Sunlight. Falling Snow. Chilled wind. The feeling of crisp cold air rushing past your face. These are things that exemplify a brisk morning walk in wintertime. This is what I felt as I walked through the kingdom of Celuduun. My journey to become a well rounded and righteous goddess had just begun and the lingering doubts continue to plague my mind. No matter what challenges might come my way I will continue to pursue my goal with streamlined focus. The fiery spirit within me bursting forth in multicolored and intense flames of passionate determination. I am the goddess Jenna: Goddess of Knowledge and Light.
It had been many months since I had awoken in this impossible world. When I first arrived my mind had been blank and my memories absent, the darkness of void releasing me to the chime of an unknown voice. Now as time has gone on the memories of my previous life flood back to me, though the details of my before body still frustratingly elude me. Not that they mattered now that I was in the body of a two-hundred foot tall little girl. A supreme goddess who looked not a day over nine but yet had mastery over seemingly the world itself. Never before had I imagined myself as an actual goddess but here I was. Magic and minds bend to my will and I grow more powerful as each new worshiper falls in behind me.
Summertime is when my eyes had opened to this fantasy world, a place where magic and monstrous beasts existed like from some kind of role playing game. Who knows what exciting things existed out there? Not to mention dangers. Throughout the summer and fall I had learned much about this world I had arrived in, both its land and its people. Now it was halfway through winter and my quest brought me to my current journey to visit the king of this kingdom himself. Far away in the province of Electrumus.
The name itself piqued my interest and the people back in the village of Doovlin say its named after the metal that made the kingdom prosperous back long long ago. Pretty cool I suppose. My memory is hazy but I'm pretty sure electrum is gold and silver combined. Supposedly there is a massive lake and huge river to the south and north of the capital city Norlov. Not to mention the absolutely huge forests to west and east.
This destination was over one hundred miles away from where I started and although that seemed like quite the distance for someone my size it should only take a couple hours. This of course was as the crow flies and didn't include all the rough terrain and whatever else might hinder my progress. While instant teleportation still remained a very tempting option I was committed to my leisurely walk. Even though I wasn't exactly stopping to smell the roses it did give me the chance to see more of the kingdom and present myself to its inhabitants.
Present myself I did: my massive feet thundering across the landscape and causing mini earthquakes with each footfall. My height insured anyone looking in my direction for miles around would see my head bobbing up and down even over the treetops of forests. If it had been night my flowing golden hair would also make it easier to spot me as it glowed brightly in the darkness with my blossoming power. Just seeing me would certainly fill people with fear and awe alike. The stories about goddesses of old painted them in a very terrifying light. People would be drawn to worship me out of fear alone, though worship through love is my ultimate goal.
Devotion through love is how I had obtained all my follows so far, both in Doovlin and the surrounding areas. Several towns and villages followed me along with a single large city. This wasn't discounting the many worshipers scattered all about the kingdom that I could track with the map inside my inner goddess zone. Those people were the reason I was able to make this trip in the first place, as without worshipers around a mysterious invisible wall contained me. It was my goddess zone of influence so to speak, a territory I controlled. At least this is how I understood it either for wrong or right.
Right now I was walking through a very beautiful countryside with several huge farms nestled between green hills. Of course with the snow of winter crunching on the ground beneath my boots there was no need to avoid stepping on the fields. There were no crops to crush underfoot so walking wherever I wanted was my current modus operandi.
"Jenna?"
My traveling partner spoke up in the back of my mind. It was of course Miya: my first and failed attempt at a high priestess. The pretty brown haired farmer's daughter who was so cruelly sacrificed in an attempt to control me. With the perpetrators dead and their plan foiled the poor girl lives on inside my mind due to some power I had unconsciously activated. Her body was preserved on a mountaintop and my sidequest for now was finding a way to put her back inside her body.
"Yes Miya?" I asked back to her by simply thinking.
"According to this map we're over halfway there now!" she continued in excitement. "I've never been more than a few miles away from home before this!"
It wasn't a big concern for me to have her sitting in the main area of my goddess zone and looking at my map readout. Honestly I've been working on viewing the information contained in there while still up in my body, though my success had been rather limited. There was a small amount of information I could see with my eyes closed. Things like mana reserves and a general colorless map of my surroundings as if in 3D radar. If you were sneaking up on me I could see you wither you be man or animal. Hearing your thoughts however? Not possible without touch unless you were my worshiper.
I smiled externally and internally both. "Yes Miya. The scenery so far really has been amazing. This world fits the moniker 'Realm of Fantasy quite well.' I think I'll even start calling it that as everyone just calls it 'the world' anyway. I hope my new outfit fits in."
"I think it fits in very well" Miya said back. "Though honestly its much to plain for a goddess."
The outfit in question was my new default look. Due to my apparent age being so young there was absolutely no revealing aspects to it regardless to my mental maturity. I had been an adult in my last life of course but here as a seeming child there was no place for sexy clothing.
First there was a wonderfully bright golden shirt that went down to my waist and almost to my elbows on my arms. Over it I wore a well fitting emerald green v-vest with several embossed bronze buttons along its middle. Then for below my waist there was my pretty snow white shirt that went down to my knees. My feet were bare inside shin height brown boots with no socks. Around my waist were brilliantly blue ribbons that extended when I summoned my giant books. In my shining hair was a large spiral galaxy hairpin that helped my style my luscious locks.
This outfit seems so un-warm for the dead of winter and drifting now one might exclaim. Well yes it is. Except I'm a goddess and I don't actually feel extreme temperatures, at least to the extent they negatively affect me. I get to dress however I want in whatever weather I want. Lucky me! As for why I'm wearing it instead of my previous winter outfit? I wanted to appear more regal for my big day with the king.
"By the way Miya" I thought to her. "What sort of attitude should I have when first meeting the king? High and mighty or more down to earth?"
Miya's response was somewhat distant, implying she was distracted by something.
"Well I think you should really show them what kind of goddess you are. That you won't be pushed around and will rule the kingdom peacefully but sternly."
"I don't really want to rule the kingdom" I thought back with a sigh. "Honestly just letting things go on like normal seems the best option to me. Just you know, with my input and whatnot."
There was no more communcation with Miya for several moments. Then just when I was about to say something to check in on her she chirps in again.
"Hey Jenna... You should probably come look at this."
Hearing this made me stop walking and dive down in the goddess zone. Now once again I find myself in the large room with all the fancy information readouts and the large world map. There was also the door to my mind palace of course but for now my attention was on the place Miya was pointing.
There was this nagging little blinking figure on the map in the near distance. It wasn't exactly a worshiper of mine so it was strange I was able to see them at all. I walked over to the map.
"Zoom and enhance!"
That was one of my favorite catchphrases. No one could ever hear it, well I suppose Miya could now, but regardless sometimes being silly is a good thing.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
The result was that the map zoomed out somewhat and slid over to the location the person was located. It appeared to be some kind of human male of middling age crouching underground in what could only be his cellar. There were also several other humans around him: his wife and two children. With him in view his voice came through.
"Please help us! Someone! Anyone oh please save me and my family!"
Now this was interesting. I could hear this prayer of his even though it wasn't directed at me. He was just crying out for anyone to save him and I just so happen to be able to pick that up. From what he was asking for deliverance from I had no idea. There were no other living creatures I could see in the immediate area. The barn nearby was pretty smashed up though.
"What do you think Miya?" I asked turning to my copilot. "Wanna go check it out?"
Miya clapped her hands together in excitement as she looked down to me. "Oh yes please goddess! You know I love helping people!"
I nodded and crossed my arms. "So be it! We're teleporting over."
With that I jumped back up into my body and initiated the teleportation circle. In a matter of moments the glowing circle slid down from my head to my feet magically appearing me in the vicinity of the praying man.
Once the process was over I found myself standing on a small homestead, my feet booming down into the dirt with one narrowly mission a fleeing horse. There was a small house, a large barn, some kind of grain storage building, and several small sheds. The aforementioned barn and sheds being absolutely smashed to smithereens. Like they were really demolished. The animals were fleeing everywhere. It was a maelstrom of feathers and fur.
In such a crisis situation it was critical to access the variables and come to a snap decision for action. My eyes lit up as I engaged scanning mode and frantically looked around the ground at my feet.
Thankfully all the animals were getting away safely, fleeing to the fields to escape the carnage. The farmer and his family were located under the house, their crouching frames showing up as glowing figures in my field of view even through wood and dirt. There were no other signs of life however.
I frowned and a look of bewilderment came over my face.
"What the frick?"
That was when I noticed it. In all the chaos and confusion I had overlooked it as a non-factor. There was a large object near one of the sheds that was absolutely glowing with pure overpowering mana. Immediately I disengaged my enhanced vision and looked straight at it. There before me was a large pile of rocks and dirt in the rough shape of a person. It was about eight feet tall and very bulky. The most jaw dropping part was that it was moving! And smashing everything around it up to boot!
"Holy shit!" I exclaimed aloud. "Its an earth elemental!"
Miya chimed up to me right away. "What's an earth elemental?"
I replied to her in thought as I took a step closer to it, my titanic form not seeming to alert it in any way. It seemed single focused on destroying that shed in front of it for now.
"An earth elemental is a large collection of dirt or stone that is animated with pure magical energy." I explained. "Basically its living earth. They normally don't have any higher thought or anything, generally just operating off of basic survival instinct or from commands given to them. This one seems to be destroying buildings specifically." I paused. "Was it summoned? Did it occur naturally?"
The elemental soon gave the finishing blow to the shed, the wood and tools inside scattering on the ground before it. That was when it finally turned its attention towards me. With surprising speed for something so heavy it trundled over to my right foot. Out of curiosity I waited to see what it would do.
To my honestly unwarranted surprise the thing took a huge swing at my foot! The probable ton of rock and dirt smashed right into the side of my toes and I actually felt it. It didn't hurt but I reflexively jerked my foot backwards with a boom.
"Hey!" I shouted. "Not nice!"
Then I crouched down and reached with my left hand towards it, trying to pick it up while it charged my foot again. It wasn't that easy to do dispute its size. People were pretty much bugs to me and this thing was only fifty percent bigger. I did however manage to pinch its center of mass between my thumb and forefinger, using my other fingers to sort of cradle it and pin it in place.
The sound of grinding stone grated my ears as it struggled to move between my fingers, though even its great strength was nothing compared to my own. With a simple increase of pressure my fingers managed to easily immobilize it. There was still movement of course but its limbs couldn't do anything significant.
"So cool!" I said. "And actually pretty cute too."
While holding it I turned my hand around to get a better look at it from all angles. My eyes were sparkling and my excitement was infectious.
"That thing is amazing!" Miya said. "What are you going to do with it Jenna?" Her mood then lowered. "I mean it did destroy a lot of stuff..."
"I'm not sure" I replied in thought. "But for now I'll analyze it."
I engaged my super goddess vision again and began scanning it. It was indeed just rocks and dirt animated with mana. There was a particular pattern to it however: a sort of binding thread that appeared in a certain pattern throughout its body. I think I can replicate this!
Crouching down to the ground while holding it in my left hand I looked at the dirt below. I'd want to use my left hand for this. With one quick motion I opened my right hand and dropped the thing into my palm. Then my hand closed into a first around it, completely hemming it in and binding it once again.
"Hmmmm..."
Focusing on the ground I touched it with my fingertips. Then I pushed some of my mana into it and imagined a figure made of rock and earth rising up in front of me. To my shock and delight another earth elemental began forming before my eyes! However my shock made me lose focus and it collapsed before fully taking shape.
I frowned and grunted in disappointment. I'd have to practice this. Still pretty freakin amazing that its possible in the first place though.
"Um Jenna" Miya's voice interrupted my thoughts.
My attention snapped back to my surroundings. I initiated another quick scan around me and saw that the farmer had moved up to the entrance of the cellar. He had the large wooden door cracked open and was peeking out of it and up at me. There was clear terror in his body langauge.
I stood back up to full height and lifted my hand with the earth elemental up. With a simple clench of my first I ground the thing into powder. The magic vanished as the mana dispersed. Then I opened up my hand and let the dirt and crushed rock rain down to the ground far below.
"You can come out of hiding now" I said flatly.
My gaze wasn't directly on him but I was looking at him through the corner of my eye. He was clearly terrified of me and this was a reaction I was used to by now. This would need to be handled with gentleness and tact. The first I was a pro at, the second not so much.
"Yes that's right. Come on out."
This time my tone was much more soothing, as if talking to a pet. I continued to only keep him in my peripheral vision as I figured me not looking directly at him would help ease his fear.
My tactics seemed to work and he carefully opened the cellar door wider and took a couple tentative steps out. He remained standing in the entrance instinctively regardless of the danger. I figured this was to protect his family, though of course he stood no chance of doing so if I was so inclined to harm them. Very brave. Very commendable.
It was then he said his first words, his voice shaking from fear and about to break.
"I-I dunno what you think you're d-doing round here l-little girl! But this here is m-my farm a-and I've got a f-family to protect!"
Very cute.
"I'm not here to harm you or your family" I said with a soft smile. "You called me here you know. I figured you'd be happy I took care of that rock monster for you know?"
He still couldn't fully see my face as I was still turned away from him. I was doing this on purpose as to keep him from being even more terrified than he currently was.
He looked at the powdered remains of the earth elemental scattered at my feet. He then gulped and looked around at his half destroyed farm. The emotional impact was clear from his energy readout. He then looked up at my head and managed to stammer another couple sentences.
"I t-thank you for taking care of that monster. It i-is hard to trust someone that wont even look a person in the eye though little missy."
With that I turned my head towards him. My entire body slowly swiveled around with my feet tearing up the ground with a loud scraping sound boots normally make in dirt. I then lowered my gaze and looked directly at him, his surprise clear on his face as his flight or fight kicked in.
"Oh you don't want to look directly into my eyes" I said with a slight smirk. "My name is Jenna by the way. Goddess Jenna. Have you heard of me?"
He took a stumbling step backwards after hearing that, the flight seeming to be winning.
I sighed and shook my head, my arms resting at my hips. "Is that really the response I get? I'm not that scary am I?" I looked around and then back at him. "Its not like I've done anything to harm you or your family right?"
The man looked down at his feet, an expression of embarrassment taking over his face. The flight or fight had passed and he seemed to be second guessing his behavior towards me.
"W-Well I" he started. "I mean that's true miss Jenna."
"Goddess Jenna" I corrected.
"G-Goddess Jenna" he stammered looking back up at me while avoiding eye contact. "I mean I t-thank you for saving us frm that thing. Its just..." he paused and looked away again. "The stories of goddesses are... Well..."
I crossed my arms and frowned. "Yeah I'm aware of them. Yet here I stand. A full blown certifiable goddess and I'm not stomping on you or enslaving you am I?"
He cleared his throat and looked even more embarrassed. "I mean... No."
"There you go then!" I said holding out my hands. "Why don't you go collect yourself and tell your family the good news. I'll be waiting out here for ya'll ok? You've been very brave by the way little man."
This seemed to put him more at ease and he nodded up at me. "Y-Yes goddess Jenna. And t-thank you again for saving us!"
After that he turned around and hurried back down into the cellar. His family was still waiting down there and could hear our entire conversation. Their reaction wasn't visible to me clearly though but I imagine it was similar or worse than the man's.
"What are you going to do now Jenna?" Miya asked.
I crossed my arms again and my brow furrowed in thought. Then I took a couple steps out into the nearby field and sat down with a thundering boom. If there had been any fine china on the shelf inside their house it would be shattered on the ground now.
"I'm going to wait for them to all come outside and we'll properly introduce ourselves" I thought back. "I think this whole interaction went pretty well."
There was agreement from my passenger and I decided to relax while I waited for the family to come out of hiding. This had gone much better than I had thought it would have. I think I'll practice making earth elementals while waiting.
