Chapter 5: Red zombie

Chapter 5: Red zombie

Dani shouted in fear.

"We flee! Now!"

A lot of sharp screams echoed in the car. It's possible one of them was mine. Ale quickly jumped out and threw a fireball. The zombie let out a pitiful cry and as it burned, it approached Ale slowly. He threw a second fireball, and the zombie finished incinerating. When it died, besides the white prism, there was a meteorite.

Two normal zombies approached Ale, but the twins threw a fireball at each. I stepped out of the car just as one approached Ángela very quickly. That one was special, pale red in color and had a kind of pale red coating on its body.

"Be careful! That's unusual!"

My white fireballs weren't working, so I positioned myself between Ángela and the zombie, covering my arms with red flames. The zombie tried to attack me with its arms, but I dodged them and quickly punched it in the face while sweeping its legs out from under it. This caused it to fall, and its protective film weakened, allowing me to kick it with a leg covered in fire. The second kick removed the coating.

When I looked around, my group had defeated 6 normal zombies (one with a horn), 2 fat ones, and 1 muscular green zombie. But we couldn't rest; 3 fast pale green zombies were approaching, one with a horn.

"Let's get into a house! Killing them makes more noise and more zombies will come."

We threw a white fireball at them, and they died easily. We picked up the crystals that had fallen and went into the first house we saw with an open door. It had two floors and seemed to be in good condition. We entered a hallway with stairs to the right, two doors straight ahead, and a living room to the left.

"I guess if you're running out of your house with zombies in the street, you don't bother to close the door."

"Shut up, Ale. Costas, Bea, and I will stay here by the door. The rest of you, go inside to check for zombies, more people, and ensure all doors and windows are closed. See if there's food and water. Try to do it quietly."

"Alright. Call us if there's any trouble."

In addition to the large living room, the ground floor had a kitchen, a bathroom, and a room with many books. Upstairs, there were 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We closed all the windows we found and covered them with furniture.

"There's not much food, but the lights and water work. These are the only windows on the first floor, and the rest are already closed. What do we do now?"

"Let's take stock of the crystals we have and absorb them. We should have more than 10 by now."

"There are some different ones."

All the cores were white and had the same prism shape, but what varied was the brightness they emitted.

"It seems the energy they give is the sum of the total energy of the race and the classes."

"There were 6 level 1 zombies (30 experience points), 2 level 2 zombies (20 experience points), 2 level 1 fat zombies (30 experience points), one level 2 fat zombie (20 experience points), 1 strong level 1 zombie (15 experience points), 3 level 2 green zombies (90 experience points), and the red one was a level 2 warrior zombie (50 experience points). That's a total of 255. If we add yesterday's, we have 270. That's enough for 2 to level up."

"They should be Ale and Juan, who have the double phoenix ability."

"I agree. After that, it should be Bea, Carlota, Ángela, and Dani, in that order."

"Okay. We have 2 windows upstairs, 1 downstairs, and the door. Dani and Costas should stay downstairs to maintain the furniture by the window and the door. The other five of us will be upstairs, with 2 at each window and one resting at the top of the stairs."

"Agreed. The zombies seem to be attracted by sound. Let's put a mobile phone in a car with the window open and call it."

"Good idea, that way the zombies are attracted, and we can shoot them from the upstairs windows. Besides, there seem to be different types: gray, green, and red. The gray ones have no classes, the green ones have a stronger attribute, and the red ones have a rare class."

"Yes, and those with a horn ingested a meteorite which caused a mutation. We have 2 violet meteorites that grant the Hardness and Speed classes, and 1 white one that grants the zombie race, all without charge. Bea should keep them. Costas should have a class that supports us more."

"Also, keep in mind that raising the race for the first time takes about 4 hours and 10 minutes of continuous training. But each subsequent level is twice as difficult, so now it will take you 8 hours and 20 minutes. Classes are harder; they take 2 and a half days even at the first level."

"The process of absorbing the crystals was instant. We agreed that Ale and I would leave the mobiles while the girls covered us from the windows."

"When Ale and I left, we saw a group of 4 skeletons heading in our direction. Although we were startled, we quickly took care of them by throwing the white balls. After collecting the crystals, we looked for the car."

"We were lucky and found an old-looking car but in good condition on the opposite sidewalk of the house, and we had good visibility of it from the windows. Also, its rear windows were crank, which allowed us to close them slightly."

"I left my mobile, but when we returned, we found 7 green zombies rushing towards us, one with a horn. The girls hit 2 of them, and we hit one, but 2 of them caught up with each of us. I threw two fireballs at the two zombies that approached me, but one dodged it and tried to bite my arm. I reacted quickly and punched it with a fire-covered fist to drive it away, which managed to knock it down. The other zombie, although catching fire, approached me, and its claws dug into my arm. Carlota threw a fireball that finished it off."

"We gathered all the crystals and approached the house."

"Are you okay, Juanl?"

"Yes, thanks to Carlota. I don't have any marks left. We shouldn't be too confident; it varies a lot among different types of zombies."

"Ale laughed at me."

"Don't get too confident yourself; you're still a weakling."

A loud roar could be heard, followed by footsteps that seemed to crack the ground. Ale and I went upstairs while Dani and Costas returned to put the furniture back at the door.

"A muscular zombie, dark red in color and about two meters tall with a horn, was approaching quickly, followed by two horned red zombies and 3 pale red-skinned ones.
