silvered leaf-like chainmail, and yes, this extended from the Elves and to their Orc allies. Whereas the latter seemed to have a combination between that and tattered red leathers all about their persons.

These Undead, by the by, were of the physical sort, as I doubted they would last a single turn if they were incorporeal by nature. They were also a mixture of rotting dead and newly risen. However, those still living held the look of hesitation when placing destructive spells or arrows within them. My guess was that whoever the enemy was, this was the desired effect. For it meant they would fall faster, joining their brothers, sisters, family, and friends in service.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

'Hmm,' my mind hummed as I watched several individuals who appeared to be of a higher rank, going by their fancier armours, shout and bark at those under them. Most likely trying to raise morale, as the Undead continued to move towards such an outpost. Of which, after reacting and magnifying my gaze many times, noted that it would most likely last only another few turns before the walls brake open enough to allow such creatures to enter freely.

'My Lord God?' called out Brutus's mind from down below, 'What shall we do?'

'We shall head towards the nearest Undead, Brutus. I take it this one is the closest pocket?'

'It is, based on my findings.'

'Then inform the Humans that we shall be flying towards this pocket right now.' As I turned my attention towards the events which unfolded before my own eyes, I smirked mentally as the groans and complaints of the Humans below slowly rose in volume. For they appeared to dislike being up in the air, but joined my person nonetheless, as the alternative of being left behind was unappealing.

Before we could journey onwards, however, the Templar voice his concern about the other races, "With us being Human, won't they attack us on sight?"

"Yes," replied Brutus with a sneer within his tone, "What shall be done with them?"

To which I replied, not with words, but with a simple gesture of raising my lesser clawed hands in their direction as my eyes blinked in order to dispel that which I had cast. This allowed my person to release an illusory spell which transformed their bodies into Bright Elves. These sorts of Elves also contained another name, Sun Elf, which are the desert folk who traverse the wastelands as all nomads do.

After such an event was completed, we did begin our flight towards the area. Of which was nearest a great expanse of trees which contained a lake of putrid water. No doubt it was long ago infested with rotted flesh and dark energies, and yes, the Humans turned Elves gagged at such a stench. No. This was not present in those upon the ground, but perhaps they had long ago become used to such a thing, as they awaited their turn to knock upon Death's door.

The uneventful flight took us nary a decca-turn, as we continued onward until reaching half a kilometre away from the site. For I desired to watch and understand what was happening, as well as to capture one of the stragglers who were, at that time, turning towards my person as I alighted upon yellow and green grass. 'It appears I have some playmates,' my mind chuckled into Brutus's skull, where it rattled about and caused him to sigh in return.

There were three Undead before my eyes, two were Human in shape, but mummified. Whereas the third was of an Orc with oozing pustules along its left arm. The right was missing, by the way, most likely torn away by one of the Zombies or skeletons which attacked it in the first place. Whereas the rest of its body appeared to contain many a scratch and bite mark throughout the whole, and even its left hand was missing three of its five fingers. Which made it awkward, as it was doing its best to hold onto a rusted falchion within its grasp.

Upon fully noticing my person, the Humans dashed faster than should be possible, with their clawed hands outstretched in order to tear into my body. However, they were immediately stopped by my lesser clawed hands, and hoisted into the air. All the while, the third was slowly lumbering towards my person. The flesh of its legs and torso falling off in small chunks, revealing swollen tendons and yellowed bone beneath.

It appeared, within my own eyes, that this one was destined for a more skeletal path, but it did not concern my person. Instead, I focused upon the now struggling Humans, who were yowling and scratching at the claws which gripped it, and the shadowed arms which they were attached to. However, the shadows which wreathed my body also acted as extra armour, as opposed to just an intimidation factor. Which meant that their claws found no purchase, an left them at the mercies of my energies.

Which was what coursed through their bodies, as my primary clawed hands grip their skulls, wrenching it from their persons. So great was my pulling on their heads, or perhaps their forms were simply to weak, that their spines were pulled out as well.

This led to a few retching sounds to drift into my ears from behind, but I cared not for those of whom were weaker than I. Instead, I kept a firm grip of that which sought to bite my person due to the fact that their bodies had fallen away, and sent my magicks deep inside their minds. Whereupon I did find a feint link which allowed whoever it was to control their persons with whatever magicks they had.

'I... See... You,' whispered my mind to whomever it was, and sent my chaotic energies into such a link. Where it did cause the multitude of Undead to collapse, writhe, and set aflame. All the while, I did hear a feint scream of pain and anger, but that soon faded away as did the bodies of those who were forced into Undead servitude.
